“Lavender Lodge was perfect in every way, lovely location quiet a” Greeted by the owners on our arrival made very welcome, showed us around lodge and made sure there was nothing else they could do for us. The lodge was in lovely condition and well equipped. The standard of furnishing was very good. The village was ideal location local pub and village store and a garage (2 min walk). What we liked most was the peace and quiet, a very relaxing Easter break.

“Lovely Retreat” This was a perfect location for our family to gather. Not only was everything clean and comfortable, but it was fun, too. The children had use of an in-ground trampoline, and we all enjoyed watching the sheep eat apples from the orchard. There is lots to do nearby, so we would love to return. Beautiful grounds, good beds, big kitchen, quiet location--everything you need to enjoy the countryside.

About Somerset

A coastal county in Southwest England, Somerset offers some of the most beautiful scenery in the British Isles. Typically English and indisputably romantic, this region is defined by its verdant green pastures, herds of fluffy sheep, and quaint villages. Among Somerset's many attractions, the town of Bath is one of the country's most unique and beautiful settlements, while the little village of Cheddar is surrounded by a truly picturesque countryside. A land of legend and folklore, many believe that the Somerset town of Glastonbury is the mythic island of Avalon from the tales of King Arthur.

A drive through Somerset will take you through some of England's most lovely landscapes, including Quantock Hills and Exmoor National Park. Along the coast, Somerset's small villages overlook sand beaches and the English Channel. A fertile land and major agricultural region, Somerset produces a large portion of England's cheeses, most notably, cheddar. To wash it down, Somerset's villages also make wonderful hard ciders from the ample apple orchards in the region.

As Somerset's biggest town, the city of Bristol offers excellent shopping in the Broadmead district, a lovely historic downtown, and unique food shopping at the charming St. Nichols market. Bristol is also a great place to visit during one of the many annual music and theater events, as well as the annual hot air balloon festival.

Here are a few additional suggestions of things to do in Somerset:

  • Clevedon: Be sure to visit this lovely seaside village with a pebble beach and well-preserved Victorian downtown.
  • Bath: This country town is where Roman invaders built a public bath and spa.
  • Glastonbury: A cute and bohemian village, Glastonbury is home to a famous annual music festival, as well as one of the most beautiful abbeys in England.
  • Weston Bay: This seaside community features picturesque beaches overlooking the deep blue waters of the English Channel.
  • Wells Cathedral: This cathedral is known for its stained glass windows.
  • Weston-super-Mare: This area is a great summer destination with sandy beaches and a fun boardwalk with shops and restaurants.

A vacation rental in the countryside is one of the nicest ways to enjoy Somerset. If you want to soak up the unique atmosphere in one of Somerset's tiny towns, a comfortable condo can provide more space and amenities than any of the local hotels. If you are heading to the shore, consider a cozy cabin overlooking the English Channel or a lovely beach villa.

Bramble - Beautiful barn conversion near Glastonbury with Hot Tub
Cozy

Our stay was very enjoyable. Caroline was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the Bramble to anyone but warn them that this might not be the best place if you are over 6 foot. If you don't mind hitting your head a couple times then this is the place to stay! … see more

West Garden Apartment Cider Barn Welcomes a smiley, defleed Dog.
Excellent Stay in a converted Cider Barn

We had a lovely week long stay in the West Apartment. Louise was there to meet us with her gorgeous dog Inca who was so friendly right from the start. It’s in a very quiet area so ideal for relaxing and very good for our very anxious little dog, there is a nice walk you can take with a dog right on the doorstep so an ideal location. The Apartment was lovely, very comfortable with everything you need for a relaxing week away. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room was Ideal with a nice big shower with plenty of room. The living room was a nice size and comfortable to relax in day or night. There is parking in the courtyard out the front with gates that can be closed if needed which we needed to do if we were letting our dog out into the courtyard, this wasn’t a problem and once shut it was perfectly enclosed and safe to let the dog out on her own. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend a stay here if you are intending to visit the South West.see more

A beautiful place to stay with everything you need. Really clean and well presented.
