Description
La Grange is a converted barn (built in 1830) situated in a small and authentic Alpine hamlet just south of Chambery and right at the heart of the Chartreuse National Nature Park, France. The surrounding pre-alps top out at 6500 ft and provide stunning views, skiing and other mountain sports in Winter plus some of the best hill-walking in France during the Summer. The Chartreuse region was designated as a National Nature Park some years ago in recognition of its outstanding natural beauty plus the fact that it is home to some of the rarest Alpine flora in Europe and sports an extensive range of wildlife (with some breeds being unique to the Park). In addition, the area is steeped in history and is famously known for the original Chartusian monastery after which it is named. La Chartreuse is in close proximity to Grenoble (the capital of the Alps), Annecy and Chambery.
The barn conversion has been completed with a great deal of love and attention and provides comfortable 3-star accommodation for 6 to 12 people (depending on group make-up). Environmental issues where also taken into account impact in this sensitive landscape. We have installed a photovoltaic roof, which provides for all our electricity needs and heat our water with a solar system specially adapted to altitude. There is a large communal kitchen/dining room for up to 12 people. Each bedroom features an en-suite shower room and toilet. A large wooden terrace is available outdoors for Summer dining plus a comfortable lounge with Sat. TV, free wifi and a wood burning stove.
La Grange is an ideal venue for the more intrepid traveller interested in outdoor activity sport and nature. Hiking is a popular Summer activity, as is cycling, climbing, caving, horse riding, trail running and via-ferrata. Winter guests can enjoy the full range of winter sports including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snow-shoe tours. There are over 2000 kilometres of pistes and trails available in the Park itself. Our charming little hamlet is approx' 4 kilometres from the local town, St. Pierre d'Entremont where the usual range of shops, banks and services are available. St. Pierre also boasts one of the best organic butchers in France and, of course, the Savoie region is well known for the high quality of its cheeses and extensive range of locally produced wines.
La Grange represents an excellent venue for all types of small group activities. In recognition of the excellent walking available quite literally from our door, we now organise all inclusive walking holidays for groups of 4 or more. We are also happy to organise and contribute towards group stays for self-development work, photography, painting, food and wine, cookery and more. Contact the owners to discuss in detail. Though not included in our regular self-catering rental rates, we are happy to quote and provide food if required.
