Description

LOCATION: This private rural retreat is located in the high desert forest of northern New Mexico. The land is really incredible here. The town (village is more like it), consists of about 150 residents, a general store, a post office, and a fire department. The property itself is on 20 acres. A sense of serenity is pervasive in the natural surrounding landscape, and you will notice the tensions from daily life dissolve.

The three miles of dirt roads to the retreat are passable year-round and give the feeling that you are "out there". A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the snow and in the springtime mud. If you'd like some off-site adventure, Taos is 40 minutes away, and Santa Fe is about an hour and a half. The Ski Valley is one-hour door to door, and Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is less than 30 minutes. You can visit ancient Indian cliff dwellings, hike in the mountains or on the mesa, and river-raft in the Rio Grande Gorge.

ACCOMMODATIONS: This beautiful abode is set in an old-growth juniper and piñon pine forest. We call this house "The Q". It is a 1300 sf adobe house with a full bath and kitchen. This house sleeps 4+. It has an open floor plan with a sleeping alcove. (There are no actual bedrooms.) Not far away is the Stick Casita. (Casita means "little house"). It has one bedroom with 2 twin beds and a twin bed in the living room. There is a full bathroom in this casita. There is 100 mbps fiberoptic WiFi, a flatscreen TV & DVD player, (no cable/satellite), a stereo system, and some great books and games. Additionally, we can recommend an incredible cook, as well as other services such as massage, music, and yoga on site.

So whether or not you want local art, active adventure, indigenous culture, or a relaxing soak, every evening you will find yourself in the peaceful quietude of the surrounding forest and its natural inhabitants. This is an excellent getaway for couples, small families, close friends, or harried individuals in search of peace.

Getting around

The roads are passable year-round, but a 4WD or AWD is highly recommended in snow and springtime mud, otherwise you should bring chains.

There's a wonderful caretaker on-site. He will welcome you and give you a brief orientation upon arrival. He lives across the road, so if you need anything, he is there. And feel free to pick his brain, (or mine), for tons of stuff to do in this amazing area!
