“Excellent location, nice balcony, funky layout”

We were initially a bit worried that we might arrive in Austria to find no apartment---there were no reviews, the response rate here on Holiday Lettings was 34%, and the owner asked for a direct bank transfer of the full amount up front (not via the Holiday Lettings website)---but she did agree to let us pay cash on arrival, so that made us feel it was more likely really there. Rest assured, the apartment is there and in an ideal location---it seems the oweners rent often, but must not do much via this website. Personally, I think they'd have far more traffic if they set up the ability to pay via Holiday Lettings---though now that WE know it is legit, we'll be willing to send a bank transfer ahead of time for future stays (we do hope to go back). Getting ahold of the owner was also a bit diffucult--that response rate was indicative of our experience. In the end we called the phone number in the listing and then used WhatsApp to finalize details. I suggest this to anyone interested in booking this one. The apartment is in a gret location right in the heart of town. That aspect could not be better. That is THE reason to book here. We were told that there is parking for the building that is "first come first served" Along the side of the building are about 6 spaces but all but one were blocked off with locked chains (not being used at all, just blocked off). In front of the building are signs that say the parking is for building inhabitants--but it was not clear if that meant those staying in the apartments or those visiting the bussiness on that side. Many of those spaces were blocked by a chain suspended between a poles on tires (so that could be moved). We moved the chain and chanced parking there, leaving a bussiness card from the apartment in the dash board, and had no issues--but were never sure of where we were meant to park. Better instrutions for that would be a really helpful addition to the apartment. The "nearby public parking" was all completely full and the garage runs 16 euros per day if you can get a space. Getting in was easy, with a lock box on the side of the building---so no need to coordinate an arrival time and second guess traffic, which was very nice. The apartment itself has both pros and cons: PROS: -Fabulous balcony--bigger than we though based on the photo here. Stays shaded all day, nice views of the mountain, table to eat on and several chairs---we enjoyed it so much we kept getting take-out for meals and just eating there. -large living room with comfortable sofa and a nice selection of DVDs to watch (came in handy in a heavy rain) -kitchen was well stocked and I think you could actaully make a fair amount in it if you wanted to (but it is TINY---seriously teeny tiny---you cannot have more than one person in it ever). CONS: -main bathroom can only be accessed via the smaller/kids bedroom (with two single beds). If you had small kids in bed early, you'd have to walk through their room to shower/do laundry/etc. Even with just two adults and a teen that was awkward. -smaller bathroom (off the living room) is ONLY a toilet. Nowhere to wash hands---so you either have to cut through the bedroom to get to the bigger bathroom to wash up, or wash in the kitchen. -beds were OK as far as comfort---fine for a couple of nights but not much more.
