“Everything I needed!”

Reviewed 22 Jun 2016

I stayed in Don's cottage for a month while on a clinical rotation for school. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay. The cottage had everything I needed for a month long stay and it was quite cozy to come home to after a long day at work. It was also in a perfect location...only a few minutes walk to wonderful downtown Bend. Don was incredibly welcoming and accommodating for my entire stay. I would definitely stay in the cottage and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Bend!

Response from the owner Glad you enjoyed your stay Amanda. While the Cottage is primarily used as a short term rental during the summer months and holiday season, it is well suited for long term stays. We have many whom have stayed 1-6 months and all say they would return. Thank you for mentioning that is just a few (5) minute walk to downtown. The gem of the property is that it is secluded and quiet, even while so close to downtown. Marline and I would love to have you return.

“Cozy cottage! Great location in the heart of Bend!”

Reviewed 25 Apr 2015

Excelent location in Dowtown Bend! Walk to everything or bring your bike, kayak or skis! All ementities in cottage were first class with comfy bed and clean linens and towels! Owners are friendly and attentive but respect your privacy! Great patio and garden with BBQ for entertaining your guest. We will be back to the 2nd Street Cottage!!

Response from the owner Thanks for the great review. I am glad you found the Cottage comfortable and the gardens enjoyable. This time of year the 150 Daffodils planted in the small bed by the BBQ give quite a show. And thank you for taking such nice care of the Cottage; always appreciated.

“Great Bend Cottage”

Reviewed 1 Dec 2014

Don has done a great job with the cottage. The cottage is well organized, efficient and very clean. We had everything that we needed for a week stay. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking. Bedroom was cozy and comfortable. The location is within walking distance of downtown Bend. Don was very helpful with recommendations. I would definitely stay again. November 2014

Response from the owner Thank you John for the nice review. Marline and I try to stock the kitchen and refrigerator with many commonly used spices and condiments. We want cottagers to walk in and have just about everything they need when preparing meals. And thank you also for mentioning the cleanliness of the Cottage. We strive for it to be the cleanest public lodging our guests have ever enjoyed. Hope to see you again soon.

“Best combination of amenities and location anyone can ask for”

Reviewed 1 Aug 2014

I have never stayed in a cottage that has as many amenities as the Second Street Cottage. Excellent internet, lots of storage for golf clubs, bicycles, etc., best stocked kitchen (second only to my own!), best stocked bathroom (Q-tips included!), even yoga mats. The location is perfect. Close to all major arteries, but in a quiet spot. An easy 5 minute (maximum) walk to the downtown area with many good restaurants. It's nice to have a garden in which to enjoy your morning coffee. The air conditioning works well, and we really needed it because our visit was during a heat wave. Our host, Don, was very helpful and knows the area like the back of his hand. I jokingly said the kitchen didn't stock Balsamic vinegar, and some magically appeared soon after. We will definitely come again.

Response from the owner Thank you for the terrific review. Marline and my goal is for our Cottagers' to walk in to a true home-away-from-home lodging experience. We do try to stock the Cottage with many of the commonly needed (desired) condiments, spices, and numerous other surprises. The travelers time in Bend is limited and we want our guests to spend their time doing the things they want rather than chasing down a bottle of Balsamic vinegar or a Northwest Forest Pass (we provide one as a courtesy). Just think, we save our guest 30 minutes finding a Pass vendor and the cost of the pass. While Julie was a guest, she mentioned she had never experienced such good high speed internet service in a vacation rental. She also mentioned that she needed and found a screw driver. It are these little things which add value and save traveler time for the fun stuff. We do look forward to your next visit.

“Charming & cozy”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2013

My husband and I recently stayed at this cottage and were pleasantly surprised by how close-in it is to downtown. We barely used our car during our stay. The cottage is fully equipped with everything one might need and even comes with some extras that you don't find in other rentals such as nice shampoo & conditioner and a full array of spices & condiments. The information binder that can be found on the coffee table is amazingly thorough and has loads of really useful information and tips for places to go, restaurants, museums, etc. The owner took a very personalized approach and called to make sure we had gotten into the cabin and that everything was to our satisfaction. He made himself available at anytime during our stay if anything was needed, which thankfully nothing was. We now have this lovely cottage in our favorites folder and will be back again soon!

Response from the owner Thank you for the detailed review. Marline and I strive to offer our Cottagers a "turn-key" guest experience. Spices and condiments are provided so one does not need to buy a myriad of items to prepare a meal or two and then leave them behind. And a play on the words "turn-key". As a host, I cannot rest until I know the guests have actually arrived and gotten into the Cottage. I cannot imagine a worse way to start a vacation than to not be able to access your lodging. Thank you for mentioning "information binder" usually found on the coffee table. We tried to put ourselves in the shoes of a guest and provide helpful information on everything from shopping, activities to how to reboot the TV cable if is needs. Think of the binder as a Concierge in a 3 ring format (and Don is available to expand on information as needed). Please do come back and tell your friends too.

“Best Rental Ever”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2013

The Second Street Cottage was simply fantastic. Every amenity you could ask for was available and if there was something that was not there Don offered get it for you. Everything was immaculately clean, everything in its place, everything in great condition, the place seemed brand new. While the cottage is within easy walking distance to downtown and great restaurants we cooked a meal and grilled a meal at the cottage because it was so inviting. We walked to downtown to visit a brewery afterwards. We slept well due to the quite location and bed/bedding. Don was very helpful with hikes and places to see in the area. Don also provided excellent feedback during the rental process, gave great directions and was always helpful. We will be back.

Response from the owner Thank you for the great review. Our promise to all of our Cottagers, what we call our guests, is that will strive to make your stay as wonderful as possible. If ever there is a problem, we will immediately take action. Marline and I want each Cottager to have a lodging "experience" full of fond memories and a desire to return.

“The perfect place to stay in Bend!”

Reviewed 26 Sep 2013

We loved everything about our stay in Bend. The 2nd Street Cottage was awesome... Clean, quiet, close to downtown and very relaxing! Don is an incredible host, making sure we were enjoying our time. He even surprised us with a bottle of champagne for our anniversary night! He gave us directions to great hikes and a wonderful drive, perhaps one of most memorable times of the trip. The patio is wonderful, wish we could have enjoyed that more. The only problem with our stay was that we didn't stay longer! We would love to return someday, maybe bring the kids next time!

“Great Cottage Retresat”

Reviewed 16 Sep 2013

Don and Marline's stunning guest cottage is fantastic. From the moment we walked through the private lane-way entrance, we were thrilled with this immaculate, beautifully decorated retreat. The owners attention to detail is clearly evident and everything we needed was close at hand. I appreciated the high-end finishes, fabulous bed linens and large master bath. The location couldn't be better. This cottage is close to downtown, the river, cycling paths and restaurants. We would love to come back.

Response from the owner Thank you for the wonderful review. We appreciate Cottagers' (what we call our guests) taking the time to write. We promise to work hard to continue to live up to these wonderful reviews and always provide an immaculate environment. And thank you for mentioning the oversize bathroom. It is the little details like extra space where it is appreciated which enhance the guest experience.

“Great accommodations”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2013

We had a wonderful stay. This cottage is in an ideal location - quick walk to downtown and the park. Quiet and immaculate as advertised. Most impressive was our host's attention to detail. We certainly hope this place is available when we return to Bend. My two children were very comfortable on the pull-out sofa. We could not have been happier. Thank you, Don.

“Perfect place for our annual Bend visit!”

Reviewed 16 Apr 2013

For several years we have been looking for the "just right" place to stay in Bend on our annual road trip. This year we found it -- at the Second Street Cottage. The Ptacniks truly have thought of everything to make the cottage feel like home the minute you walk in. Their grounds are lovely, too, and the location is great. And anything you may need, Don is ready to take care of it. Great place and a great host!

Response from the owner This is our first Flipkey review and it is wonderful and consistent with so many other guest comments. Always an honor and challenge to live up to our Cottagers' (what we call our guests) expectations. Marline and I strive to provide a "lodging experience"; not just a place to sleep. We recognize there are many lodging choices in Bend and appreciate our customers. The Cottage is centrally located in downtown Bend and an easy walk to both the downtown core and the Newport and Galveston Ave corridors.
