There's No Place Like Dome!

Pittsburgh house

3 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Ufo Oaisis” The Dome is a great place to stay near Pittsburgh. It is architecturally and historically a very interesting house. Check the map to make sure you know which road to go down to get to it, its in a quiet neighborhood. The owners are great and can help you find it if you need assistance. I particularly like the portal windows, it feels like I am in a submarine or a spaceship. The house is nicely decorated and has lots of private space and separate rooms. The house also a nice area where you can sit outside and enjoy coffee or a meal. The house is equipped with a nice large TV and has plenty of places to sit or lounge around. In my opinion the house is in good shape and is comfortable. I enjoyed staying at the Igloo, the Dome, or the UFO! Whatever you call it I would recommend staying here, I would definitely stay again.

About Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a sprawling, multicultural melting pot with a rich industrial history, world-class museums and buzzing nightlife.

Whether you’re here for a short trip or a longer vacation, find a luxury condo or historic vacation rental in Pittsburgh with FlipKey.

About Pittsburgh

The 63rd-largest city in the US was once known as ‘The Steel City’ thanks to its thriving steel industry. Pittsburgh has been shaped by its immigrants; the first settlers here were the English, with the Scots, Irish, Welsh and Germans arriving soon after. By the late 1800s, workers from Europe began to arrive, and today the city is a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities.

Nowhere is this melting pot more evident than in Pittsburgh’s diverse neighborhoods, each with its own unique heritage. From the hustle and bustle of Downtown to the North Side with its museums, there’s plenty to see and do here.

Make sure you stop off for a Primanti Sandwich – french fries, coleslaw and the fillings of your choice all sandwiched between two slices of Italian bread. Other local specialties include fish sandwiches, chipped ham, city chicken and of course, Pierogies (dumplings).

What to do

Start your vacation with a trip to the North Side, where you’ll find the Andy Warhol Museum, as well as the nearby Mattress Factory for contemporary art. The Mexican War Streets neighborhood is home to brightly painted houses, for great photo opportunities.

Soak up some local history with a trip to the Heinz History Center, where you can learn about things that were invented in Pittsburgh (like the Ferris wheel!), then check out the Carnegie Museums and the Natural History Museum, both of which are great for a family day out.

Ride the funicular at the Monongahela and Duquesne Inclines. Built in the 1870s, it’s a fantastic ride to the top, almost 400 feet above the city, with spectacular views from Mount Washington.

The nightlife here is buzzing, too – check out some of the dining options in hip and happening Lawrenceville and end the night on Butler Street, with its trendy wine bars.

Top Pittsburgh travel tips

Pittsburgh International Airport is 20 miles west of downtown and can be easily reached by hotel shuttle, a city bus (connecting directly to downtown), or a cab.

Buses here are reliable - but paying your fare can be confusing! For journeys traveling out of/away from downtown, fares are payable when you reach your destination, while for journeys going into/towards downtown, you pay when you board the bus. Rather confusingly, for all journeys between 7pm-4am, payment is taken when you board.

Art, culture, fantastic food, shopping and some of the most eclectic architecture around – whatever you love, you’ll find it in Pittsburgh.

Affordable & comfortable stay... easy commute to Downtown & Oakl

My boyfriend and I stayed at this apartment for 2 weeks while major kitchen and bathroom renovations were in progress at our home here in Pittsburgh. We initially considered using an extended stay chain, but this apartment turned out to be in a convenient location for us, and the price was definitely more economical! We were able to catch buses nearby to easily commute to work in Oakland and Downtown, and visiting friends were able to easily find free on-street parking for their car. When we arrived, the apartment was well stocked with freshly laundered towels and linens, basic shower supplies, a blow dryer, kitchenware, and coffee/tea supplies. The beds were very comfortable and had plenty of pillows. The building's exterior and lobby do have a run-down appearance (the owner's girlfriend said they're planning to paint and install new flooring in the lobby and stairwell later this year)... but the interior and furnishings of the apartment were clean and appeared well-kept. It was definitely in much better shape than most of the apartments I viewed when I recently helped a family member find a long term Pittsburgh rental! Although the apartment isn't located in the most picturesque part of the city, we felt safe even when walking back from the nearby Shadyside and Highland Park neighborhoods late at night. The area the apartment is located in is a transitional neighborhood, but anyone who's used to being in an urban setting (i.e., with a basic level of street smarts and an awareness of their surroundings) should feel comfortable here. All in all, we had a pleasant stay, and would definitely recommend this apartment and the owner to others. In fact, we've already made arrangements at the owner's other property, a really cool dome house, for out of town family members to stay there when they visit later this year!see more

A Unique Location Makes for an Enjoyable Vacation

A friend and I recently met at the Dome for a short getaway. We had a great time! It's comfortably furnished, and it has a great kitchen. We brought a computer which we connected to the Hdtv with an Hdmi cord. With this setup, we were able to watch several movies which were enhanced by the surround sound system provided at the Dome. Located in an older neighborhood in the hills of Pittsburgh, the Dome is not quite as remote as we thought based on the photos, but it is within a short driving distance of many Pittsburgh landmarks including the andy Warhol Museum, the National aviary and the Duquesne Incline. My friend and I had a great time at the Dome. The price per night is good, and we were able to save money by using the kitchen to prepare meals instead of eating out. We would definitely recommend this location if you're looking for a vacation rental in Pittsburgh!see more
Newly renovated home close to Monroeville Mall
Convenient Location, Clean, and Comfortable

This home is in a quiet residential area but is just a short drive to many stores and restaurants, the Monroeville Mall and a small park. It's about 20-40 minutes away from Carnegie Mellon and U.Pitt, depending on traffic It has been completely renovated and everything is spotlessly clean. We especially enjoyed relaxing and playing with our toddler on the large, open porch. The owner kindly purchased a high chair seat, which made mealtimes much easier.see more
