Washington, DCNice, but a few flaws
Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Centrally located and well equipped apartment overlooking a very busy (24 hours) and often loud playground/square. While you're on the third floor, you still get quite a bit of noise from the square. (We live in the inner city in DC, so we are really used to noise... and this is noisy.) The folks in the busy square seemed to be very friendly and kept to themselves. There are 2-3 small markets within 1-2 blocks of the apartment. Keep in mind that this apartment is on the 3rd floor and is a walk up-in the USa, this is the 4th floor.
The apartment comes with free internet and a lot of other amenities-even a laptop for your use! It is very centrally located in a good neighborhood-just a few blocks from metro, loads of restaurants, bars, etc.
In general, this apartment is very comfortable. I would say, however, that the bedding is in need of a change/upgrade. There is a bottom fitted sheet on the bed, but there is no top sheet. Instead, there is what seems like a duvet cover-but there's no duvet. This cover is made of a very scratchy material and is not comfortable. The pillow cases are made of the same material.Response from Nuria Dorronsoro - 10/03/2012
Owner
Hi, it is true we only put the duvet cover with no duvet inside in the summer, it is becausee it is extremely hot and people sleep only with that and the air conditioning, but I dont understand what you you mean with the scratchy material. You can always ask for a duvet, and there is always one in the wardrobe if you prefer it that way. I am sorry you think the flat is "average" as certainly it is not the case.

Left on 03/20/2012 for a stay in February 2012
I stayed five weeks in Madrid in February/March in this apartment and i must say i was delighted. Everything was perfect : cleanliness, comfort, decor, location, quiet enough (this is Madrid after all...)and efficient wifi. I really enjoyed having someone to clean the apartment every week and to change the bed and towels. This apartement is located at the third floor without an elevator, therefore it is not for everyone. I will come back at my next stay in Madrid.

LisbonDelightful apartment stay in Madrid!
Left on 02/06/2012 for a stay in January 2012
Everything surpassed our expectations. Clearly, the owner is very interested in making sure her guests enjoy the apartment and Madrid itself. The apartment is beautifully appointed and abundantly stocked with everything one might need, including kitchen items, Dvds, CDs, numerous up-to-date guidebooks, even a small medicine chest. The owner's caretakers responded to our every need. Also, Lavapies is a fantastic neighborhood, far enough from the madding tourist crowd, but an easy walk to places like the Rena Sofia, Plaza del Sol and Plaza Mayor. We've stayed in other apartments in Madrid and can't say enough good things about this one. We'll definitely be back!

The apartment was well-located and well-equipped. We found it very comfortable and spacious. Everything in the apartment worked well, and when we opened the windows, the cross-ventilation was delightful. The apartment is on the third floor so there were many stairs to go up, but this was not a problem for us. We definitely felt like we got a good value for our money. Nuria was very easy to deal with and was very helpful in answering our questions. Armando did a good job of orienting us to the apartment, even though he didn't speak much English and we didn't speak much Spanish.

We felt very comfortable at the appartment "Third Floor", which was very clean, well equipped and in a nice, very international surrounding. And, surprise, it was quiet, too. The booking and handing over handling with Nuria and Katia was easy and comfortable, there were no questions left open and we got a lot of tipps and guidelines to really enjoy Madrid! Thank you very much, we'd love to return!

Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in November 2010
This apartment couldn't be better located. Right in the middle of the best street in Chueca, with easy access to the metro and pleasant walking distance from some of Madrid's most interesting attractions - museums, galleries, parks and great bars, restaurants and shops are all close by. My friend and I shared the apartment for a week and never wanted to leave!
It can be a little loud at night - but this didn't bother my friend and I at all. It's just part of life in Madrid! -

Left on 04/14/2011 for a stay in March 2011
It's nicely located walking distance from many different interesting districts. It was great to have a place that felt like home after a day of walking through the city. With a few small markets nearby it was easy to grab a little bread and cheese and wine to have on the couch before running out for tapas and more.
The laptop and wireless connection were also useful for getting maps and open/close times for museums etc.
We loved our stay in Madrid and would almost certainly pick this apartment again when we go back.

Left on 01/01/2011 for a stay in November 2010
I started rented holiday apartments 3 years ago. I did because some friends talked me into trying this new experience.
I must admit that the must incredible thing about apartments is that you really feel like a local, you feel someone living there.
A loved this building. Despite the lack of lift the building has a very strong madrileno character, as taken out from an almodovar film. It was amazing how you open the door of the apartment and everything is modern and clean, but still with lots of character. The climb is really worth. We fell in love with the apartment in one second.
The apartment's location is excellent, much better than expected. We walked to all the museums and main atractions.
I fully recommend this unsual apartment, thoughtfully equipped and cosy as no other. -

Left on 10/27/2010 for a stay in September 2010
If you want a great value, spotlessly clean and modern apartment rental in central Madrid, this is it. Instead of paying substantially more for a hotel room, I would recommend this 1 bedroom apartment if you need a place to stay in Madrid.
It is completely self contained and in an authentic Madrid neighbourhood - not a tourist heavy area. Yet everything is a short walk away and transport links are good. Highly recommended if you want to live like a local and experience Madrid properly -

brazilConvenient appartment
Left on 10/16/2010 for a stay in October 2010
Despite the fact we had to bring luggage 3 floors up, the appartment was really a good option for a family of 4.
The district is not the best or an attractive one, but it looked safe. A lot of bars in the neighbor, but no sound comes into the appartment itself.
The appartment is conveniently located close to two subway stations (Lavapies and Tirso de Molina), so we could choose the best line for each attraction.
Metro is cheap in Madrid and Tourist Cards are available. There were two supermarkets (closes by 7:30pm), but we prefered to buy at El Corte Ingles at Puerta Del Sol (closes by 10pm).
Reina Sofia Museum is within a 10-min walk (free after 7pm). Other attractions reached by Metro.
The area lacks boulangeries and coffee shops. We had to previously buy everything.
The appartment itself was clean and well-equipped. It has Wii-fi internet connection, a netbook and all utensils needed for cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. We stayed only 3 nights, we didn't use everything available.
Check-in was easy, directions were precise (but numbers in the street were trick, because #17 goes after #20!!!). We took longer than we thought to reach the City by Metro from Barajas airport (at least 1hour and half, changing lines 2 or 3 times) , specially with luggage. We found out Madrid Metro is not always friendly to people with disabilities, older people or people carrying luggage.
If you plan to carry a lot of luggage, please consider somewhere else, like Hotel Moderno at Puerta Del Sol. But if you plan to travel with friends or family and look for an accommodation with kitchen, look no further. -

ManchesterSo much better than a hotel!
Left on 09/16/2010 for a stay in August 2010
We loved this apartment! Booking was easy thanks to the owner, Nuria, being very responsive and friendly in her communications. The location could hardly be bettered - within walking distance of most of Madrid's sights, very near a Metro station and just up the street from a supermarket. The standard of furnishings was high, in particular the leather sofa, and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, cooker etc, and the bathroom was perfect too. The whole place was decorated in a colourful and funky style, and we appreciated the little touches that you do not always find in holiday rentals, such as an iPod dock, also the fact that there was shower gel, dishwasher tablets etc provided. It seemed as though the owner went out of her way to make this place a home from home. Another thing that we loved was the air conditioning - we stayed in late august when it was minimum 35C outside during the day, so it was blissful to come back to the apartment, knowing we would soon be cool!
We always try to rent an apartment for city breaks, as they are usually so much better value than a hotel room, you have the space and facilities to really feel at home, and this one was probably the best we have ever found. -

Left on 07/14/2010 for a stay in May 2010
Excellent location close to public transport but also easy to access most 'tourist attractions' on foot. Lavapies is a lively neigbourhood but the street does not experience heavy car traffic.
The appartment itself is a delight. Everything is well thought through and organized which shows the professionalism of the people who rent this appartment.
You will read about the noise or the steep stairs in other reviews. For our part the building was very quiet during the two weeks we rented. As for the stairs, my husband and I are 60 years old, not in top top shape and we were 'proud' of the exercice (if you have been in Dubrovnik, Orange apt is nothing)
Thanks Nuria and Katia

When I booked the apartment I was in contact with Nuria. Nuria was very responsive and extremely helpful. We took the Metro from the airport and the directions attached were very clear. Upon our arrival at the apartment I called Isabel who showed up within minutes of my call to get us checked in to the apartment. From booking to check-in; the entire process was very smooth.
The apartment itself was superb. It was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. It was like a home away from home. Fantastic location with the Metro less than 5 minutes away as well as a variety of restaurants very close by. It was very helpful to have map which showed the location of supermarkets and great restaurants nearby. It was a great find and I’m glad I stayed there. I would highly recommend it to anyone planning to stay in Madrid. I would definitely stay there again.

Left on 04/30/2010 for a stay in April 2010
This is a well designed apartment equipped to self
cater in central Madrid. Our family stayed 4 nights
and found it well located for art, football and
eateries. There are many sites in walking
distance. The boys found the sofa bed comfortable
and appreciated the small selection of English
DVD's. Isobel gave a very helpful welcome and
showed us how all the appliances worked.
Everything was clean and there were plenty of
towels. Nuria was very helpful through the booking
process. She was also brilliant in helping us when
we became stranded in Madrid because of volcanic
ash disruption to flights. Her assistance helped
us transform a crisis into an adventure. I would
like to add that Nuria's apartment in San Sebastion
is lovely and very well located for both shopping
and the beaches. -

We spent a week at the "third floor apartment" in March 2010. The apartment is exactly as described. My wife and daughter and I were quite comfortable. The location is within easy walking distance of all major attractions as well as two metro stations. We were met by someone at the apartment who showed us all we needed dto know about how things worked. There was also a binder full of information about Madrid. It was very helpful. We would stay there again. Madrid is a great city. Also note that Spain is much less expensive than Paris or London. Madird is centrally located and an easy train ride to many other cities. We took a day trip to Toledo.

We had stayed in Barcelona for a few days before coming to Madrid. We found this apartment far better than the one in Barcelona, and also, Madrid is really a MUST. It was also much better than the apartments where we stayed later in Seville and Granada.

One issue was the noise at night in the neighborhood.

Left on 02/22/2010 for a stay in February 2010
We rented this apartment for a weekend and it was great.
It was impressive but not intimidating at all, a real home. The bed was extra confortable and kitchen was fully equipped, exceeded our expectations.
Everything seemed to be really well looked after.
Our favourite feature was the glass picture in the living room featuring the Madrid silhoutte, which is obviously new as it is not in the pictures. I must ask Nuria where did she get it cause we found it really elegant!
We loved the fact that the flat succesfully combines the traditional madrileño style of the building with a modern decoration inside.
The internet connection was also extremely fast.
Madrid is a fantastic place. We will miss the CHURROS and all the good food we ate.
We loved all the museums, being the Reina Sofia our favourite.
We also found very handy the information book in the flat, it was very complete.
Also, there is lot of information displayed at the door of the apartment, showing supermarkets, pharmacies and places of interest.
You never get lost!
If we missed something I must admit it was the French television, as most of the channels were in Spanish, but never mind, we didn't come to Madrid to watch television anyway.

Denver, CO10 days of Fun in Madrid
Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in January 2010
My two friends and I rented this beautiful apartment in late January to early February and it was perfect for us. The days were cold so returning to this comfortable, warm apartment every night for some rest and relaxation ended our daily adventures right! It comes supplied with everything you would need and more like a hairdryer. For three girls, having a hairdryer that worked with the electrical system was crucial. No need to worry with converters! We made breakfast daily in the kitchen and saved ourselves money by not eating out every morning. For me personally, having the iDock to charge my iPhone every night was a lifesaver as the converter I bought back home wasn't correct, so I greatly appreciated this small addition. The building itself was safe and secure and it was very clean. The neighborhood was safe and bustling and had plenty of convenience stores as well as grocery stores. The metro system was right around the corner if you needed it and the location of the apartment allowed us to easily see all the sights we wanted to on foot. Try the tea at the Moroccan restaurant, Albahia, just north of the apartment on Lavapies. It was delicious. Thank you to Nuria for her exceptional service. We were treated so well by her and Isabel, the lady who greated us at the apartment. This apartment is highly recommended.

This apartment was wonderful, clean, modern and confortable. We had a cot for the baby with really nice bedding, and lots of toys for our little girl to play. There were also lots of children dvd in English, that my little girl could not understand but she enjoyed watching them anyway.
The kitchen was fully equipped and there was coffee, sugar, oil, chocolate powder... We also liked the plastic plates for the kids, very fashionable.
The location is very central and there is no traffic noise.
We took the children to the "teleferico" as Nuria recommended and it was a really nice day out.
We would definetely stay again. -

out couch was horribly uncomfortable, and we were

down at 0100 in the morning, the party kept going.Response from Nuria Dorronsoro - 02/18/2010
Owner
I am very suprised about your comments about the sofabed, as it is an Italian sofabed and there are a lot of reviews highlighting the sofabed as suprisingly confortable. It was really expensive and we considered it as an "investment" for happy customers. Your description as "horribly unconfortable" really makes me think, in how many sofabeds have you ever stayed to use that words. Of course I know the bed is more confortable ( as it is memory foam), but this sofabed is far better than the average you expect to find in any holiday accomodation, it is open by simply rotating the back and it has a thick confortable mattress. The words you use to describe it, when it has been one of the things that we have been more careful with, are at some point hurting. You only spent one single night in the flat and it was a saturday night. I am sorry about the party, but that particular saturday was the CARNIVAL NIGHT, and it doesn't happen every day, not even every saturday, you were not lucky at all and I apologize. That was the only night you stayed, and obvioulsly tired after your 2 days delay. It is very clear that you couldn't sleep well that night (for the party or any other reason) and your are overreancting against the sofabed. I also want to point out that we never take one day reservations, and we let you in the apartment, only charged one night for you not to lose any money, and you are still not so happy about the value. In many apartments you would have paid for the 3 nights even if you didn't show up, so your rating in value (3 out if 5) is totally inappropiate and even ungrateful. You say thank you, but for your rating you don't seem that satisfied with your final value, could we really have done anything else?

Left on 02/10/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We are a mature couple and we travelled to Madrid for the first time to celebrate our birthdays. We always rent an apartment on our travels and do as much research upfront as we can to ensure an enjoyable stay. From making initial contact with the owner, Nuria, through to the refund of our security deposit the whole process was handled both professionally and cordially. We were met at the apartment by Sol (it was almost midnight when we arrived) and she went to great lengths to ensure we were comfortable with all aspects of the apartment, the surrounding area and wider Madrid. She provided her mobile number should we require her assistance during our stay. The apartment was perfect for our stay, very central therefore no need to use public transport. We walked everywhere and soon got our bearings. The apartment was clean and warm (it was very cold in December) and had everything we needed for our stay. We experienced some noise late at night but were prepared for this given the city centre location. Highlights of our stay were Reina Sofia, Royal Palace and surrounding area, the market and food at Plaza San Miguel (great tapas, wine and atmosphere at all times of the day) and the Rastro on Sunday because it is so different and diverse.

This apartment is lovely. I loved it all.
amazing arwork. I particularly loved the orange glass picture featuring Madrid silhouette in Steel. Unusual things for a holiday apartment, the definitely give the apartment a final touch!
The apartment is great, like a home, the location is great and the city is excellent. An amazing holiday!
I must admit I was worried about leaving a 200 euros security deposit and leaving without it, buty it was refunded really quickly, just as promised. We will definetely come back.

This apartment was exactly as described. Sol was really nice and helpful. Check in was smooth. Location was excellent. Really, I do not have a single complaint. It was so comfortable that I was sad to leave on my last day!

I spent two wonderful months in this lovely apartment and just loved it (the apartment and Madrid of course).
The location was just perfect - all the important sights in walking distance, the tube, a lot of restaurants and bars around the corner and Atocha railway station nearby. The flat is well equipped - there was even a Laptop and WLAN which I used frequently to stay in touch with home. The bed and the couch (a real bed when opened - Natuzzi is great!) are both very comfortable and the flat has a very personal touch with all the paintings and the chosen colours.
The service was just perfect - Nuria and Sol were so helpful - all e-mails were answered within minutes (or even seconds) and problems (if there ocurred any) were dealt with promptly. The cleaning service once a week was great and very thorough - altogehter the best service I ever had and I have been travelling quite a bit!
Madrid is just wonderful - great city to go out (the nightlife is incredible!). I love the food, I love the Madrilenos and I just adore the language! And I will surely come back!
Muchas gracias otra vez - Grit (la chica) de Alemania. -

A great location for a top class trip to Madrid. FIve minutes walk and you are at the Puerta del Sol. All the good stuff was in easy reach either walking or just a quick metro ride. The apartment was really cosy and the decoration very tasteful indeed, YOu can even get a decent curry in this same street!!!
The internet connection didn't work the first night we were there, but that was sorted out the very next day and apart from that everything was great.
Cheers ladies - we will be back -

We stayed in this flat for a romantic week.
From the first minute, eveything was great. Our computer was broken, and to our surprise there is a computer available in the flat.
We went to a couple of places that Sol recommended and they were absoluty great. We can't get over the crowds in the street in Madrid so late. our hometowm seems like a ghost city to us now. The flat is fantastic, and there are a couple of handy shops with the basics in front of the building, open until late.
We didn't really use the kitchen because Madrid is great for eating out. We used the fridge to keep our cold beers in!
You can tell everyone is the same as the kitchen seemed untouched! My conclusion is that Madrid is such a great city and we are really coming back.
This convenient flat made things so much easier and its walkable location allows you to make the most of your time in the city. -

After reading all the good reviews we decided to stay here for our visit to Madrid with our two young daughters. Sol was there to greet us and the apartment was spotless.
I can just confirm previous reviews are very accurate; the apartment is modern, the location is perfect, you can pretty much walk to all the sights in the old town, subway stop is 5 minutes away as well as good restaurants and a supermarket. We also felt totally safe in that area.
We would definately recommend it to friends and family and stay here again.
Only warning is that it is on the 3rd floor and there is no elevator -

Dearest NURIA and SOL,
thanks so much for making our stay here so positive. The appartment was just as advertised - clean, neat and excellent value for the money. Sol - thanks for being so prompt in giving us access to the appartment, and for sharing your local knowledge of the nearby quarter.
Retiro Park is a 100% must to visit while in Madrid (only 16 mins. walk from the appt.). The boating lake and the Crystal Palace were sheer delights. Prado Museum was magnificent from the outside and wonderful within. Walking around Madrid is a must, in able to absorve all the beautiful buildings and their facades. Not once did we make use of the Metro - it would be a shame to miss out on whats happening up top! The night life is of course what its all about - relaxing for example around Plaza Santa Ana for a drink, or taking in a tapas restaurant for to sample the true Spanish culinary delights.
Guess what - we loved Madrid.

Spending a week in Nuria's charming orange apartment in Madrid was a highlight of a wonderful trip to Spain from which my wife and daughter and I recently returned. Everything promised in her listing was true: the apartment is conveniently located in a historic building, beautifully decorated, and amazingly well equipped with every modern appliance you might need. And the air conditioning works so well that Madrid in July was not a problem. If that was not enough, Nuria, who lives in San Sebastian, and her local apartment manager, Sol, went more than the extra mile to assure that our stay in Spain was perfect. I will never again pay as much (or more likely more) for a hotel room in Madrid when we can enjoy the space, convenience, and comfort of Nuria's apartment.

We have just had a long weekend in the orange apartment, which is lovely. Location is great, walking distance of all we wanted to see, & the apartment is extremely well appointed, clean & comfortable. Little extras make all the difference, such as dishwasher tablets & shower gel being supplied, and coffee & basics in the cupboard - even a first aid kit! Good selection of music & DVDs too for all ages. Nuria answered all emails promptly & was very helpful. My purse was stolen on the Metro on the way in from the airport & Sol could not have been kinder, giving us assistance & even offering to come to the police station with us - thank you Sol! We loved Madrid, & will definitely be back - in the same apartment if it's vacant!!
