Magical week of roof-garden sunsets and SMa discoveries

Left on 02/08/2013 for a stay in February 2013

Our group of 10 adults just returned from a fabulous week in Central Mexico headquartered at Casa de angel. Guide and property manager Daniel Hernandez picked us up at the airport and entertained and enlightened us at every opportunity. He was helpful and his bright personality put us at ease right away. His pride for his country and culture was infectious.

It was our first time in this part of Mexico, and we found plenty to keep us occupied, including walking to the lively town square, exploring the city on foot, sightseeing in nearby Guanauato, trying out margaritas all around town, dining at some amazing restaurants, both fancy and modest, hiking the lovely Botanical Gardens, and just hanging out in the sumptuous home. Really. The decor is amazing.

We spent many hours on the rooftop garden, enjoying sunsets, the gas-powered fire pit, the hot tub, the beautiful plants and flowers, and one another's company.

The walk into town is very steep both directions, but taxies are cheap and abundant. I wouldn't want to drive on the narrow streets.

The home is so beautiful and covered with brilliant bougainvillea. Although the place is handicap accessible, the spiral staircase to the rooftop is narrow and steep and could be tricky for someone with a disability.

      Overall, five stars all around.

One of many gorgeous sunsets viewed from the roof-top garden. A delicious modestly placed mole at a little place just off the square. The colorful market is several blocks long, full of bargains. SMA is dripping with art, architecture, and whimsy.

      Absolutely beautiful and wonderful!

Left on 01/13/2013 for a stay in January 2013

Casa de angel is an absolutely beautiful and well kept home in San Miguel. The house is very well taken care of by Daniel and Gracia, and it is in perfect condition. We enjoyed the upstairs outdoor patio/fire-pit and grill every night and it was magical to watch New Year's fireworks all around town from our private view!

The house is beautifully decorated and has every amenity we could ask for. Actually, even better...we couldn't find grill utensils so we called Daniel to ask but told him it was not critical and no rush. Well, they were delivered within hours; Gracia personally brought them over on New Year's eve! Excellent service!

Once again, thank you, we had a wonderful week long vacation and can't wait to go back.

What a woderful phrase! It means no worries for the rest of your days!

Hakuna Matata. That is what Nena and I experienced when we stayed at Casa de angel in San Miguel de allende. We enjoyed this wonderful and stately home very much. Even the small things were done with a touch of class; like the aromatic, sweet smelling flowers palced in our rooms (tuberose). We loved them so much we planted our oun at home just for the memory. We are going back for sure and suggest you try this beutiful home when you visit San Miguel de allende. You'll be singing Hakuna Matata for the rest of your days if you do.

      An outstanding family vacation!

Left on 08/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Casa angel was exactly as presented and perfect for our family vacation and all our get togethers. We were 11 in family plus another brother who lives in San Miguel and joined us for dinners and visiting. The home is lovely, not too far (and downhill) from el jardin and the uphill trip home was an inexpensive cab ride. We had quite a bit of rain but still really enjoyed the rooftop patio, hot tub and barbecue!
We were able to explore San Miguel, Tuesday Market, the hot baths, museums and shops and still all gather back at Casa angel for family dinners.
Daniel was a wonderful help and resource and his mom. our housekeeper, kept everything in order. With 11 of us that was no small thing. She made dinner for us our first night - it was delicious, a great introduction to San Miguel and the house, and most reasonable.
I would recommend Casa angel to anyone with great confidence.

The days went by too fast!

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in February 2011

I stayed here for a week with friends and family. Every day was great! We relaxed, we enjoyed the fabulous views, we watched the sunset over the valley and town from the magnificent terrace on top of the third floor. We started each day with coffee on the terrace and ended it each night by looking at the stars. The local property manager was delightful and extremely helpful as a tour guide and source of local information. Thanks to him and his assistant we toured sights we would never have known about. Our housekeeper also spoiled us with her attention to detail and a fantastic meal we requested from her. I stay there was everything I could have hoped for and more.

We found the stroll into the heart of the city each day to be easily manageable. We usually went out twice a day... the first time to see sights and in the evening to find dinner. We went to different places each day and were always surprised how great each meal was.

The house was comfortable and large with more than enough space for a group. The kitchen had everything we needed.

I highly recommend this location to base a visit to San Miguel.

From the very start the service we received was superior. Daniel, the home manager, picked us up from the Leon airport and drove us to San Miguel. Listening to him talk about the culture and history of the area was only the beginning of our travels with him. We all traveled to Guanajuato and Dolores de Hidalgo with him as our guide. Daniel is a highly educated, professional guide with a great sense of humor.

The home was immaculate and uniquely decorated. The panoramic view from the deck on the top of the house was great. Our party spent a lot of time on this deck enjoying the view as well as a fire pit area and hot tub.

We were located about a 10 minute walk from the center of San Miguel. It was not a tough walk. Coming uphill back to the casa we took a taxi on most occasions. There are lots of taxis and they are very willing to stop at any point and let you get in.

One of the high points of our stay was the traditional Mexican breakfast that Graciela prepared for us at our request. Every day Graciela unobtrusively cleaned and kept the house in order for us. We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

The most relaxing vacation I have ever taken!

Left on 07/11/2012 for a stay in January 2012

My boyfriend and I had the best time at Casa de angel! The people were so friendly and helpful. Daniel, the house manager, made sure that we made the most of our stay and was a wonderful tour guide. The Draper's, the owners, went out of their way to be sure we knew where to visit and eat while we were there! The cook made us the most amazing food ever! Authentic Mexican! So good, Mexican food in america just isn't the same! She was so kind and patient with my lack of Spanish speaking abilities and taught me how to cook some dishes that have made my friends speechless! The house was inviting, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The view was phenomenal! It was the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken! We will be back!!!

We stayed here for a wedding in San Miguel de allende. We had 3 families from Costa Rica and the us all stay together here. Daniel (the manager) was very easy to work with and so was Scott (the owner). The house is beautiful and very well designed. We spend most of our time while we were at the house on the breathtaking roof terrace. With a grill kitchenette, spa, and gas firepit all with a stunning view, you never want to leave. Thanks Dan and Scott for everything...unforgettable!

My husband and I stayed at Casa de angel this spring with friends and had a wonderful experience. We had heard great things about San Miguel but it and the Casa blew away our expectations.

The friends we invited could not believe how luxurious and beautiful the Casa was. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace, long soaks in the hot tub overlooking the city and surrounding mountains, slept late in beautifully decorated bedrooms, and explored downtown San Miguel which was a quick 10-minute walk from the house.

One of the highlights of our trip was the house manager, Daniel. He was very professional and considerate during our stay and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and show us around. The housekeeper, Gracia, totally spoiled us with her thoughtful service and fresh flowers.

What more can I say except I highly recommend a stay in San Miguel at beautiful Casa de angel. I hope to return there soon myself.

      Beware

Left on 04/22/2012 for a stay in November 2011

Myself and four friends stayed in the home for dia de Los muertos. None of the requests I made for groceries, margaritas, chips and guacamole daily ever appeared. I repeatly reminded the"manager" Daniel, nothing . He showed up once 3 hrs late to leave the keys and never appeared again and was completely unreachable by his cell. The house is in a terrible location. Took 10 minutes to walk down the hill to find a taxi and another 10 to get into town. The cook was mediocre at best. 360 view, yeah if you hike up narrow stairs to the roof then look behind you... Wow an overgrown vacant lot. The topper, they took $370 from our deposit for a drip of wax on a chair. A broken glass and to rekey the house.. If they didn't want the candle burned just where they were placed, why provide them? O of us mistakenly took the keys. How bout sending us a note to return? Completely and utterly unsatisfactory. Do your selves a favor, there are plenty of grand homes with delightful staffs, good managers ,and reasonable owners. I know I have stayed in them.

Response from Scott Draper - 04/27/2012

      Owner

We are sorry that we had to charge Karen's group for the damage that was incurred during their stay. We have never had to do this before or since with the hundreds of guests that have enjoyed the casa. We feel that we were very kind in our assessment of the actual damage to Casa de Angel.

Our staff, including manager, gardener, maid and cook, typically receive rave reviews. I and family and friends love them and find them extremely caring and competent. Most feel that Casa de Angel is in an ideal location- we chose the site purposefully as it affords one of San Miguel's most grand vistas and it is close, yet not in the fray, of el centro. As a reasonably fit 50-year-old, I find the beautiful walk to the jardin is comfortable right at ten minutes.

We wish Karen and her group the best and hope that they return to magical San Miguel de Allende soon!

If only we could have stayed longer...

Left on 11/22/2011 for a stay in November 2011

Our stay at Casa de angel was truly perfect...the only problem was our stay was too short! Our group of 8 was in San Miguel de allende for a friend's wedding and would have loved to stay longer. From the moment we arrived at the casa, we were impressed with the fine decor and welcoming nature of Gracia, the housekeeper. She offered to prepare an authentic meal for a fee which we gladly accepted on the first night - I wanted to take her home with me in my suitcase! Wonderful carne asada, rice, beans and a "cheese pie" for dessert...Yum! Once we were caught up on our sleep after a long day of travel, we were able to enjoy the roof top fire pit and hot tub...the view from the roof is incredible. Daniel, the house manager, is extremely helpful and friendly. He was there for whatever request we had; including obtaining cerveza and tequila for our group dinner! Sma is truly a magical city which we will return to (hopefully sooner than later!) Thanks to Daniel, Gracia and Scott for a wonderful trip...we will be back! Next time, we plan on traveling to SMa, we will visit the attractions the city offered. We were so busy with the wedding, we didn't have a chance to explore too much...great excuse to return!

We enjoyed our month in this most beautiful, home perfect for entertaining or just relaxing. 4 patios; for sunning or dining in the cool shade, or enjoying the city lights from the rooftop while sizzling steaks.
At your service the chef's international repertoire spans blue cheese popovers to Thai cuisine. We enjoyed breakfast in bed and showering in one of the master baths-with glass wall overlooking a private forest. The bilingual staff are pleasant and attentive to our every need. Fresh flowers, grocery shopping, laundry-at your service, all included- better than any 5 star hotel.

Photos do not do Casa de angel justice. It sits on top of the hill and over looks the whole city with gorgeous views from very room. Lavish decor in elegant Mexican style with a roof top hot tub, barbaque and fire pit ready for your outdoor fiesta. We enjoyed the twinkling lights of the city from the roof top garden. Enjoy one of the many wonderful restaurants in town, cook in the fabulous gorurment kitchen or have your meal cooked to order by Graciella. Lots of transportation options readily avaliable. One of my personal highlights was taking authentic Mexican cooking lessons, also enjoyed the city of Guanajuato. Everywhere we went the people were so gracious and welcoming, I can't wait to go again.

It just doesn't get any better than The Casa!

Left on 04/20/2011 for a stay in April 2010

This was our second visit to Casa de angel. We weren't sure if we would "feel the magic" like we did the first time, but the minute Daniel (the house manager) picked us up from the airport and we stepped through the door of the Casa, we were "home". This vacation spot makes you feel so special; the house (villa is definitely the right word!) is so comfortable and spacious with furnishings and local art that will blow you away. Every room you step into has another wonderful discovery. The kitchen is so well equipped, the outside living spaces thoughtfully planned. Make sure Gracia, the housekeeper and cook (optional) makes huevos rancheros for you!
Sma is a safe, beautiful town with so much to see and do. You can walk most anywhere, but make sure to bring comfortable shoes! And if you don't feel like walking, taxis are cheap and plentiful. We loved going out in the early morning and walking in the cool air as the city woke up and all the locals were heading to work.
The hot springs are a must as well as the El Charco Botanical Gardens. Restaurants are wonderful with a huge variety of cuisines.
Take a day trip to Guanajuato (either by bus or Daniel's services)and take the tram to overlook this colorful, cosmopolitan city. Amazing.
But no matter where you go, or what you do, coming back to your home, Casa de angel, is always something to look forward to. Relaxing and cooking meals together (a la The Big Chill!) reading on the patio, margarita in hand, or watching the sunset from the hot tub on the roof deck - it just doesn't get any better than Casa de angel. We hope to go back again!

San Miguel, a breathtaking, fun, healing vacation!

Left on 04/11/2011 for a stay in September 2007

Scott and Annette's Casa de Angel is both warm and elegant. On its rooftop spa there is a breathtaking view of the city of San Miguel and the surrounding mountains. Our exploration of the city with its quaint streets, gardens and shops revealed one of the loveliest places we have found anywhere in the world. Some of the restaurants are four star. A major plus is that the community welcomes North Americans. It has a large population of American citizens. Their contribution to the city's benevolent activities suchas the funding of the local library is one of many reasons why it is such a safe, popular, beautiful place for U.S. citizens to visit and live.
Scott and Annette's Mexican home, Casa de Angel is a jewel. San Meguel is its priceless setting.
