Castle between Peniche and Obidos
History in the walls: A castle manor experience close by Peniche and Obidos

We stayed 3 nights at Paco real del Rey in Serra D'el Rey and enjoyed it. The owner representative Ricardo was very responsive and made sure we had a good experience. As usual let me give you the pro's and con's: Pro's: - the internet works flawlessly and is relatively fast even with 5 people on YouTube simultaneously - it is a historic place. Rumor has it that King Pedro snuck away to spend nights with his lover Ines at this castle manor. - the theme of royalty is well implemented throughout the house. - the garden area with the pool is very nice and quiet indeed. The pool is big enough for kids and adults to swim a few laps. - Ricardo's attitude towards his guests is spot on! He'll fix it if it is broken. - the living room is nice and the pool table an added excitement for kids and pool players alike Con's (some of these are already being attended to by Ricardo) - the TV needs fixing and a larger size one would be nice - either a washing machine or a paid service to take care of laundry would be nice - the village itself is quiet and not much is going on, but then again you are only a short drive from both Peniche and Obidos. Not to mention multiple world class golf courses - the kitchen isn't really properly equipped All in all I can recommend this place if you are looking to stay for 3 days or longer. Villa Dom Carlos
The host, Carlos Fernandes, and his parents were most gracious and helpful.

A group of seasoned travelers spent 12 days at Villa Dom Carlos and had a memorable time the last two weeks of May. The villa is in a great location and less than an hour from many historical and charming sites. We visited many of them (some we had not known about) and enjoyed them all. These included, Obidos, Alcobaca, Batalha, Tomar, Fatima, Sintra, Lisbon, Peniche, and Marfa. We also went to a bullfight and a Fado concert. The host, Carlos Fernandes, and his parents were most gracious and helpful. We enjoyed it so much, that we are recommending the trip to our friends. I think it would be a wonderful trip for a family with children so that they could experience a different culture and visit the old, but well maintained sites with much history. It was much better than on the photos. We all felt very comfortable. Great house. We were 8 people and there was much space for everybody. 3 bathrooms!!! really good. A big table inside and outside. Outstanding house in fabulous location.

House is way bigger than the pictures on the web. Lots of amenities inside and out meaning less for you to worry about what to bring. Huge patio with BBQ making ideal for al fresco dinning. Really good choice of restaurants nearby. Owner even has some cards of their favourites which is a really good idea. The nearest beach is just a very short drive away and within 30mins the are many more. Will come back here without a doubt. … see more
