“Not as good as we hoped”
The location for this rental is peaceful and is surrounded by beautiful woodland. The house is quite spacious for 2 and certainly adequate for 6, although watching the TV on the small settee would be tricky for everyone.The facilities are OK with a downstairs shower (blocked when we used it first) and a bath upstairs which has a severely sloping ceiling making getting in and out difficult. The kitchen/dining area is good although the PVC tablecloth was ripped in several places. There is lots of crockery, glasses, mugs etc as well as a good dishwasher. The field outside the front door never got any sun as it was hidden by the trees(probably OK in the height of summer) but the 3 plastic recliners had no cushions. Our disappointment was the attitude of the owner. She had emailed to say that we could pay 30€ for bedding and towels an extortionate amount for the rough sheets, the uncovered duvet, the small, rough and inadequate towels and the one very old tea towel. On our last morning we said we wanted to leave at 9h,which we did, as I had understood from our first conversation that we were fully paid up. As the owner had not arrived I was surprised then to be told I owed 67.80€ for the sheets etc, local taxes and electricity. My questions: 1. Why is the local tax not just included in the price and why did we have no warning. 2. The charge for electricity seems very high considering although I am guessing as to what it is because having asked for a detailed invoice I have not got one yet. Whenever I have rented a house before the sum paid in advance covers the cost of renting in full. We do not expect to be hit with a charge of more than 10% extra.
