Description

Welcome to La Vieille Auberge (The Old Inn)

In the picturesque village of St Julien aux Bois, this Oak beamed Medieval style former Coaching Inn offers superb accommodation.

One question people always ask is,

"Is the main picture the whole house or is it semi detached?".

The answer is yes, it is one large beautiful old house!

Three double bedrooms (two ensuite), cosy lounge & impressive dining hall with log burner & minstrels gallery!

If you have a baby or toddler, a high chair is provided and also a play-pen / cot.

The kitchen is equipped with electric double oven & hob, fridge freezer, microwave and a range of quality cooking & eating utensils.

To compliment the rustic charm, the kitchen also has a log burning range cooker, a wonderful addition for those chilly winter months. The entire house also has a modern central heating system.

The property also benefits from a lovely patio / BBQ area to the rear. Laundry facilities & quality bed linen / towels are provided.

The area is totally unspoilt and the house ideally located enabling you to explore some of the most beautiful areas in France.

Relax & soak in the stunning Correze scenery or explore local market towns. Enjoy scenic walks and cycle rides, canoeing, swimming or fishing in nearby rivers & lakes.

The village also has tennis courts and an area to play the game 'Boules' or 'Petanque'. Tennis rackets are there for you to use.

Use of the owners bicycles also available.

If you are considering a family gathering over the festive season this is the perfect place. A large decorated Christmas tree will welcome your arrival and a bottle of Gluhwein to warm you up after a woodland walk.

The nearby village of St Privat has all the basic requirements such as supermarket, bank, restaurants, bars and bakeries. Customers of the local bar in St Privat are allowed free internet use.

Bookings for 'La Vieille Auberge' are usually taken Saturday to Saturday but mid-week bookings and mini breaks are "sometimes" available so please ask or visit: www.la-vieille-auberge.co.uk

“Beautiful house, superbly equipped & in a lovely friendly community”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2014

We spent a very happy week in this lovely old restored auberge in the Correze. The spacious, characterful house is clearly a much loved home from home for the English owner and he's equipped it with everything you could possibly need for an excellent holiday, from bikes and tennis racquets to good quality pans and full table settings for large numbers. The house has a lovely feel and is nicely decorated and furnished. Everything is robust and of good quality, so even with an active and curious 2 year old we never felt we had to chase around after her telling her not to touch things, or felt there was anything dangerous or unsuitable. The service was excellent throughout and the owner went to a lot of trouble when we booked to make sure that we had all the information we needed to make the holiday a success. He stayed in touch and went out of his way to accommodate us in every way he could as did Louise who looks after the house for him. Added to this, he clearly gets on very well with his neighbours as they are so very friendly to the guests and take a real interest in making sure you're enjoying their little part of the world - all you need is a bit of French and a smile! Trying vainly for the sake of balance to come up with some disadvantage, there are some steps outside and the old staircase has its idiosyncrasies, which together probably make the house unsuitable for someone with mobility issues, but our toddler had no problems and the owner made sure we knew about it before we booked, just in case. Peaceful, tranquil and relaxing, it's not the place to go if you want to go clubbing every night but it's a beautiful place to spend time with family and friends and come back refreshed and rejuvenated. Best holiday rental I've experienced in terms of house, service and welcome. I think La Vieille Auberge may have ruined us for any other holiday rental...:)

“What a fabulous House!!!”

Reviewed 12 May 2012

What a fabulous house! Our stay in La Vieille Auberge was absolutely wonderful. So full of character with comfortable beds and loads of space. The garden has a huge BBQ which we used almost every night. This is such a lovely area in France, nice pleasant locals and a really quaint village. Our canoe trip down the Dordogne was "a laugh a minute!" Our only regret was not taking a picnic as there were lots of places to pull over at the side of the river. The bikes are great too. We cycled through the forest for miles and ended up quenching our thirst at the bar in St Privat before wobbling back (through the forest not on the road!) For a totally relaxing holiday I cannot recommend La Vieille Auberge highly enough. We will definitely return.

“Real Rural France”

Reviewed 12 May 2012

Within easy reach of Limoges Airport, St Julien aux Bois is a quiet and peaceful hamlet in the Correze region which makes an ideal location to experience the French way of life. Closely situated to many picturesque villages and sites of interest. The heart of the Dordogne is within easy reach by car. La Vieille Auberge is a remarkable 19th century stone house with many original features such as oak beams and floors. The kitchen is equipped with Aga style log burning range cooker and quality cooking utensils such as La Creuset. The dining hall comprises a minstrel’s gallery with a large dining table which could comfortably seat 12 to 14 people. There is a cosy sitting area with log burner for quiet evenings in. The beds are very comfortable which guarantees a good night’s sleep. You are guaranteed a warm welcome from the French speaking neighbours who can give you daily weather forecasts, in French of course. Great if you are trying to learn the language. Great location for walks and bike rides (bicycles provided). The English owner is eager to please and welcomes feedback and suggestions to make your stay even more enjoyable. We have visited France and rented several gites over the years and have stayed in La Vieille Auberge for the last two years in succession. We are likely to be staying there again this year and would not hesitate to recommend this accommodation to our friends and family. Bonne vacance! “Outstanding property in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 12 May 2012

La Vieille Auberge is simply stunning, not only is it a beautiful spacious house with immense character but it is furnished to the highest spec with quality linen, comfortable beds etc. The village was a joy to stay in, we were made welcome by French neighbours and the location was ideal to access historic towns, medieval villages and breathtaking countryside. We have stayed in many rental accommodations within France but this was by far the best and exceeded all expectations. I cannot recommend La Vieille Auberge highly enough.
