“Beautiful!”

Reviewed 4 Jun 2017

We are so happy to have found the Casa Betita to stay at during our visit to Taos. a large yard, all the amenities you need and beautiful. We would love to move here.

Response from the owner So happy you enjoyed my home. Hoping you will come again in the not too distant future. Best to you and yours, Melissa, Owner

“Fabulous House”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2015

Casa Betita is a wonderful, conveniently located home -- carefully thought-out with meticulous attention to detail. We were there with my teenage son and his friend -- both avid snowboarders. The mountain is about a twenty or thirty-minute drive away, and downtown Taos is only a five minute drive. Cid's Market -- the local equivalent of Whole Foods is close by, as is Love Apple, which was our favorite restaurant in town. The house itself is perfectly outfitted -- the kitchen is fully equipped for preparing meals. The art and decoration are tasteful and welcoming without being fussy. While it's only two bedrooms, they're very private and the house feels spacious. The bath in the master suite has a large soaking tub and opens to a patio and private yard with a garden. The beds are comfortable with plenty of extra bedding -- blankets, pillows, etc. There's a washer and dryer, a dishwasher -- everything you need for a wonderful vacation. In short, the house is ideal and the owner is very accommodating and prompt and thorough in her replies to emails. We're looking forward to returning to Taos and Casa Betita.

Response from the owner I am only now reading reviews and I so appreciate yours. It is extremely gratifying when guests notice and appreciate the details of my home and enjoy them. Thank You So Much Melissa

“Beautiful home in a beautiful place”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2014

The property is close to the center of Taos and is conveniently located, and yet feels very private and secluded. The home is surrounded by a large deck and the yard is nicely landscaped with two large and beautiful willow trees. The home itself is lovely, comfortable, and nicely decorated. It stays very cool in the summer even without air conditioner. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, and the is internet as well as washer/dryer and a hot tub. It is also very nice that the house is pet-friendly. We especially loved the large window seats in two of the rooms, and the french doors that open to the yard, providing fresh air and a nice breeze. Everything was very clean and well organized when we got there. There was information about local attractions. Overall, this was a great experience. We expect to be back.

“Fantastic home base”

Reviewed 11 Jan 2014

We really loved the house. First, I own a vacation rental myself in austin, TX. I would say our standards are high. The house is incredibly cozy, so darn warm. We loved the kiva fireplaces and radiant floor heating. Master bed and bath is just beautiful. Everything was very clean. Casa Betita is incredibly well appointed, Melissa has stocked everything in the kitchen. Very nice sheets and towels, loved our fuzzy bath robes. We are family of 5 with 2 teenagers. We'd initially looked for a place with a 3rd bedroom but the bunkees did work fine for our 2 boys. Everyone agreed we had to have a hot tub and we were very happy with that decision. Melissa has put a lot of thought into the house. The porches and yard are ideal for enjoying a quiet evening or time with loved ones. We would love to be back when everything is blooming. Communication was very easy and appreciated all of the suggestions Melissa shared on where to go. We ski TSV and it's less than 30 minutes away. If I were there in the summer, I would make the walk to Taos Plaza as suggested (too cold when we were there). Very short drive. We loved the Love apple (cash/check only) and had a fun NYE at the Taos Mesa Brewery. During Christmas/NYE we discovered that reservations were a must every night. That was not our experience last year when we stayed a week before Christmas. Heads up if you are traveling during a busy time. El Meze smelled great but we couldn't get in.

“Excellent place to stay in Taos!”

Loved Casa Betita! Wonderful home away from home; Melissa was a wealth of information about attractions, restaurants, cultural locations and shopping options. Her home is lovely; very happy that she's chosen to share it with us! Melissa also made the process of renting and finding the location easy for us. Great beds and linens, fantastic kitchen, and having two baths made our stay perfect. The home is close to town, restaurants and roads to get you wherever desires lead. Casa Betita has a homey feel with great area artwork and sculpture, comfortable lounging areas, and a hot tub to view the stars. It was great to have the use of laundry facilities...helped keep me to one carry-on bag! Love that! The high road from Santa Fe to Taos is a must-see, with a stop in Chimayo. The Oje Caliente Spa is another place to visit, soak in the mineral waters and stare at the landscape. A stop at the bridge over the Rio Grande, and a visit to Solaria Earthship were fun and educational! the Taos Pueblo is truly special. In awe of the beauty, the history and the people. P When you visit, plan to spend some time there... To see spectacular desert scenery, go to abiquiu. Do the loop from Taos south, to abiquiu and back, highway 84 (I think). Big skies and fantastic rock formations as well as adobe churches, Georgia O'Keeffe's home and an excellent café. Restaurants in Taos are fantastic as are the majority of galleries. Fell in love with the area...

“A good choice”

My wife and I like Taos and have been twice. Casa Betita is pretty, fitted very nicely. The yard is fenced in with lots of shaded porch. She has anything you could want or need in the house, especially the kitchen. The art is a little strange, but that is OK. It is couched in next to a few very small apartments behind the smallest catholic church I have ever seen. We felt safe and secure. Overall, you will be able to relax and unwind. I recommend Casa Betita.

Response from the owner Laughing that you think the art is strange. The house has art from noted Southwestern artists most of them local, most of them award-winning, including Carole LaRoche, Taos Pueblo sculptor John Suazos, Santa Clara Pueblo Sculptor Roxanne Swentzel - Marcia Oliver and Amy Cordova, Painters, Pattie Traynor, Doug Yeager, Geraint Smith, Robbie Steinbach, Margaret Randall Photographers among others. Also gorgeous Acoma Pots and vintage Navajo Rugs. All in the eyes of the beholder - art is.

“A gorgeous home in Taos”

Casa Betita is a jewel, wonderfully located near everything in Taos, lovingly restored and decorated and extremely comfortable. You'll find everything you need for a luxurious and peaceful stay. Morning coffee or evening wine on the loggia is delightful, the kitchen is completely outfitted and the bedrooms are wonderful. I can't recommend highly enough.

“Extraordinary !!!”

My husband and I stayed a month at this amazing property. The moment one drives thru the gate, you can feel the history. This home is home. From the portal, to the kivas,to the bancos, to the art-history plus comfort. A great selection of books-local history, fiction, non-fiction.A very good DVD selection for all tastes and ages. The photos do not do the house justice.Everything was spotless. We never lacked for anything-cozy robes to wear out to the hot tub and everything from paper goods to laundry soap to a welcoming bottle of local wine. An endless supply of firewood-ready to burn in the wonderful kiva fireplaces. Candles to be lit for a romantic evening. Highlights-Drinking wine on the portal, watching the amazing clouds come and go, the wind in the willow, experiencing snow, rain, and sun, watching spring arrive-the apple tree blossoming, the willow leaves appearing- tulips and daffys. Enjoyed the swing, as did our guests we had one night. There were 9 of us-on the portal and later around the kitchen table. Seating and dishes for everyone. There was always someone at the other end of the phone if we needed assistance. There is a wonderful photo documentation of the restoration of this home and a list of restaurants and things to do. (We tried almost all- never disappointed) Some additions to that list- walk to town-and come to know the locals. Ride mountain bikes (rent at Gearing Up Bicycle shop- wonderful staff) on the West Rim trail. Do not miss hiking into the Gorge in the Wild Rivers Park, north of Questa. Also, eating at Rancho de Taos Grill in Rancho de Taos. They do not have a liquor license-so, go to the Taos Inn, sit on the patio and people watch while having your drinks, then to Rancho de Taos. Do not miss the biscuits at the Taos Diner. Do not miss Red Cat Melissiana- a funky, wonderful shop of things found. In other words- do not miss this extraordinary opportunity to stay in an historic adobe home in the heart of Taos.

This is a darling house on the edge of Toas not 8 minutes away from the main square. It is very private with a spacious courtyard made from coyote fencing. This house is stocked with everything that you could desire to stay a week. The microwave went bad while we were there and a new one was there a few hrs later. beautiful house. Would stay there again! Of course skiing at Toas Vally is always the best.

“Not to exaggerate, but Changed Our Lives!”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2012

We spent a week at Casa Betita at the end of august. We live in Dallas, and it was one of the hottest summers of all time. We needed a getaway badly. I still remember driving up for the first time. We had some trouble locating it; it is very hidden away. The directions online didn't match up to what our GPS was saying. When we finally paid closer attention to the online directions, we found it. I still remember driving up for the first time. We were astonished. I'd read about the big willow trees, but they are truly breathtaking. With the cooler temps that we hadn't experienced in months, it added up to something truly magical. We closed the gate, and let our 2 little pups explore the enclosed yard while we unloaded. Our first night was great, complete with coyote howls. It felt like we'd stepped out of time. We did yoga and read on the portales, we ate in most of the time using the well-furnished kitchen. We enjoyed dining outdoors, and did so at almost every meal. We slept well each night in the comfy bed, and marveled at the tiny details that had been so lovingly and carefully created. I am an interior designer, and my husband is an artist - so we noticed and appreciated all the small touches. Back at home, I hunted down some favorite items, like the "honey bee" steak knives and the special soaps used in the home. As far as changing our lives, it really has. Our week at Casa Betita was the most relaxing vacation we'd ever enjoyed, including a week on Maui last year. During our drive home, we began to discuss how to make our everyday lives more like this week had been, and we got serious. The desire to keep the feeling we'd enjoyed at Casa Betita never faded, and we are currently in the middle of making major life changes to accomplish that - including a move to a lovely house on a hill west of austin in our attempt to capture the magic of Casa Betita for ourselves. Be aware - a stay at Casa Betita might change your life too!

Response from the owner I just say this review and it made me cry. Good cry but cry never the less. I am sitting here in my home at the moment feeling as though I need to make some changes and your review just reminded me to look around at what I've created and enjoy it. Thank YOU! AND I am so happy that you had the experience you did. It is what I'd imagined for others. Now I should try and experience it myself.
