Description from owner

Description

The Granary is extremely spacious, occupying the central part of the barn dating from 1844 - graded 5 star Gold by Visit England. Large full height windows at either side of the barn give fabulous views both from the large entrance hall and the first floor gallery. The tiled entrance hall has a sitting area one end with beautiful views over the garden and woodland beyond.

Two bedrooms are on the ground floor, one with French windows opening out onto its own patio. The third bedroom is upstairs. The living area upstairs is open plan, with a high vaulted ceiling and original oak beams that gives a delightful area to relax in front of the wood burning stove. It also includes a spacious dining area and a well-equipped oak kitchen with a second dining area.

The private garden is fenced, giving a secure area for children to play, and for dogs. There is a large patio area, with table and chairs for 8 and a charcoal barbecue, leading onto a large grassed area.

The area is ideal for walking or cycling through beautiful countryside teeming with wildlife such as deer, pheasants, kestrels and red kites. In the evening look out for badgers, tawny owls and pipistrelle bats. The woods above the farm are a picture in May and June with bluebells and wild orchids. From the top of the farm on a clear day there are stunning views of Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight. A footpath runs alongside the garden leading directly to a pub in the village of Stoughton,10 minutes walk through scenic woodlands. A 20 minute walk in the opposite direction along a country lane and fields leads to a pub in the village of Walderton.

Further details indoors

In our efforts to protect our environment, air source heat pumps provide underfloor heating throughout the barns, with individual room thermostats for you to control. This is supplemented by wood burning stoves with wood supplied from the farm. Solar heating provides all the hot water and a rainwater harvester provides water for the washing machine and flushing the loos.

“Excellent Property for a Special Celebration”

Reviewed 15 Jun 2014

We celebrated the occasion of our Ruby Wedding Anniversary at the Granary and had groups of friends coming down in "shifts". The en suite accommodation was excellent for this and the facilities for large group dining absolutely fantastic. The Huxham family could not have been kinder and added to the enjoyment of our stay. The whole experience of the Granary stay created memories that will be with my husband and I for many years to come. We have already booked the Cart Shed for next year!!

“Far from the Maddening Crowd”

Reviewed 28 Mar 2014

I think this is one of the best places I have stayed at. It is very much in the countryside, surrounded by beautiful fields and woodland and I have stayed at some wonderful places. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, well equipped and very spacious. Everything about it was just perfect. The owners were very helpful and kind and we had a very nice welcome pack on arrival which included a homemade sponge and wine and eggs. I would love to stay here again as I think it was the perfect retreat. I would highly recommend it.

“Spacious, warm and very comfortable accommodation - just perfect!”

Reviewed 8 Apr 2013

First of all I must apologies for writing my review so late. My husband and I have been traveling for three months and it has been on my mind to write this well deserved review. We booked Pitlands Farm (The Granary) for a family pre Christmas get-together 2013. My husband & I live in Thailand most of the year and wanted to choose a place that was spacious, warm and would comfortably accommodate us all. Pitlands Farm was that and more. Beautifully renovated and oozing with character ‘The Granary’ was a pleasure to simply hang out in. Surrounded by fields and county lanes and yet only a 20 min car ride to the quaint historic market town of Chichester and great for our Xmas shopping! Jenny & Philip were lovely hosts and are only a ‘stones throw away’ if we needed any advice or help. The barn has everything you need, a large kitchen, washing machine & dishwasher. Three beautifully furnished bedrooms, all with en-suits and lush towels. A huge dining table (great for our Xmas dinner) and four couches to chill out on (one being a bed settee) surrounding the wood-burner and in-front of a large TV. As it was cold outside we enjoyed keeping the wood burner going (Jenny and Philip kindly supplied the logs) . . . not that we really needed it as the barn warms up lovely from the under floor heating. Thank you Jenny & Philip for making us feel so welcome and for allowing us to stay in your beautiful country barn. We loved it and we would certainly recommend it and we hope to be back if you’ll have us : )
