Additional Location Information

Casa Orquidea is one block from the Caribbean on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico --no passport needed, since this is part of the United States!

You'll discover more than a dozen magnificent unspoiled beaches on Vieques, many in the 18,000 acre U.S. National Wildlife Refuge which contains several ecologically distinct habitats including beaches, coastal lagoons, mangrove wetlands, and sub-tropical dry forest.

The marine environment surrounding the refuge contains coral reefs and sea grass beds. The refuge and its surrounding waters are home to at least two plants and eight animals on the Federal endangered species list including the West Indian manatee, the Brown Pelican, and four species of sea turtles.

In addition to its ecological value, the refuge contains important resources of archeological and historic significance, and legacies of the prehistoric TaĆno culture and Spanish-American sugar cane era.
