Description from the owner

The Mermaid's Muse is located on a cliff overlooking the ocean. Your bedroom has an antique Chinese "opium den" bed frame with the best King size pillow top mattress money can buy. We are located down a quiet, one lane, short road, approximately 6 blocks from the main business street of Brookings. This is a famous vacation spot for hikers or people who simply want to drive into state parks to see the giant red wood trees. It is equally attractive to folks who enjoy walking along empty beaches, which feel right out of the Garden of Eden! Fresh salmon from the local rivers and ocean is available many months of the year.

      Peaceful, Beautiful, & Comfortable

Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed with John and Nancy for four nights. This was our first private bookin experience, and we had no preconceived expectations. Our stay was wonderful. We could not have asked for more gracious and friendly hosts. John and Nancy are very personable and interesting people. They welcomed and treated us much like family. We were greeted every morning cheerfully with many different breakfast options and most importantly for us, delicious coffee.

Our room was private, favored a beautiful view of the ocean with its rugged shoreline, and was appointed with an extremely comfortable bed. We were provided a private full bathroom and use of a soothing hot tub with spectacular views of the ocean. After many long walks through nearby state parks and along Oregon beaches, the hot tub was a wonderful luxury.

We enjoyed getting to know John and Nancy who were willing to share much of their knowledge of the state parks, shorelines, local history as well as their experiences living in the area. We enjoyed our full stay thoroughly. Despite our lack of experience with bed and breakfast establishments, I doubt we will have the same rich, quality experience as our stay with John and Nancy. For us, our first experience with John and Nancy likely set the bar too high. Stay with John and Nancy, and you will never regret your decision!

I just read this very gracious review, after a morning that had enough problems brewing that I felt my mood deflating. This put some "wind beneath my wings", as the song goes, so you have been really great again. I hope we can see you folks again soon!

Amazing View! Welcoming hosts who let you hang loose...

Left on 02/04/2013 for a stay in February 2013

A girlfriend and I went to a roller derby bout in Crescent City and then went out dancing. We were told to come back anytime without concern for the hour and we were also told breakfast would wait until whatever hour we felt like getting up. We got home around 2am and then we were able to hot tub and wind down. Our wing of the house was quiet and private. I woke up on my own...greeted with a yummy breakfast. I'm dying for the gluten-free pancake recipe! The environment is chill and wow the view is to die for! We had some rosé after breakfast, in the hot tub (perfect temp). A great start to our day! We also were able to bring a med-sm sized dog, they were very accommodating. We will defiantly come back! I'm so thankful we found such an interesting nook with open minded people! Thank you John & Nancy

      Comfortable and economical

Left on 01/23/2013 for a stay in January 2013

      Kate and I love to search the Oregon Coast for quiet, extremely scenic rentals or B&B;'s. For the past two years the Dunshee House at Face Rock has been our favorite. It apparently was destroyed sometime last Fall and only remains. What a tragedy. We found Mermaid's Muse and stayed 3 nights. It was a safe and secure, highly decorated home. Since we were sharing the home of another we felt less able to have the autonomy we desire and have had with a vacation rental. We found the owners to be very nice hosts should you wish to have lots of contact in the B&B; atmosphere. The location is terrific and the view from the hot tub is of the Brookings harbor and coastline. Such scenery doesn't get much better than this! We found lots to do even in the Winter time. We golfed at the Salmon Run course, hiked several coastal trails and searched out restaurants serving great food. It doesn't always rain and the temperatures were comfortable enough to golf in a sweater. Brookings Harbor marina has been rebuilt and a fine destination for recreational boaters. The fishing boat and sailboat traffic was occasional and blended into the view from the deck of Mermaid's Muse. Tidal changes are dramatic and every time one looks out the expansive windows the shoreline is different. All of these descriptions are to reinforce why one should consider a trip to the Oregon Coast and we think you won't be disappointed by this B&B.;

Dramatic views, private room and hot tub, excellent breakfast...

The other reviewers are right on point about the hosts John and Nancy. We arrived at 9pm and were greeted with some wine and good conversation. That night, we relaxed in the hot tub under the stars and all the road stress from the day melted away. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean and private. In the morning, we slept in and were greeted with the Oregon coast and morning sunlight. What a glorious way to wake up!
Breakfast was a wide array of options -fruit, yogurt, juice, eggs, toast, great coffee. We were happy to chat with John and house guest arnie, and invited to enjoy ourselves on their waterfront deck afterwards. It was a divine experience. Highly recommended!

What a wonderful place! The house of Nancy and John is just as interesting as they are. I felt totally at home or even better. The bed is one of a kind, never slept so good in my life, waking up in the morning with a view on the ocean!!! And I had really good talks about what is going on in the states right now. For me as a European it was very interesting to hear the different positions of nancy and John on Obama, weapons and all that. Meanwhile I got served a nice piece of quiche. All together I strongly recommend this place and wish to come back one day!

John and Nancy were more than welcoming. Their B&B; is located down a small quite street with plenty of room for parking. The room they offered was beyond comfortable. A nice large bed with our own bathroom. We had access to the hot tub on the deck and the sauna. Breakfast was provided and was delishish. Everything was wonderful. The best part of the whole place was the view. It was breathtaking and I would make the trip for that alone.

We had such a great time at Mermaid's Muse. It was like visiting great friends who have a place on the Ocean. The house is amazing. It overlooks the Ocean which is right there. The view is the incredible Southern Oregon Coastline. John and Nancy's home is wonderfully decorated. It was fun to get acquainted with all of their fun art pieces. The King size bed was wonderful. The bedroom overlooked the ocean with our own deck and hot tub right outside the sliding glass door. John and Nancy were such great hosts. We hit it off immediately. They are happy to spend time with you or to let you be on your own. Their house is so big that they can easily hang out upstairs and let the guest use the first floor that has the bedroom and living room.
We don't usually do B&B;'s but we were so glad we did this one. I just had a hunch and it truly paid off.
