Description
This house was originally built in 1674 and mantains the character of the stone architecture of the villages of the ancient sheep trails of Castille. It is situated in Castilfrio de la Sierra, one of the best preserved villages of the Mesta, the sheep trading system that controlled the profitable wool export business since the Middle Ages. It has been tastefully restored using traditional elements and techniques and fitted with all the confort of modern amenities. Its decoration creates an enchanting exotic atmosphere, reminiscent of travels in Asia and the Middle East, that offers a contrast with the pristine natural surroundings. The views on the Castillian Highlands are beautiful and the wheat fields offer a symphony of changing colours throughout the year.
The house has a private courtyard that gives acces to the main building and an annex that used to be the blacksmith's workshop. The groundfloor has the living room,dining room and kitchen, a bathroom and steam room. The first and second floors have three bedrooms and a living room each, with an auxiliary kitchen in the top floor. It has a large children's room that can be fitted with additional beds.
The Village is located about 18 Km of the provincial capital, Soria. The province has remained one of Spains ecological treasures, very sparsely populated and with a great variety of landscapes from mountain lakes to river canyons , the largest misselto forests in the country and extensive wheat fileds in the lowlands. The traveller can chose between a great variety of trekking possibilities, including biking and horseback riding. The area is very rich in historical remains, beguining from the Iberian fortress of Numantia and other archeological sites like Teremancia to the medieval churches and castles that crisscross the whole region.The abundance of wild mushrooms and truffles, combined with excellent lamb and beef offers a rich cuisine .
The discovery of one of the least known regions of Spain is an extraordinary experience, and the calm and serene atmosphere of Castilfrio is an ideal destination for doing it.
