“Unforgettable Trip in Paradise”

Reviewed 15 Sep 2012

My wife and I couldn't have asked for a better stay in Vieques. Both the house and the island were amazing! The house was fantastic! It is located right in the heart of everything; dining, shopping, and world class beaches. We absolutely loved the tropical outdoor shower. The house looked like it was decorated by a professional. You can tell that the owners take great pride in the house and it shows. The island is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We walked on the beach for two miles and didn't see one person but amazingly enough saw five wild horses running together on the beach. We have been to beachs all over the world but have never seen anything quite like this. We came on the trip with no expectations but can honestly we had the trip of a lifetime!

“Great Caribbean Vacation House!”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2012

John and Karen have a great house on a beautiful secluded island. The house is equipped with all the amenities you need for a great beach vacation. The car is great to get around to all the different beaches Vieques has to offer and you can walk to a number of restaurants in 5 minutes. Fair warning- once you get there you may not want to leave!

Response from the owner Mr. Samolis --thanks, and glad you enjoyed your stay. You were wise to get your rental car reserved and delivered to the house --glad we could help on that.

“Repeat Visitor to Casa Orquidea”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2012

I have enjoyed Vieques and, the Plunkets home so much over the years that I have vacationed there four times. If you're looking for a Caribbean vacation with beautiful beaches, peace and quite, and a native local environment this is the place for you. The Plunkets go above and beyond to prepare you with all the information you may need on your vacation. Their home is everything you would desire and offers you the privacy that's hard to find in your typical Caribbean get away. I would definitely recommend Casa Orquidea to friends and family. I can't wait to plan my next trip to this amazing place and home.

“Comfortable, homey, perfect location”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2012

Vieques, particularly the town of Esperanza, is a great mix of relaxation and adventure. This house matches that type of vacation. While it's a stone's throw from bars and restaurants, it was nice and quiet. I would recommend this place to anybody. We did a lot of exploring on the island, and we were all in agreement that the house's location couldn't be any better. There was never a question of what we were going to do next because we were within walking distance of the town and the beach. Most of the companies offering excursions meet nearby. There was more than enough room for four people and our ample luggage. As another review stated, the house is bigger than the pictures let on. There is a seating area on the front porch and the back patio, which was our favorite part. The bathrooms were especially nice, as they are very spacious and beautifully decorated. We found amenities like bandages, Q-tips, etc. easily. There were more than enough towels, and the washer and dryer meant that we never had to deal with sandy or stinky beach bags. We had no issues with the showers or air conditioning. Basically, all of the creature comforts were tip-top. We used the kayak and boogie boards, too! The Plunkets were helpful and responsive both before and during the trip. One could not ask for a friendlier person to deal with than Karen. Our group included the opposite ends of the traveling spectrum: a business traveler used to high-end accommodations and an NGO employee used to sleeping with mosquito nets in the jungle. Everybody loved it.

“A chance to live like the locals... only better”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2011

We had a wonderful stay in the Plunket's house (4 adults, 3 teenagers). Nice and comfortable with a beautiful backyard patio and garden that we enjoyed hanging out in. Great location in a residential neighborhood -- just a short walk up the block to the seaside town of Esperanza with good restaurants and bars and local color (teenagers loved that). House was well-equipped for island life and the Plunkets were great about providing advice on what to do & see, and easy to communicate with. A couple of people in our group would have preferred a pool and fitness center resort-type vacation so they grumbled a bit. But if you're a little adventurous and love the beach, you'll have a good time. Vieques is still relatively unspoiled (altho just a matter of time before big development kicks in) so this is a great way to taste what it would be like to live there island-style and experience the natural beauty while it's still there.

“Great Weekend”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2011

John and Karen's place in Esperanza is perfectly located near all of the great beaches, local bars and restaurants which makes their house a great place to stay when visiting the island of Vieques. The house was adequately equiped with everything we needed to spend our mini-vacation in this island paradise. I would highly recomend anyone to stay in Casa Orquidea for their trip, you will leave wanting to come back!

“Fabulous local experience”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2011

We enjoyed staying in veiques and found the Plunkett home to be delightful. We would refer others to this house and also understand why they have invested in such an interesting spot. Some limited ideas are to stock the home with some more Dvd's for nighttime activities (we watched all of their movies) --it was wonderful and we may go back somtime. A treat for our family of five (12/15 and 17 yr olds, our 80 year old mother and Faith and Erich Schwartz. All and all a treat. We loved the rooster and fruit trees out back--cell service and internet conntections weak but may that is okay- Cheers, Faith
