Description from owner
Description
On the shores of lake Petén Itzá, sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms, two with ensuite, the other two share a bath. Ideal for families and friends. Private deck and beach, free Wi-Fi.
We are 40 minutes from Tikal and Flores, on the North shore of the lake.
This is a waterfront property, with 30 meters of private beach over Lake Petén Itzá. There is a small thatched house with 2 bedrooms sharing one bathroom, a kitchen and pantry, and a separate unit with a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, summer kitchen and panoramic terrace. We (Pauline from France and Victor from Guatemala) generally live there, so if you rent a room we will be there too. If you rent the whole property while we are traveling, there will be a gardener and a maid coming to clean and upkeep the property.
This part of Lake Petén Itzá is still wide and quiet, at night you will hear hawling monkeys and frogs, you can fish, hike in the jungle, etc. We also have a chicken coop, a couple of turkeys, ducks and geese on the property. They will be there even if we are not but the handyman will feed them, so no work is required on your side. Just know they are there.
ROOM 1:
Big room, about 20sqm 220sqft, plus en-suite bathroom with shower. This room has A/C. One queen size bed (Guatemalan queen size is a little smaller than US queen size, at 160cm), bedside tables and lots of space to store your things, desk, a dozen plugs to charge your laptops and phones.
The bathroom has a walk-in closet, and the shower has hot water via an electric system, meaning the water is hot but not boiling hot.
This room has huge 8 sqm French door that offers a gorgeous view over the lake. This is also the room with the most privacy of the property.
ROOM 2:
150sqft This room has A/C. One queen size bed (Guatemalan queen size is a little smaller than US queen size, at 160cm), bedside tables and lots of space to store your things, desk, a dozen plugs to charge your laptops and phone. Has its own private resting hammock and sofa area
Room3
This is a medium room, about 12 sqm, 125 sqft, with a big wardrobe, two single beds and a bedside table. I has a partial lake view and you see the garden as well. The room has no A/C, we can provide a fan if nights are hot. All the windows are closed by mosquito nets.
It is a simple, clean room with a couple of plugs too if you need to charge things.
The room shares a bathroom with room 4, although it is quite unlikely that we would rent both room to different travelers, so you would either share it with your family, or have it to yourself.
The bathroom has an electric shower, meaning the water is hot but not super hot. Compared to most Guatemalan showers it is above average, but quite simple by Western standards.
ROOM 4:
This is a small room, about 8sqm, 80sqft, with a double bed that is 140cm wide, a desk and a couple of bedside tables. It has no view, because its two windows that are mosquito nets are over the corridor that leads to room 2, so you can see partially the lake and garden but through that double mosquito net from the room’s windows and the corridor.
It has weaved carpets on the ceiling to keep it fresh and is the freshest room of all, when you don’t count the A/C in room 1. It has a couple of plugs for your things, and you can store your belonging in the desk’s drawers but it does not have a formal wardrobe.
Room 4 shares a bathroom with room 3, see above for description.
KITCHEN:
gas oven and hob, big fridge and chest freezer, open air kitchen on the roof of room 1 that you can use to barbecue and eat outside.
PANORAMIC TERRACE:
We have a nice panoramic terrace overlooking the lake, ideal to rest, there is a hammock, a bean bag, and a table big enough to sit 12 people.
BEACH AND DECK:
The private beach is 30 meters wide, it has a deck with a couple of hammocks, and the water is generally crystal clear, it gets a bit muddy on the rainy days. The best sunsets are from October to February. The lake is around 30 degrees/80F year round so you can swim at any time.
GETTING THERE / AMENITIES
It is better if you have your own vehicle, otherwise by public bus, there are 4 buses a day from Flores to San Pedro, or you can take a microbus hourly from Flores to San José, 6 miles away, and hire a tuktuk from there. We can book you tours to Tikal as well.
Our village is small and you will find basic shops. The nearest supermarket where you will find more choice is 20 miles/30km away. We recommend you bring your food on arrival if you like to cook.
INTERNET
We have a wifi USB dongle that works in a limited radius but you can take it to any room.
Getting around
The easiest way for you to come is with your own vehicle. Sometimes during the rainy months the road is pretty bad, and a small 4WD is better, although the road usually gets fixed quickly and normal cars can use it 99% of the year.
