“Definitely a "feel-good" experience - to be repeated in future”

Reviewed 23 Nov 2013

We had the most wonderful time during our stay at Saffron Villa. Accommodation was excellent - we slept like babies with a sea-breeze cooling us - waking up to catch an early morning swim a couple of steps from our patio. Always a nice hot shower in neat and tidy bathrooms. The friendly staff had us feeling extremely pampered and spoil't. With the villa located on the beach, we could settle for just enjoying the tranquil scene and wonderful meals, early morning and sunset swims, walks on the beach and simply just relaxing, but the staff organized some nice excursions for us. So... all in all a very peaceful and special vacation amongst friendly locals. The best part - everything!

“Fantastic!”

We simply enjoyed every day spent at Saffron Beach Villa. You can't miss because the location is perfect and dream like and the people helping you during your stay very kind, efficient and friendly. We just appreciated moment by moment. Every morning looking straight out to the beach and the sea from the master bedroom, I could at last unwind and relax - just what I needed. It's a photographer's dream and my daughters and I would be up early taking sunrise shots of all kinds of interesting sea/sky vistas and cloud formations, the seaweed collecting local ladies, beautiful birds who come to the shallows to specifically pose for you. Then there were the sunsets to enjoy with a drink. Actually, you don't want to go anywhere else and after only a few days we just had to admit there was nowhere like our new home. Meals out on the veranda watching the beach and sea...reading, dreaming whatever, you are right there on the beach and yet somehow a little tucked out of sight yourself and private. Next door to Crazy's there is always somewhere to go for a drink or to chat if you feel like company. The villa has a lived in feel which is relaxing because you are literally on the beach, so its difficult to keep pristine yourself - just let all of that go and enjoy! The weather in October was very nice as well and we even had the very occasional spot of rain which was refreshing and made for yet another array of fascinating cloud formations and fantastic sunsets. Staying there off season made this lovely experience more affordable. Thanks everyone who helped us have this special family time - I am still looking through my literally thousands of photos, reminiscing and wanting to return! :)

"white powdery sands pray waits its blue warm groom to come and touch its shores one more time, and faithful it is" My family and I stayed in Saffron Villa from the 28th of august till the 2nd of Sept 2012. Our stay was amazing after exploring all the coasts of Zanzibar. The villa is practical and romantic, its convenient and homey. Our Hosts (owners and staff) were amazing people. I would for sure visit them again .. “Spectacular beach front!”

Saffron Villa is right on the beach, no strolling through town or alleys to get the beach...just roll out of bed and wander 20 feet and there you are...your own private beach front! The Villa is large, with 2 large comfy beds and gorgeous bathrooms. Lovely sitting areas inside and out with a kitchen as well if you feel the desire to cook...but no need as Crazy Mzungo's bar is right next door for food and bevies! Lovely staff, great food and again right on the beach. The place is decorated beautifully, really the perfect place to chill while enjoying the vibe of Zanzibar. The staff are very helpful and have some great suggestions for activities while on the island. We had a lovely relaxing time here, would highly recommend it for your next adventure to Zanibar!

“An idyllic setting, a feast for all the senses, a true gem in Za”

Saffron Beach Villa is a real gem on the East Coast of Zanzibar. It was my first time on the island, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but staying in this beautiful villa certainly played a big role in making my short holiday an unforgettable experience. It was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated in authentic local style, with awesome views of the ocean and the beach, which was just a few steps away. The staff - Gerard, Abede the chef, Ana and Muhu - were at all times very friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. The villa offers enough privacy to chill and relax on one's own, but I also spent much time at the very charming Crazy Mzungo's beach lounge next door. Of course I could not resist abede's delectable dishes! My primary aim was to unwind and relax, and in this regard, Saffron Beach Villa met all my expectations. I couldn't have asked for more and was very reluctant to leave. I would recommend it wholeheartedly to any of my friends and acquaintances wanting to visit Zanzibar. A huge asante sana to Matt and Michelle and all the staff - I will most definitely be back!!

“A tranquil, gastronomic experienced laced with the benefits of c”

My experience of Saffron Beach Villa (SBV) was enhanced by the stupendous service that I received from the hosts Matt (Boss Kazi, aka the Crazy Muzungo), Mich (Mama Michi) & the amazingly dedicated staff of SBV and Crazy Muzungo's - Gerard (Mr G is a breathe of fresh air and has the best can do attitude ever!), Anna (with a caring touch to her housekeeping duties and provider of the tastiest honey), Habedi (Chef humble supremo who tantalized my culinary buds at every meal time) and Moohoe (delivering service at all hours with the most radiant smile). Sbv is modern and comfortable with uninterrupted views of beach and sea. I was priviledged to have seen a few breathtaking scenes at full moon and many starry starry nights. Its location in Bwejuu on the East Coast means that it has the added advantage of being away from mass tourism and the commercial element, whilst at the same time it is situated next to Crazy Muzungo's Bar & Restaurant (also a Vanilla arches enterprise) which offers a delectable array of fresh, creative dishes (some of the best food I have ever eaten (!!!) but unpretentious and very affordable) and seasonal entertainment on this strip. A supermarket in close proximity allows for provisions and other resorts can be reached on foot or by prearranged transport should you wish to experience other settings on the Island. What I liked about SBV was that I had tranquility and comfort together with the exposure to the humble culture of the native islanders, and I could socialize with like minded people when the need arose.

Response from the owner Hi! Thank you very much for the review! Having the "C" right on your doorstep makes all the difference - builds up the apetite, releases the stress of the daily grind and city life! We think its the plenty of fresh air, long walks on the beach and Abedi's organic garden herbs that got you glowing!! We look forward to your return in the near future! PS- the 2012 seasonal menu has been launched!! Thanks for all the tips!!! Management Saffron Beach Villa

“Great beach , food and chilled relaxation”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2011

Great location and tasty local food ,ice cold beer. prices are comparable to Sa , hence good for being in paradise. We were checked on daily by David to ensure all was good, would have liked access to bicycles (which are popular on the beach) in order to venture a little further than the bar. As it was our first trip to Zanzibar we wernt sure how to make the most of the time we had within budget ,felt that tours and excursions were pricy, but as we will be back we'll work on that.

Response from the owner Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate you taking the time to do so! It was a great pleasure to have you as our very first guests in Saffron Beach Villa! It is a stunning Villa in a beautiful location and we hope that you will return in the near future. With regards to the comments on activities, we are investigating more organic and Direct Impact Tourism offers that eliminate the costs of agents'commission and give more to the communities involved. It is possible to hire Bicycles, it just depends on our guests level of comfort and conditions on the day. We have alo been exploring more affordable Safaris close to Zanzibar to offer guests more value for money. Best Wishes Team Vanilla
