“Perfect for our needs”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2012

A great location just outside of the historical plazas turned out to be one of the best bargains as well as it's fun neighborhood. This home is big, yet homey at the same time. There was plenty of room for the 6 of us with an extra room had we invited company for the night. Our host James gave us the tour of his fully furnished home along with the number of keys needed and also had phones for our use other than the free international phone in the house itself. We visited the historical sites as well as the artisian towns nearby. We enjoyed coming back to the more quiet area of this large city to visit, cook in or go out to the many great restaurants all within walking distance from the house. I highly recommend this home for groups of people traveling together. It was a great value as well considering the price being paid by 3 couples! A wonderful stay in a fun city. Thank you James for all of the thoughtful amenities that are provided. Jennifer and the gang!

“Our home away from home”

Reviewed 22 Feb 2011

Last Christmas, my wife and I wanted to travel to Mexico and stay in Guadalajara, but this time we did not want to be in a tourist area acting like tourists, instead we wanted to blend with the locals, doing and enjoying the things that locals do, and at the same time keeping the comfort, freedom, and privacy that we enjoy at home. For this reasons we were attracted to "Casa Dickinson" which offered the best of both worlds. When we arrived at Casa Dickinson around 5:00 in the morning, Jim, the owner, was waiting for us with a table full of fresh fruits, cheeses, hot coffee and an assortment of pastries. After a short conversation getting acquainted with each other, he lead us to our room which was the Master Bedroom upstair. This room was amazing. We had a king size bed with warm and colorful bedding, radio/cd player, our own bathroom full of all the toiletries for men and women that you can think of, hairdryer, full length mirror, and a ceiling fan. We had our own phone with unlimited calls for local calls, or calls to the U.S, cable television, and a balcony with tables and chairs where we could relax, sip some wine and do some reading and still enjoy the sun and the view down the avenue. Jim makes sure that your belongings are safe and secured. He will have your room clean and your bed done as soon as the opportunity arises and he will have the coffee pot ready to brew at a pre-arranged time every morning. Casa Dickinson is located in a quiet residential area, but there are restaurants, bookstores, supermarkets, malls, and parks available within walking distance or a short taxi ride if you want to explore the area. My wife and I highly recommend Casa Dickinson.

Response from the owner It was a wonderful time to be here in Guadalajara! I'm sorry that some family members were a bit afraid from all of the bad press this last year has bestowed on this beautiful country, but you can now let them know that it is safe here in the center of the country. Look forward to another visit soon!

“The best!!!”

James provides a lovely home, wonderful care following surgery and absolutely the best food ever as an extra added attraction. I felt very at home and very well taken care of. I will never stay anywhere else in Guadalajara. It's simply the best!!

“Home away From Home”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2010

This was my second stay at the Dickinson Guest House. I was looking for a place where I would not feel intimidated by not speaking the language of the land, and since James is an american, this worked out very well for me. I enjoyed staying in a place that felt like home, since this is in fact James' home. He has everything there that you could need, and if he doesn't have it, he will try to get it for you. Free breakfast, and full use of the kitchen if you feel like staying in and cooking your own meals. Free phone to the states, and free wireless internet access were also big bonuses. Very nice surroundings in a peaceful and lovely neighborhood, but very close to shops and a short taxi ride to the city and site seeing. I will definitely visit again. Thanks, James, for your hospitality.

“Quiet retreat, helpful host, fantastic city”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2010

I was lucky enough to spend 17 days at the Casa Dickinson in October of 2008. I traveled to Guadalajara for plastic surgery and found this guest house to be the perfect place to relax and recuperate. James, my host, was so considerate of my needs - taking me to the clinic and follow up appointments, sharing his lovely home so graciously, making sure I felt pampered at all times. The guest services and luxurious amenities are comparable to the best hotels, yet the ambiance is casual enough so that you immediately feel at home. The neighborhood is perfect for a quiet getaway. There is a beautiful rose garden with a walking path at the end of the block where I exercised daily. The nearby supermarket is within walking distance, so very convenient. This was my first trip to Guadalajara, I definitely have plans to return, and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

“Great house, great host, great location”

Reviewed 13 Aug 2010

First time to stay in a B&B; with so much freedom. The house is beautiful but not so precious where a guest feels constrained and uncomfortable with it. The location is great - the house is in a tree-lined avenue, it's a short walk to a large center with a great choice of shops and restaurants, yet it's only a short walk to the main road and public transport to the city center. Breakfast choices were provided, I could come and go at leisure with my own key, and in all, it was a great way to establish a warm friendship with James, the host. Recommend? Well, I am planning on moving to Guadalajara early in 2011, thanks to my initial impressions.

“Home away from home”

Reviewed 14 May 2010

I've always wanted to visit Guadalajara, but I don't like the big impersonal hotels. A friend told me about Mr. Dickinson's guest house. I found it a very warm and friendly place to stay. He was able to get a friend of his to give me a tour of Old Guadalajara. The person knew the city and it's history well. The rest of the week I was able to take a short taxi ride to the places I wanted to return to and spend more time. The beds were North American style bed's, clean and comfortable. I had free phone and computer access. a market was close so I could pick up what I wanted to cook for myself (when I did not want to eat out) in a well appointed kitchen. The only down side was no room service or a bartender to serve the guest.

“Great find in perfect location”

Reviewed 7 May 2010

I have meant to write a review but got busy. This was a great experience from beginning to end! A great host and warm welcome into what would become home to a small group of 6 business travelers from all over. The house was much bigger than it appears and was all set up for the business traveler with high speed wi-fi and free phone service in bedrooms. Full kitchen with all one would need to cook with and lots and lots of restaurants of all types within walking distance. Close to downtown, yet far enough away for a quiets night sleep. Great beds. It includes a washer and dryer as well as maid and garden service. A great value indeed. I would enjoy it for a family as well going on a nice vacation. James is very helpful with directions and points of interest on days we did not have to work. Thanks James! Sorry for the late response. Strya Blighton

“Very comfortable”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2010

Very nice host. The home is nicely decorated and spacious, bed was comfortable. The home is in a nice neighborhood. This is definitely our first choice for a stay in Guadalajara. What we like the most is being able to get up at any time, not having set times for breakfast. What I liked least was the short time we stayed, wish we could've stayed longer.
