Description from the owner

The village is situated in the midst of olive groves with an endless view to the sea, full of Greek colors, narrow cobbled streets and never-ending bougainvillea plants, Venetian buildings and the blazons of the Kallergi family – evidence of a monumental era. In the best part of the village, Villa Athena await holidaymakers, offering a combination of the traditional Cretan hospitality with modern luxury and comfort.

Villa A. Kallergi is designed in simple, austere lines and subtle luxury in harmony with the natural landscape and the olive groves surrounding the village. The interior layout of the living spaces ens...Read more

It's definitely the place to stay!Tradition, character, elegance and cosiness meet modernity and comfort in a truly unique way. A breathtaking landscape will accompany your authentic Cretan moments and the welcoming ways of the Kallergis family will provide you with an excellent definition of Greek hospitality. Indeed unforgettable, I definitely recommend it!

      Unforgettable vacation!

Left on 05/21/2010 for a stay in June 2008

Thanks to Kallergis family I had one of the best holidays in my life! Generally, Greeks are famous of their hospitality, but in villa Athena I had a chance to see that with my own eyes. Dimitrios, who was my college friend from London, invited me there. As an art school graduate, Dimitri arranged the interior with a great taste and sensibility. I had my own room with bathroom viewing the swimming pool, in which I was regularly chilling myself after sunbathing. I’ll never forget our meals on the terrace- especially dining to the accompaniment of the guitar. It is a place where time stops and all worries disappear just by enjoying the pleasures of summertime.
      It is surely worth recommending.

      Vacations of great quality!

Left on 05/13/2010 for a stay in August 2008

Villa Athena made me feel like being the owner of a fully-equiped, well-decorated, cozy and extremely clean villa!!

It is located at the peaceful and historical village of Loutra only few kilometres away from the city of Rethymno, the sea and the crowded bars.

Having breakfast at the garden next to the swimming pool is the best way to start your day! I also enjoyed the sunsets and the quiet nights at the roof garden of the villa!

Not to forget to mention the great hospitality of Kallergis Family, owners of the villa!

all 10 of us had a great time!

Left on 05/06/2010 for a stay in September 2009

Hello from rainy London! would really like to thank you for your hospitality
over the couple of weeks of our stay in your house!
I would definitely recommend this place for any big group of friends. We are
actually very good friends in our late twenties but never had the extra bit of
cash or skill to sync the ten of us (!!) to take some time off together.
We all initially had a -secret- fear that we wouldn't be able to get along
under the same roof for such a long time. However, that all went away once
we saw this beautiful spacious villa in which we could all fit and even get to
have our favorite private ''DO NOT DISTURB'' spots. It proved to be not only
ideal for having a nice chill out time altogether in the huge green verandas
that surround the villa but also a perfect place for isolation, contemplation
or work when some of us had left back some unfinished work...! It was
awesome that we could have unlimited access to Wi-Fi internet. This was
quite surreal, as we were in a medieval village full of countryside sounds
coming from the hill opposite the village (morning cockcrow, night owl,
sheep bell sounds)! Creating such a relaxing and soothing ambience at
      different times of the day.
After waking up each day the adventure would start by finding the next
beach or site the Kallergi family had suggested us to visit. But even on
those lazy days that no one wanted to do anything because of the heat, villa
Kallergi remained so cool partly because of the 'cave' way it has been built
and due to the presence of air-condition in each and every room of the
house. After a short walk to the village alleys we got back to the house and
a delicious surprise was waiting for us all home made greek food by Mrs
Athena Kallergi ! I hope you will be lucky too!
Needless to say, it was our best time ever that combined fun, relaxation and
catching up with each other. And all that without spending more than £17
per person each day for our stay in such a luxury!

Most amazing and thrilling time ever !

Left on 04/25/2010 for a stay in August 2001

      The welcoming was pleasant.
We had the best service ever, with smiling and hospitable people taking care of us.

The house is located in the charming town called Loutra, which is very authentic. The atmosphere of the place is peacefull and relaxing.
The house (Athena) itself is well arranged, it has lovely rooms and great terraces.
Most of rooms were bright and well exposed to the sun but nevertheless cool.
Athena has a peacefull design which recalls the atmosphere of Crete's villas.
Being close to the town Rethymno, we could easily combine fun, good restaurants, parties, calm and sweetness together

In the end, this 3 weeks stay provided a restful and great time for all of us.
We've made memorable encounters and had plenty of time to enjoy the beach, the house and visits.

I do recommend this house to whoever would like to have an unforgettable stay with all the people he/she loves.

We will never thank enough the owners who took really good care of us and showed kindness.
They also respectfully initiated us to greek food and culture.

Thanks you so much for this moment engraved on our memories for ever.

      we loved loutra!

Left on 03/09/2010 for a stay in August 2008

Wonderful place!! Loutra is a must if you want to stay in a tranquil environment while being close to the town of rethymnon and its amenities. We stayed at villa Athena the four of us with our children , seven the whole lot, and one of our first impressions was how Clean and tidy it was. we had air condition in all rooms we used (rethymnon can get really warm in august). Having a drink at the roof of villa Athena is a must since you will get views of the sea from one side and of the hill, full of olive trees on the other. Its very family friendly and we had some quality time with our friends in the villa while the children spent their day at the pool. The place is very children safe and family friendly. we enjoyed a lot the balconies and the open spaces within the villa.
Ask for elia suite for its views or Poseidon suites for its access to the pool, both have great views and tasteful design!!
Do drive up to Xovoli taverna for food , and if you are lucky the owner, mrs Athena will cook for you the best pastitsio you ever had in Greece.
We loved Loutra and we plan to go back there again. Definitely value for money
