We stayed at Karen's gite in Stigny for one month and we had a wonderful holiday there. The gite is a charming home :we enjoyed the garden and our dinner with BBQ ,the vegetables and fruit we could pick up in Karen's garden, the quiet and peaceful evenings listening to the little birds.THe location is really an interesting one with lots of facilities to visit the places in Burgundy. I have only one thing to say: go there and you won't be disappointed. As for us, We already miss Karen as she is such a happy and helpful person. We'll try to come back for sure.

“A tucked away little gem”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2015

This traditional stone and timber gite in the small rural village of Stigny was the perfect place to unwind for a few days. Even if we had been unable to venture out, it would have been conducive to curling up on a sofa or cushion and working one's way through the well stocked bookcase. However, the weather was excellent and we enjoyed visiting some of the beautiful medieval villages and towns in the vicinity as well as chateaux and abbeys, enjoying the pretty rolling countryside as we drove around. So this would be a good base too for walkers and cyclists with plenty of paths and waterways to follow. The gite was equipped with everything we needed. We were lucky enough to be able to take all our meals outside in the secluded garden both breakfast and barbecuing in the evening - using meat from the excellent charcuterie in Ancy le Franc, other shops supplying all our other needs. On more inclement days eating in the candlelit dining room would have been atmospheric, too. Certainly an excellent place to store wine purchases! Karen, our host, had supplied a very useful list of suggestions for dining out. Those we used were good value and we had a memorable final evening meal chez Mme Priure, at L'Auberge de la Baume, Balot. Indeed Karen was a helpful, friendly, charming host, a lady who has immersed herself in the life of this village. We felt we could have asked her anything. I would imagine this gite would be a perfect place of tranquility for anyone wanting to study or write. Our only regret was that we were there a little to early to avail ourselves of the cherries which were ripening on the tree overhanging the garden. We will have to time it better next time! “Delightful”

Reviewed 25 Oct 2014

What a simply gorgeous place! My husband and I were delighted to stay in this lovely, typically French gite...exactly what we hoped for - charming, quaint, authentic, peaceful, private and old. After 9 weeks travelling Europe, this gorgeous place topped it all off at the very end of our much longed for trip to France. Thankyou to Karen and Clive for offering this special place to travellers like us. We so love to experience the authentic cultural aspects of the places we visit and La Poterne exudes that true, quaint, French appeal. Loved the private hedged garden, comfy bed, hot shower, original sink and bread oven, cleanliness, authentically rustic fittings and well equipped kitchen with toaster and kettle. Our evenings were spent in total relaxation by the open log fire in the living room - the best way to reconnect and switch off. We came away knowing that the simple things really are always the best. Karen was most accommodating in making certain we felt at home, helping us with maps and ideas for day trips. We visited the canals in the nearby town, walked along the towpaths, ate at a local restaurant and did the walk of Signy - such a pretty town set amongst sweeping farming fields. Be certain to visit the old wash house right next door to the gite, the local church and the walking path around the outside of the town. The open views across the land are lovely. Thank you Karen and Clive for the very special memories. Erin and Brendon.

“Quiet life in the village”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2014

We had a wonderful time staying in Stigny. It served as the perfect home base for excursions into the area. We loved the village and especially enjoyed hiking in the surrounding countryside. During our stay we were able to enjoy sitting around the fire in the evenings (a special bonus for a family from Florida) and eat out in the garden. Our host Karen was so attentive. She greeted us when we arrived and then helped us with advice and sightseeing ideas. The cottage has all sorts of character: stone walls, some low ceilings, and a great old kitchen sink. If you're looking for the Ritz, this is not for you. But if you're looking for a charming cottage in a peaceful town, I recommend La Poterne.

“Lovely cottage in a charming, rural village.”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2013

We had a wonderful stay here, almost a week of exploring Burgundian countryside and villages. Went for small walks around the village and off every day in our rental car to explore the larger cities, town markets, country chateaus, beautiful abbeys, and wine tastings. In the evening we would light the fireplace and spread out our day's finds of local cheeses, meats, fresh fruit, chablis and bubbly cremant. Karen was a wonderful hostess, attentive and ready to help out with any request. Having WiFi was a service we appreciated. This is a rural gite, with nearest cafes and restaurants a short drive away in neighboring villages and towns, bring an auto.
