We are a danish fam. 8 persons, and we enjoyed so much to stay in Villa Sekala. This Villa have it all, nice rooms, lovely garden and most of all the kindest staff. We felt so welcommed, supported and guided. No problems, only good vipes and peacefullness.
We did`nt want to leave and hope to return again.Response from Shelley Kenigsberg - 04/30/2013

Annette, I hope you return too! I'm so glad you came to stay (well, stayed under the care of the wonderful Komang, really!) and that you had a great time. Bali is calling... for your next visit.

Left on 12/07/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Our family comprises 2 young men, a couple with kids, 8 and 11 and me, the mum/stepmum/stepnana. Komang managed to fit this disparate mob in with some fancy juggling and a trundle bed. We arrived in the evening and were welcomed by Komang and Bobby (gorgeous Maltese/King Charles Spaniel). We all wandered the magical garden oohing and aahing like little kids and kept that up for 10 days... Komang and his girls are a delight, nothing being too much trouble. Unobtrusive but always ready to step in with conversation or help. The decor is fascinating, always something different to look at. Breakfasts were delicious, best crepes and scrambled eggs ever. The location is good, quiet and secure yet close to some excellent restaurants. The Villa is beautifully maintained and a credit to the charming Komang. We would have happily extended our stay if we could have. Although part of our visit was for the sad purpose of resting my darling husband's ashes in Ubud monkey forest, we found tranquility in this lovely place. Terima kasih. Peace was with us. Xx

I'm so delighted you found the joy and the peace you were looking for from this trip. And that Villa Sekala fitted your bill!... I also know the depth of Komang's care... and all of the staff... and I can't wait to sample those breakfasts again myself. Let alone just spend time in that garden...
Do come back! Warm regards, Shelley -

My wife and daughter and I , along with my daughter's partner, stayed at Shelley's beautiful villa in Sanur last September, and I've got to say I was quite sad to leave this lovely place. It's a rather unusual villa in terms of its architecture, landscaping and interior design but, for us, all in a good way. It has an almost Moroccan feel about it, without losing its Balinese aspects. We loved it, quite frankly, and could happily have extended our stay. We were extremely well looked after by Komang and his assistant, who supplied us with a most elaborate and carefully crafted breakfast every morning, which we took after our morning swim in the delightfully warm swimming pool. That pool was also where we would end up every evening after eating out in one of Sanur's fine restaurants. So much fun... I've rarely felt so saddened at the prospect of having to leave a place. I would recommend this haven to absolutely anyone, it was a sheer delight. We would definitely stay there again!

Thank you Brendan and all. It's always gratifying to hear you were happy here. But... you might not be expecting that I review you (!). Your care and love for the place was superb; but your attention and love towards our lovely little dog so intense, that I am now in the doghouse (!). I can't match it. I'm in trouble. I think you had better return and visit again! Warm best, Shelley

I spent two months in this wonderful villa, with every need catered for by very attentive staff. The ambience is exceptional, the decor and comfort levels spacious and unique. It has a beautiful private pool, and is only a stroll down to the beach.
If you are after tranquility, convenience, comfort, spaciousness and being well cared for, this place would be hard to beat.Response from Shelley Kenigsberg - 07/26/2012

You would never guess how well situated you are to the bustle of Sanur's shops and restaurants, from the absolute tranquility of Villa Sekala. I had the opportunity to buy this place in 2009, and still sport the bruises from where I have kicked myself for not acting on that perfectly understandable impulse. I love the place. Stayed for 6 weeks and not for a single minute, was I anything less than totally happy. I have never felt more at home.

Thank you too, for passing up on buying the place so that I could. You're welcome to return and relive that happiness...any time!

The moment you are greeted by the charming Komang, you feel at home. Quiet, thoughtfully decorated rooms are private and pretty. A delicious pancake and fruit breakfast on the patio, looking at the artistic, blooming landscaped garden, wakes you up gently. The pool is beautiful, the beach is a stroll away and the ocean breezes cool the days and evenings. At night, garden lights turn the experience into a fantasy. Relaxed and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

NairobiComfortable, funky, friendly, magic experience in this house
Left on 05/04/2012 for a stay in January 2012
We rented the property as a family for 3 weeks over New Year and a wedding. It comfortably fitted all of us in its 4 bedrooms, which all have a/c and fans. There is a huge veranda space which makes it easy for everyone to use it, 2 dining tables, plenty of lolling areas, a lovely decent sized pool.
The villa is pretty funky - clearly the person who designed it has a very original sense of style. Curves, great lights, mosaic abound.
The garden is big for a Bali villa in this area and full of quirky statues (as is the house). Mosaic people, a raining man, the most amazing spinning globe that kept the kids fascinated for hours, angels, contorted torsos dot the landscape and pond so you feel like you have landed somewhere very special. There is also an amazing amazonia flower that rarely flowers but when it does lasts a glorious beautiful 24 hours before fading out.
Komang, who looks after the guests is a real gem - so friendly and ready to help out. We all became most reliant on him. He prepares breakfast, helped with laundry and the hundreds of small details - getting a sim card, finding nice take-away, everything really. In many ways he really made our stay, with his sunny disposition.
We loved our time here- there were few grouses - a couple of power outages and a bit of an issue with chemical balances in the pool. I am a regular visitor to Bali and in the dozens of houses I have stayed at, I would rank this in the top 3 of ambience, efficiency and enjoyment. It is a hard house to leave in some ways- everything is in there. But if you do get out, it is in the posher part of Sanur and only a few minutes walk to the beach (or a cycle ride as we regularly did along the beach boardwalk). There are good restaurants close by and an excellent yoga place on the beach about 5 minutes walk away.
I have subsequently sent a number of friends there, and all of them have loved it. Well worth a visit.

Thank you for your words and for summing up the place so beautifully. It's always a thrill to see how others see the place. Of course, I love it..but it's great to know that the special elements do matter and made such a positive difference to your stay.
I take note of the issues with power outages and the pool pH balance. We're mindful of these and appreciate your pointing them out.
Do come back. We love return visitors and look forward to welcoming you again.
