This cluster of islands lies in the Mediterranean Sea, off the southeast coast of Spain, and while each has its own distinct personality, they are united by astonishing natural beauty, beautiful weather and a Spanish fiesta vibe. Though many come for the sunsets, siestas and fiestas, the Balearic Islands are also filled with history, something that's evident in the monuments and churches that sprinkle the landscape.
The Balearic Islands are extremely popular with visitors from all over the world. If you're visiting, you can hop from island to island or base your stay on one of the five major islands in the archipelago:
Mallorca: This is the largest island in the group, and most vacationers come for the spectacular beaches. Exploring has its rewards, as well; outstanding golf, hiking, nature trails and outdoor activities are here waiting to be discovered.
Minorca: Minorca is the least overrun and crowded of the Balearic Islands. Largely unspoiled and filled with natural serenity, the entire island of Minorca is a nature preserve, with over 75 percent of its surface under strict ecological protection.
Ibiza: Ibiza is a partygoer's paradise. It tends to draw a younger crowd of vacationers and travelers to soak up the sun and fiestas until dawn.
Formentera: The southernmost and smallest island in the chain, Formentera draws throngs of vacationers to its spectacular beaches and offers a thriving nightlife that's a touch tamer than its wilder cousin, Ibiza.
Cabrera: Primarily a destination for island boat tours, Cabrera is largely undeveloped, offering outstanding scuba diving, sailing, and water sports.
If you're seeking thrills and adventure, the best time to visit the Balearic Islands is between Easter and the end of August. Millions of travelers from all around the world flock to the islands during these months to soak up the sunshine and enjoy a much-needed vacation.
Vacation rentals make ideal accommodations for visitors to the Balearic Islands. If you want comfort and privacy as well as convenience, staying in a beach villa or apartment rental is the ideal solution. Plenty of options are available, from beachfront vacation houses to accommodations in the islands' cities.
From the Balearic Islands, it's an easy journey to mainland Spain. The major cities of Granada and Barcelona are within easy distance, and offer even more to visitors looking for a deeper glimpse into Spain's welcoming and vibrant culture.

Villa Sunset / Can Tirenet
The best of all worlds: country, town, and beach
Villa Sunset was fantastic. Juan, the property manager was helpful and friendly. The property itself is just as it is portrayed in the pictures. With Old Town Alcudia and the Port of Alcudia only minutes away, you can enjoy the beach and town life, but then come back to the peacefulness of the countryside. Also, it's location near M13 made travel to other parts of Mallorca very simple. We had a total of 9 guests, all of varying ages (10-70yrs.), who fully enjoyed themselves and were very happy. The chef's kitchen, which is all we used, made things all the easier when we had time in the evening to enjoy the pool. …

Villa Andreas Menorca
Relaxed villa in great location for family holiday
We found the villa last minute after a problem with a booking.com reservation. The owner was responsive and helpful (throughout). The pretty, comfortable villa has everything you need for a relaxed family vacation; the kids loved the deep pool. I loved the master bedroom terrace with wonderful sea/sunset views. You can be in the sea in minutes. While you do hear the planes overhead from the small airport nearby they are a) not many and b) at specific times of day; to be honest by the 2nd day we didn’t notice them at all. We would definitely go again. …

Cala d'Or 2-bed Bella Luna Garden Apartment
Perfect base in beautiful Cala Dor
This apartment is fantastic. We cannot fault it for our family holiday. The owners have thought of everything - and more! The location is brilliant - close to shops and bars etc. And the immediate surroundings, including a huge garden and lovely quiet pool area, are fabulous too. We have 2 small children and this apartment suited them down to the ground. Spacious and spotlessly clean. We'll be back! …

APARTMENT WITH A PRIVATE TERRACE IN VALLDEMOSSA licence n.L12E7668
A bit of Mallorcan magic
Wow. You read the guidebooks, you see the pictures, but nothing quite prepares you for Valldemossa. When it suddenly appears above you on the MA-1110 from Palma, you think you've stepped back three centuries. It's breathtaking. And when you arrive at the small public parking lot at the edge of the old town, Macarena appears within minutes to walk you to the house, orienting you through the narrow cobblestone streets so you can find your way out again (it's quite easy - three turns and a few wide, flagstone stairs).
The house and its street are as picturesque as the town -- everything you see in the pictures. I visited in early March at time when it was in the mid-50's (+/- 12C) and arrived to find a fire burning in the small stove in the living room, and the house comfortably warm. The house is impeccably clean, and sparingly but attractively furnished. The kitchen is modern, with all the hoped-for conveniences. The roof deck is a quiet, secluded place to enjoy a glass a wine.
While the accommodations are superb, it is the owner, Macarena, that makes this a special place to stay. She is quick to respond to all emails prior to your arrival, and offers information, links, and telephone numbers to assist you in your planning. She meets you upon arrival and takes time to provide you with information on Valldemossa, and on Mallorca, and offers her recommendations on dining and sightseeing. And during your stay, she remains available to you as a local resource (and will check in by email to ask if she can be of assistance). She treats you like family.
Mallorca is on my short list of places to return to as soon as possible. And when I do, I cannot imagine staying anywhere else but here. Thank you, Macarena. …
