“perfect” We love Oar Island. It is the perfect vacation place for families with children of different ages, or just a couple. There is hiking, sunning, relaxation, but mostly what we love about Oar Island is the isolation. It is an adventure as well, since the only way to get there is by the little motorboat. It is a getaway for certain kinds of people; but if you prefer the Marriott type of stay, this is not that kind, it is much more "out-doorsy".

“Autumn Sublime” Bearcamp is nestled on a knoll at the pond's northern edge affording spectacular mountain and water views and sun from the east in the mornings and from the west in the afternoons. The docks are located on both sides, making it easy to launch a resident canoe or swim or fish from either point. The house is fully equipped with a kitchen, large family room with a fireplace and a bedroom and bath in the main cabin; the attached bunkroom has two additional bedrooms that sleep 6 and a bathroom and storage area. Only 5 minutes from us Route 25 and you feel the special remoteness and timelessness that is so characteristic of the Sandwich, New Hampshire region. Walking trails from Bearcamp lead to open country roads for cycling or a well-maintained trail system courtesy of the Wonalancet Outing Club, providing access to Mt. Chocorua or the many companion peaks in the Ossipee Ring. Fall is spectacular but summer is also a great time to be here because of the swimming, boating and quiet reading on the shaded decks attached to the house. If you want sun and solace, park yourself on either dock and enjoy!

“Girls Weekend” My daughter, granddaughters, and I stayed in the Tuckaway cottage at Kathan Lake Resort /Inn recently. We had a great time. The cottage was really darling and had everything we needed, (we brought our own towels and food, of course). We got there pretty late so we ordered a homemade pizza from the bar. It was excellent!!! The girls tried to take the row boat out, but the wind kept pushing them into the weeds. The lake was quite weedy. That afternoon the wind blew a tree over into a transformer and we lost power for a few hours. But Barb, the owner, was real good about keeping us informed what was going on and an approximate time the power would be back on. The one thing that we did not like was the three good sized spiders in the cottage that we killed. Not fans of spiders! All in all I would recommend the Kathan Lake Resort to anyone.

“Great experience in fantastic cabin” My family (of 8) stayed there for 4 nights in July '12 for my wedding. The cabin was a lot bigger than I was expecting. There are two bedrooms (each bedroom has a queen or king size bed) downstairs as well as two bedrooms upstairs (each of these bedrooms has 3 twin size beds). The downstairs also has a living room and a large wrap around screened-in porch - as well as a back porch that is not screened in. There were kayaks, float mats, games, etc... to play with. The only real downside is that there is only one bathroom. The cabin is right on the lake and is less "rustic" than the other cabins my family/friends rented for the wedding. This one was by far the nicest in terms of being a little bit more modern. The owner was also very easy to work with. The last night I only had 6 of my family stay there and the owner was nice enough to reimburse me for that charge. I would recommend this cabin for those wanting a nice cabin on the lake.

“It had everything we needed inside and out!!” This was such a cute little cottage. Well maintained and very clean. It had everything we needed inside and out! We really enjoyed the water front. Kayaks, paddle boat and paddle boards were tons of fun! The fishing was also great! It was a quick drive to whitefish and glacier national park. The views were amazing!

“Close to Nirvana” It would be difficult to find a better spot for spending a vacation than the Quietside of Mt. Desert, and the Gray Barn experience is part of the fun. The accomodations are modern and in great shape, and the windows both have a great view over upper Bass Harbor and give great air circulation. Access to cellphone and internet coverage is a convenience. The kitchen is very functional, though you'll want to visit the lobster pounds and restaurants in the area. A perfect base for hiking in acadia National Park. The week we were there was perfect for using the owner's kayaks in the upper harbor and the estuary beyond. We've stayed three different years and will be happy to return.
