Description

Mannings Cottage is a charming country cottage that offers an ideal base from which to explore both the stunning coastline and beautiful countryside that East Devon and its surrounds offer. It is suitable for families, couples or groups of friends with its configuration of 3 bedrooms sleeping 5 people. The stone cottage has character accents such as exposed beams, slate floors and a cosy wood-burning stove, but provides modern and comfortable accommodation. It is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the charming village of Stockland, which is surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside but is only 20 minutes from the coast and 30 minutes to the cathedral city of Exeter or the popular market town of Bridport. The large private garden is delightful with a separate outdoor seating area for 6. The cottage has internet access and Wi-fi is available. The cottage is a short stroll from our local pub, The Kings Arms, where you will find a warm welcome and great local food and drink.

Further details

Mannings Cottage caters for children of all ages. We have a travel cot and bedding, high chair, booster seat and toys & books for babies and small children as well as a library of children's DVDs. A small playground, large field, cricket pitch and tennis court can be found a short walk from the cottage at the Village Hall. The tennis court can be booked and used by non-members by paying a small fee to the Stockland Tennis Club. Guests are spoiled for choice for great family days out with Escot, Bicton Park, Crealy Adventure Park and The Donkey Sanctuary (to name a few) all within a 30 minute drive. Our friendly local pub, The Kings Arms, is a short stroll from the cottage (less than 5 minutes walk). They serve lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday and lunch on Sunday and have a large bar and separate dining rooms, so you can pop down for a pint and/or a delicious meal.

“Lovely cottage”

Reviewed 17 Aug 2021

We had a lovely stay in this well-appointed, clean, three bed cottage, buried in the heart of the Blackdown Hills in Stockland. The conservatory dining room was perfect for eating and socialising in and just next to the good size well-equipped kitchen. There were two decent double rooms, the single was much smaller and probably good for a child, but did well enough for an adult (if you don't mind a smaller bed and an eves ceiling - thankfully neither bothered me). The tea/coffee and milk that greeted us on arrival was much appreciated and the prior correspondence with the owner Diana was always helpful and swift and made us feel welcome. You'll definitely need a car to visit given the location but there are local amenities. The King's Arms pub is 5 min walk away, excellent food, service and space (with local beers on tap). I'd go even if it wasn't that close. We enjoyed a tour of the (one field) Dalwood Vineyard with wine tasting - Mike was very knowledgeable and personable and the wine made the 3 mile walk back to Mannings more sprightly, though perhaps we shouldn't have tackled Horner Hill. We also went to Burrows Farm Garden, which was a nice potter even in the rain and ended with yummy cake and tea. Perfect holiday cottage and location (3 adults).

“Lovely!”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2019

Manning's is a lovely home from home. Very clean and equipped with everything you could need. The beds are really comfy and the linen is a great quality. The garden is beautiful and private too, with a table and chairs. Though Stockland is rural and you do need a car, it is a perfect base for exploring with lots of beaches and towns not too far away. Lots of information is made available for visitors. There is a local pub currently under renovation so that will be another bonus to staying at Stockland. Would stay again.
