Additional Location Information

Our guest house is situated in a village called Fundu Moldovei, in Suceava county, in the Oriental Carpathians Mountains, on the Moldova river valley.
The altitude in the village varies between 800 - 1100m. A few kilometers away are the Rarau Massif - 1651m and Giumalau Mountain- 1857m - very popular hiking spots.
The locality is situated in the North of Romania, in Bucovina region, at about 50km from the border with Ukraine (nearest border crossing at Siret - 100km) and the entrance in the village is done through a porch, the name of the village is skillfully sculpted in wood. Bucovina is most famous for the wonderful painted Monasteries - all part of the World Heritage Sites. The name 'Bucovina' came into official use in 1775 when the region was annexed to the Habsburg Empire and it was ruled by the Austrians until 1918.
The nearest town is Campulung Moldovenesc at around 12km. Suceava, the county capital is 70km away. Travelling from Bucharest is possible by train - overnight travel in sleeping cars - around 8-9 hours. We can organize transport from the main airports - Bucharest, Bacau (flights from London Luton with Blue Air or Cluj and Targu Mures (flights from London Luton with Wizzair) and transfers from the nearby railway stations: Campulung Moldovenesc (12 min) or Pojorata (5 min). The access by car is done on the E85 road and the Pojorata village you turn right if you come from Campulung Moldovenesc or left if you come from Vatra Dornei.

The area is very safe and is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Fundu Moldovei is one of the few places where old customs are still kept alive. The locals are proud mountain people who wear traditional costumes when they go to church and other special events. Their life is simple and complex at the same time: people still follow strict rules of behaviour and maintain ancient traditions, but modern life brings changes even to the remotest villages. A land harmoniously inhabited by various nationalities, Bucovina has withstood the most radical transformations of time and fashion, and has preserved its unforgettable way of life.
