“The place you must have --if it's available then book here quick” Excellent property /location and facilities . Owner next door left cake and wine to welcome us . She was friendly but did not intrude . Plenty of room for 2 cars . Haltwhistle is pleasant and located well for walking -not just the Wall . Take the train to Carlisle and go round the castle etc . Good pubs, shops and sandwich bar in Haltwhistle . Eat out at Milecastle and Greenhead? hotel.

THE GRANARY, family friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with a garden in

Longframlington house

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 4

“Best Holiday In Years!” The Granary is a cottage to fall in love with. From the moment you drive through the gates, to discovering and falling for this sumptuously appointed and spacious holiday home, to waving goodbye and wishing you didn't have to, I cannot rate it highly enough. For a couple or small family it is just superb and my fiance and I only wish we could have stayed there during the summer months to enjoy the patio etc fully. The bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms particularly are as if brand new, simply stunning and near faultless, the 2 power showers excellent, although the shower cubicle base did fill up to the limit within about ten minutes for those who like me enjoy a longer shower! But the over bath shower next door was of the same type and did not suffer this minor problem. Great tiles, mirrors, lighting, heated towel rails, etc etc. Kitchen utility area and downstairs toilet beyond it are a real bonus and all so well presented you felt pampered. Fully equipped kitchen, only gripes were tin opener wasn't working and no egg cups, I defy you to find any others! The sunsets from the large kitchen cartwheel window were beautiful and provided some lovely snaps of my car. The plentiful books/crosswords/Dvds/CDs/games were a nice touch and added to our holiday, as did Hamish, the friendly doorstop dog! Comfy beds, although we found the 2 seater sofa of only average comfort, a bit slidey and needed a throw. Enjoyed the candles and woodburner and melting pleasantly even during the cold spell, plenty of wood and coal supplied for a week. Central heating superb although smoke alarm annoyingly activated whenever grilled anything. Lots of places to visit in all directions, Alnwick, Berwick, Morpeth, Rothbury, Coast, what more do you want? The owners were very cheerful and helpful although they were in process of moving out. We were greeted by the new owners who we also found friendly. Ah, the memories. Best holiday in years!!!

THE RED BARN, family friendly, luxury holiday cottage, with a garden in

Longframlington house

“A lovely holiday in a lovely property.” The Red Barn is very clean and comfortable and had everything you could want to make your stay there a really enjoyable experience. We thought the wine, cake and flowers made a lovely welcoming start to our holiday.

“Cosy and relaxing” Newly baked scones, homemade jam and tea things are laid ready on the table to welcome guests. The cottage is very well appointed and the decor is excellent but not overstated. There is a good shop in Otterburn, only 2 miles away, where you can get newspapers and all basic food requirements. About 10 miles away there is an excellent Farm Shop at Wallington Hall. Elsdon is a good centre from which to visit the whole of Northumberland and the border towns in Scotland, but for those more active visitors there are good walks nearby. Newcastle with all its amenities is only a 30 minute drive away. This is a really lovely place to stay; if I must find something not quite perfect it is the lack of a walk-in shower, but that's just my personal preference.

THE OLD DRAPERY, country holiday cottage in Haltwhistle, Ref 9821

Haltwhistle house

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 2

“Nice place; handy for Hadrian's Wall.” Nice loft flat that's very handy for Hadrian's Wall. Makes a good base for folks with 2 cars doing point-to-point walks. The flat is much better than the entrance way and hallways. Nicely furnished and the kitchen is well-equipped. My one complaint is that the taps in the kitchen and bathroom are very cheaply finished. The bathroom sink and shower both leaked from our arrival. Overall, very handy for the local grocery store and pubs. Haltwhistle itself is lacking in depth in restaurants and pubs, but there is a very handy chip shop just down the High Street. "The Milecastle Inn" is a very nice pub just 3 miles away, on the Military Road, that does good food.

THE REAVER'S RETREAT, ground floor apartment with direct access to

Haltwhistle house

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 2

“Beautifully decorated and furnished.” This is a lovely place for a couple to stay. It makes a great base for a touring holiday in Northumberland. In walking distant of Hadrian's Wall. The inside is done to a very high standard and is comfortable. There's plenty of shops, cafes and pubs in the village. The only downside is that it's on a main road but that didn't detract from our enjoyment of our holiday in any way.
