“Apple Blossom and a Dawn Chorus” It was our second stay at Hawthorn Farm Cottages staying again in the delightful Friars cottage. We had all the facilities we needed, what we like was how spacious and clean it was. Hot water on demand and a cooker for those cooks, even a microwave if required. The bathroom is spacious very clean, and comers with a power shower, again hot water does not run out. In to the lounge you have a large tv with dvd player and clock radio, to the back of the sofas a dining table and chairs with plenty of space for a family of four. Two bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and the other a double, comfy double, the single beds we had no need to use. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful orchards all around us, just starting to go in to full bloom, apples, plums to pears. The views are far towards the river stour and beyond. Walk down the path left of the driveway you head towards the Stour, a lovely river for an evening stroll. Driving into the cottage you come to a pond on the left with beautifully coloured fish and a waterfall. A little further down the drive are the cottages with plenty of parking which goes with the stunning designed garden not tarmac but lovely pea shingle. Further to the right behind the cottages are the lovely ladies clucking away and want to talk to you, hens who talk, well they are very friendly. then two stunning donkeys will amuse you and the young ones. Plenty of farm shops within driving distance and some farms selling free range eggs, better than any supermarket. Canterbury is great for shopping, use the park and ride, it's cheap and buses are regular. For excellent food try the Goods Shed at West Canterbury Station, a must for all cheese, meat and cake lovers. Or Gibsons Farm Shop on the outskirts of Wingham a lovely warm chocolate brownie and ice cream is a must. Steve and Doreen made us very welcome, yet did not impose on us. We only needed to knock if we required anything from them. If you like dogs Fly the most beautiful border collie resides with Steve and Doreen, she even takes you for a walk, and will show you how to throw sticks for her to retrieve. She will have you trained, just by the way she looks at you. So well behaved and the best natured friend anyone could want. It was a lovely short stay, and hopefully more to come.

Perfect place for a country break for 2 with easy access to Cant

Everything was great. Very friendly welcome by the owner. Cosy, convenient and comfortable with many thoughtful touches. Lovely garden. Really useful to have wifi for us. Stairs are quite steep, so you need to be cautious if you aren't fairly agile, though we're seniors and had no problem. … see more

The Stables
Great Couples Getaway

I booked the Stables as a surprise for my partner's Birthday. In the lead up to our trip anne, the owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful via email so I had high expectations which were met and even surpassed upon arrival. The property was absolutely beautiful, in a very good condition and very clean (the photos do not do it justice). It was the perfect amount of space for 2 for a short break with a lovely comfy bed, cosy living room and good sized kitchen and bathroom. Doors opened out on to the garden and there was a table and chair outside where we had breakfast most mornings. Anne had prepared a hamper for our arrival which included the essentials; tea, coffee, sugar, milk, bread, cakes and even a bottle of wine and card for my partner's Birthday which was a lovely touch. The cottage is well placed for exploring Kent by car or bus (bus stop at the top of the driveway), particularly Sandwich and Canterbury which are close by. There is also a very informative binder with leaflets and ideas for things to do in the local area although, we found just chatting with anne and Rob gave us plenty of inspiration! We would definitely book this cottage again.see more
