Description from owner

Description

Old stone house and guest cottage ** swimming pool, large garden, privacy, greenery, peace ** four terraces ** two kitchens, **two lounges, ** landscape of pines and cypresses, rolling hills and distant mountains ** ten minutes' walk to a spectacular seaview and descent down a man made path to a wild beach below. ***

The property consists of two buildings, semi-attached at a right angle: the three-storey main house facing SSE and a one storey cottage facing WSW. The main house, accessed at the first floor level, accommodates six persons in three bedrooms and two bathrooms located on the first and second floors. An open living room and kitchen/dining area is on the first floor. The ground floor level is a large open space appointed as an additional summer kitchen/dining area. It also houses a maid's room, a toilet and the laundry facility. The interior has been decorated in traditional style, with much use of the original furniture, with the exception of the kitchen and the bathrooms, which are appointed according to contemporary quality standards. The one-storey side building called The Guest House, is an attractive open-plan, split-level space with a high ceiling and plenty of light. The upper level area with its bathroom and walk-in closet is for sleeping, while the lower level serves as a living room.A patch of green separates the main house and the Guest House from the stone-paved pergola-covered terrace with a stone-built barbecue, which is the preferred summer dining area. It runs parallel to the swimming pool, which is surrounded by stone-paved terraces on two sides and flanked by a separate wood flooring sun deck offering plenty of extra space for sun bathing.Apart from the dining area and the poolside terraces there are two more terraces for those seeking a quiet corner only for themselves. The inner and the outer gardens cover some 3.000 square yards partially planted to orchard (orange, prune, fig, apple, quince, pomegranate and some vines) and with a conspicuous presence of sturdy walnuts, bay and oak trees. LUCIVANA's current owners are the descendants of the original owners who had built the house at the beginning of 19th century. After an extensive renovation ten years ago, it was occupied by the family of a Western diplomat serving in Croatia. The house has that feel of a "home away from home", sought after by discerning travellers, who are looking for an authentic holiday experience and wish to capture the "spirit of place".LUCIVANA is suitable for families and groups of friends looking for a restful holiday in unpoluted air, yet only 25 minutes' drive from Dubrovnik, Croatia's jewel attracation. It is equally close to two entirely different worlds existing just across the border, in Bosnia and in Montenegro.A fifteen minutes' walk from the house (or a couple of minutes' drive) will take you to the edge of the spectacular Konavle cliffs offering a breathtaking view of the open sea and of the pebble beach below reached by a safe man-made path. A horse farm in the village offers possibilities of horseback riding through the neighbouring countryside.Although the house is located in the middle of the village, barely 200 m from a bus stop for the Dubrovnik and Cavtat bus lines, it is recommended to have a car as the food shops are available at a distance of about four kms.

Getting around

Eating out in Konavle & Cavtat The most popular places closer to the house are Konavoski Dvori, Monkovic and Koraceva Kuca. Cavtat is a place for a swim, or to see the sights, (in early evening a walk around the promontory offers wonderful panoramic views of Dubrovnik and the resorts around the large open bay...) or for an evening meal. The restaurants are all within a couple of hundred yards from each other: from KOLONA at the very entrance to the waterfront, to LEUT (the best and the most expensive) to BUGENVILA (innovative & fusion cuisine) to GALIJA under the pines by the Franciscan church. For Dubrovnik please consult visitdubrovnik and tzdubrovnik

Response from the owner So pleased you have finally made it to Dubrovnik after two and a half years of wait and twice postponed departure. Thank you for reading and following my tips for the better enjoyment of the house. There is nothing like sleeping with windows wide open, with night breezes coming from the sea entering your space through the slats of wooden shutters.. So much healthier than keeping windows shut, breathing in stale air. True wellness. Sincerely, Lucy

Response from the owner Dear Fea, Your poetic words describing the experience of your stay at the Lucivana is a delight to read. It was a pleasure to have you as a guest, to look at familiar scenery through your eyes and to discover details which we do not notice anymore through our own eyes. Mornings in May and early June are particularly enchanting with all the perfumes of the many blooms that float in the air. I am so glad that both generations of your family group were each able to find their own favourite spots inside and outside the compound.

Response from the owner Hello Mary, thank you so much for your comments on the Villa Lucivana, after your recent holiday with us. It is such a lovely thing to hear that "the house quickly felt like home". That is exactly what we aim to offer to our guests in our family home, and I am ever so pleased to realise that, in your experience, we have achieved that aim. Wishing you and your family good time and enjoyment in what remains of this hot summer, sincerely, Lucy

Response from the owner Dear Lise, Thank you for your words of praise about your holiday at our old family home. I have been quite concerned that your initial frequent trips to the hospital with the two babies’ might have finished by spoiling the fun for most of you, and I am very glad to hear that, in the end, you have all had a good time. I did try to put myself in the shoes of a Grandma with three tiny tots to accommodate and make happy, and I am so pleased to hear that you have had all you needed. About the insect related problems in the guest house: I have contacted the guests who were there before you, and the two sets of guests that have slept there after you, and none of them had any kind of trauma with insect-bites. Of course, we all know that insects live happily where where there is plant life, and water, to boot. Eating under the pergola and close to the pool, inevitably invites flying pests. Some people are more sensitive than others. My dermatologist has suggested that the rash and the itch could have been caused by a specific dermatological situation, since the problem presented itself only in the second week of your stay. The mosquito nets have been mounted on all windows that do not require frequent opening and closing of outside shutters, which unhinges the nets from their frames. Which is why we supply anti-mosquito tablets for the upstairs bedrooms. All I can additionally say on the subject is that I will certainly look for new products for pest control and I’ll study more about insect bites. With best wishes, Lucy
