Description

The Jetty:

A luxury Holiday Home situated at Mudeford, Christchurch on Sandhills Holiday Park. The views of the harbour from the lounge and decking are amazing and ever changing, and the sandy beach is but a short level walk away.

The Jetty is fully equipped for a truly relaxing holiday - open plan living and dining with all necessary kitchen equipment, including dishwasher! The lounge has a flat screen smart TV and there is also free Wi-Fi.

Two bedrooms, family shower room with an ensuite shower room to the master bedroom. Bed linen and bathroom towels are included, however, please bring your own beach / pool towels.

Wrap around glassed decking area with table and chairs.

Parking is adjacent to the property

Dogs welcome.

Sandhills Park is a fairly small boutique site, which boasts an outdoor heated pool, small gym, lounge and bar. Wi-fi is provided free in both the clubhouse and property.

Mudeford & Christchurch:

Christchurch was a renowned smuggling town and The Jetty is just a short walk from the historic Mudeford Quay where in 1784 smugglers skirmished with Customs and Excise officers. So kids bring those cutlasses, eye patches and skull and crossbones, oh and a parrot if you have one!

It is still a working quay today with fishing boats venturing out most days so why not say hello to Pete on boat Deja Vu (SU21) and see how his day has been. If you fancy testing your skills out and bringing the catch home yourself pleasure fishing trips are available directly from the quay, or we can help you organise in advance. There are many pleasure trips to be had or if you fancy a thrill then why not hang on to your seats on the Bay Blast rib ride.

The Quay is also famous for its crabbing from the quayside (crabbers quay!) and has a children's play park, fish stall, cafe, The Haven House Inn and a large green area which is perfect for picnics, ball games and kite flying. You can catch the ferry to Hengistbury Head directly from the Quay and visit its fantastic beaches and beach huts.

Christchurch harbour is a great place for water sports from windsurfing to sailing and the Highcliffe sailing club is based on the Quay. There is also an active RNLI lifeboat station which practices launching weekly so you are almost bound to see their rather unusual lifeboat launch and recovery system in action!

If walking or bird watching is your thing then you can do both without even getting in the car. Within an easy stroll you will find a nature reserve on the cliff top adjacent to Highcliffe Castle. If you fancy a little longer out then why not try the circular walk through Stanpit Marshes and on to Christchurch for a spot of lunch. Then take the Tuckton ferry from outside the Captains Club to cross the river, or walk over Tuckton bridge a little further on if the ferry is not running, and head across more picturesque marshes to the back of Hengistbury Head. From there you can skirt the inside shoreline, head up and over the top or use the beach as your route back to the beach huts and ferry home at the tip of the Head. Who knows, the Haven House Inn may tempt you with a thirst quencher before heading back to the luxuries of the chalet.

Down at Avon beach, there is a café/restaurant, the Noisy Lobster, and kiosks serving fish and chips, coffee and ice cream. There is a shop selling anything from local/national papers to clothes and holiday souvenirs and even a bakery on site.

If you head out in the car then the walks available to you are endless with The New Forest on your doorstep and The Purbecks within easy reach. Easily missed and of particular note is the area around Keyhaven and Lymington and, in particular, the sea wall walk past the now disused salt works and the spit and Hurst Castle, which in itself is worth entry but make sure you have a few hours to spare.

Historically sailing and fishing are all part of the local heritage with such famous local sailing clubs as Christchurch and Lymington to hand. More recently wind and kite surfing have become extremely popular along with kayaking and paddle boarding. Don't worry if you have never tried any of these or do not have any equipment as Shore Sports base themselves in the harbour and are more than happy to help out.

The Dorset region:

Christchurch - the sign says 'Where Time is Pleasant' and it's right. From the lively Monday market to the great shops and restaurants along the high street it is a great coastal town. It is a short trip in the car or by the Ferry that leaves from Mudeford Quay.

The New Forest - a National Park situated on the south coast of England. The landscape is a mix of heathland, grassland, bogs and woods.

Bournemouth - the famous seaside resort with miles of beaches, loads of restaurants, bars, clubs and great shopping.

Other Attractions - Alice in Wonderland maze Theme Park, Serendipity Sams, Go Ape at Moors Valley, TowerPark with its Multiplex Bowling and Splashdown Indoor Water Park to list just a few.

“Fabulous holiday home, pet friendly, sea views, 2 minutes from the beach”

Reviewed 29 Dec 2021

The Jetty is set back in the second row on Sandhills holiday park with views over Christchurch bay. It’s a two minute walk to Avon beach, where you can eat at a couple of cafe’s, drink at the Haven pub, or the Nelson tavern, and enjoy fine dining at either the “Noisy Lobster “ or the “Jetty” restaurant if you want to. There are also more cafe’s in walking distance further back inland. But the real beauty of this break is in the mobile home named the Jetty. With it’s leather reclining sofa, it’s leather recliner looking out over Christchurch bay, the king size bed, the dishwasher, WiFi, , along with a beautifully kitted out home, makes this a great place to stay. We didn’t explore the site so much, nor use the wrap around decking as it was December, but it’s all there if you want. All this, accompanied by great staff from Mudlife, makes a great holiday.

“Great holiday with great views”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2021

The location was great and the Jetty was in a superb location for the beach and also for visiting the surrounding area.. Everything we needed in the Jetty was there for us. i was a little concerned in the middle of our holiday when next to where we was staying the site decided to get the local tree surgeon in to start to dismantle a very tall tree, at NO point was we advised this was going to happen and i felt it was a health and safety issue so i felt we was forced out of the property and therefore we decided to go out for some 5 hours. When we returned the tree surgeon had totaly blocked off the road to where we had to get to and this road is a one way system . When i asked how long they would be i was told 30 or 40 minutes , really they could not be bothered. My wife decided to do a film of what they were doing as we felt it was not safe. i then went up to complain at the booking in office where Dianne the manager said she would do what she could, this was not good enough until i raised a point about health and safety and should you be cutting trees down in June ? what about the birdies nesting in the trees . Then it stopped. We then sent the video to the people who are there to help you out if you have a problem, their reply was " THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND ALSO WE HAVE CARAVANS COMING AND GOING ALL THE TIME " It does'nt say this on the web site . I did ask for a days rental back because i did feel we was forced out for the day . I am still waiting . i would have recomended this to some of my friends but because of the tree surgeons and caravans coming and going all the time i wouldnt recomend it. Sorry. i look forward to a reply i may get from this review.

Response from the manager Thank you for your review and pleased that you liked The Jetty itself. I am sorry that your holiday was disturbed by the tree surgeons and that you felt as though the park management fell short in terms of your concerns and something that has been raised with them.

I’ve been visiting Sandhills for most of my life and love the place. We always try to get down there at least once a year and I think we’ve found our new favourite place to stay. We found The Jetty to be lovely and clean and kitted out with everything you might need. It’s ideally situated one row back from the front with a great view of the harbour.
