SaskatchewanWow - relaxing, private, affordable
Left on 01/17/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We stayed for 9 days at Point Village, in the most Northerly tip of the condominium complex. It was perfect for relaxing, snorkeling, tanning and walks on 7 mile beach.
We are about 60 years old - married, our kids had in-law Christmases planned - so we smiled as we bid Canadian winter and snow goodbye.
Because our condo was on the 2nd floor, it was super private . . . and we felt the second floor provided much better safety and privacy than a first-floor condo would.
We really appreciated Rolf - a nearby condo owner who looked out for our comfort and convenience. He was genuinely interested in our enjoying our stay.
Rolf told us that on Mondays a farm truck stops by. We bought lots of fresh fruit and vegetables - the price was very fair and the food excellent. Watermelon, cucumber, banana, papaya, sweet potato, pineapple, lettuce, carrots, etc. cost about $20 bucks.
Also, with our condo being on the North tip of Point Village, the sun never overheated our rooms. It puts you pretty far from the noise of the night life, which helps when you want peace and quiet, listening to the waves on the shore, and watching the brilliant stars from our balcony. Never needed air conditioning, though available.
We mostly did our own cooking, only eating out 4 or 5 times. This helped us afford our trip. When we did eat out we chose nice restaurants where the local folks eat. We befriended an awesome taxi driver who was a real help with finding these spots.
Collin was also our choice of driver for our excursions. We really enjoyed YS falls. This attraction is top class enjoyment, lots of staff to help make it enjoyable, no badgering for tips, and the price at about $17 us per person.
The Black River safari was also truly excellent if you enjoy the natural environment, with knowledgeable staff to enhance the excursion with scientific information. $15 dollars each. You can easily do YS falls and Black River the same day.
Collin introduced us to Chicken Lavish in Negril- great local food at a great price. They wrapped it up for us and we ate it back at Point Village. He also took us to Sweet Spice restaurant in Negril - excellent price, great tasting food, nice environment - their virgin pina colada was heavenly.
We never did figure out what a fair price would be for taxi to and from Negril. Be prepared to pay 4-6 us dollars each person, each way.
Remember to have a driver waiting for you at Montego Bay when you first arrive. If you don't ( and we didn't) it is bedlam trying to sort out how to get to Negril, with taxi hustlers pestering you relentlessly as you leave the airport. It costs about $75 us one way. If you get the driver to make additional stops - like for buying food and water - add $5 per stop. It takes just under 2 hours.
We enjoyed para-sailing for the first time. It cost us $120 us for a good half-hour including photo CD.
Were there any dislikes - sure. We disliked how often we were asked if we wanted 'weed' - and we didn't want it. They only ask you once, and they don't bother asking that again. Also we had to endure a small stretch of beach nudity - just to get to 7 mile beach.
Would we go back to Jamaica - absolutely! We would like to see the luminous lagoon. We have traveled many places in the Caribbean, Africa, etc. and would happily return to Jamaica for a winter retreat. -

NYCPoor Service, Apt 82 in Old Condition
Left on 01/11/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We were told this apt. was upgraded, had internet, towels, full kitchen, sleep 4, maid service twice weekly, etc. Was not true at all!
While Mr.Rose is a very nice person he is not at all good at service for Joyce who seems to be the owner, as Mr Rose runs a water sports business he is overwelmed when a few guests show up, constantly making excuses as to why he can't follow up.
The apartment was run down, TV and almost zero volume, internet was from hotel next door and worked poorly, No beach towels and the other sleeping beds must have been over 20 years old, very uncomfortable, and the sheets were used out!!!, No spoons, plastic forks, only one knife and extremly dull..coffee maker was great!
The location was quiet, except accross the small street is a guy with a sports car who is constantly working on it, doesn't mix well with vacation, and my wife and two daughters were constantly hit on by some single older men leaving close by! (gets old fast)Response from Joyce S - 01/19/2013

Thank you for feedback, however at the point of booking you were never informed that a full kitchen would be provided as this is not a service I provide. The cleaner is provided once per week if you require the cleaner more than once per week then there would be an added cost maybe this was not made clear enough. It is stated on the website the facilities that are provided, linen including towels, not beach towels. The apartment was indeed redecorated and previous guests in September did not view the apartment as run down nor lacking utensils. I know there were ample utensils when I stayed there. I am sorry you found the other sleeping beds uncomfortable but I can assure you they are not over 20 years. The internet service you picked up is a free service there is a pay and go service which is also available.New linen are bought on a regular basis so I am unclear why you would have been provided with worn out ones, contrary to your previous emails.I will of course clarify about the volume on the TV control, however this could have been checked by Mr Rose whilst you were there. I am sorry you found other guest's behaviour annoying however sometimes these things do happen, but thank you for your feedback.

ChicagoPeaceful, accomadating, relaxing, no tourist hassels.
Left on 09/27/2011 for a stay in August 2011
The area was extremely peaceful and the people who lived in the complex were very inviting and friendly. A short walk from the apartment to the coastline, you'll see very pretty and scenic views. From views of rocky coastline to quiet and private beaches, it was beatiful to take a stroll, catch some sunshine, and just relax with a homemade cockail from your fridge.
If you have a vehicle, parking is convenient and the property is just a short drive to shopping, food, and entertainment.
The foliage on the ground are well kept and neatly manicured. The only part of the hotel complex that still seemed to be in function was the pool area.
Staying at this apartment was really like you were living on the island. A visit to the grocery store is a great idea so you can fill your fridge with necessary items or perhaps cook some local foods in the kitchen area as we did.
There was plenty of sitting room for four as well as sleeping arrangements. Mr. Rose was just a phone call away from a cell phone he provided for convenience. He checked in frequently to make sure things were ok, and to see if there was anything we needed. The apartment had air conditioning as well as plenty of ventilation for fresh air if desired instead.
There were absolutely no hassels on the beach from locals as you would experience on the seven mile beach, and the beaches weren't filled with tourists becasue of the isolation of this property. The waters on the waters on this area of the beach were clear and very little sea grass washing up from the ocean.
We definately enjoyed ourselves for the apartment value and local non-tourist accomadations.
Joyce was very attentive via email and responded to all questions and concerns regarding the booking in a timely manner. Be sure to arrange form of payments and confirm booking dates with Joyce before you leave and bring contact information when you arrive to call Mr. Rose...he'll be expecting you;)!Response from Joyce S - 10/21/2011

MinnesotaAwesome location for a relaxing vacation!
Left on 03/14/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We arrived after dark and Karen met us and got us checked in right away. She was great the whole week we were there, as was Mr. Rose (L.S.). He brought us to get dinner and some supplies after we checked in. Our apartment was very clean and comfortable. The location was great-very quiet! The property was beautiful! Both beaches were excellent, and were never crowded. At times we were the only ones on the beach! The security staff was excellent-we felt very safe all the time. We got to know a couple of the taxi drivers outside the property and had great service from them. We had the perfect vacation, and could not have asked for a better situation. We are so glad we stayed here and didn't stay at a hotel on 7 Mile Beach.

Canadaperfect holiday
Left on 02/13/2010 for a stay in August 2009
My stay at the Point Village was superb.
I enjoyed the peace and tranquility that the property has to offer. Each morning I looked forward to my walk on the property - there is a fragrance in the fresh morning air there that makes me come alive.
I liked to go swimming and snorkeling in the afternoon just to gaze at the marine life because it is breathtaking.
In the evenings, I enjoyed the cool outdoors and the ambience that was so relaxing and made me feel at one with nature. A view of the beautiful sunset on the horizon was the perfect way to end my day.
Thanks for making it a perfect holiday for me and my family.
Best regards and looking forward to returning there this year.

We had a great time.
The only thing we missed was:
· a telephone
but we managed without just fine.
The view from the back balcony of Bloody Bay is the best – the water in that bay is such a deep, rich blue!!
Thanks for letting us enjoy your place in paradise!
Thanks so much!!!
