The perfect setting for a romantic retreat where you can relax and unwind in this wonderful part of the country, as featured in The Guardian 'Five best ... forest cottages'.

The Granary in the beautiful Forest of Dean between the River Wye and River Seven, has been converted, retaining its original 18th century charm, into a beautiful self-contained romantic getaway. The balcony with its private hot tub benefits from 180' views of open country side and is west facing. You can take long relaxing walks in the forest right from the back door, or perhaps take part in more energetic activities such as horse riding, canoeing or mountain biking; just some of the opportunities available in this popular part of Gloucestershire an area of outstanding Natural Beauty. The hot tub is private and is available through out the year.

An ideal retreat for a romantic break. Perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries or just an opportunity to get away from it all. The owners go out of their way to make your stay special.

Maybe you are attending a wedding venue close by and need somewhere to stay. We are ideally located for weddings or functions held at Speech House, Clearwell Castle, Wilton Court, Glewstone Court and many others. Do get in touch and we can help you with this. Make a holiday out of it and prolong your stay!

Flowers, gifts and surprises for your partner can all be arranged when booking.

We can provide you with an evening meal ready for you when you arrive. Particularly if you are coming straight from work and arriving late. All details on the booking form.

Getting around

We recommend our guests have a car as the public transport is fairly limited. However, we do have a reliable taxi service we recommend. The nearest train station is in Lydney, about 10 miles away. The nearest shops about 1.5 to 2 miles away. 2 pubs can be walked to across the fields. And of course, the walks are amazing way to see the wonderful sites of the Forest of Dean.

Interaction with guest

We are available to help through out your stay and nothing is too much trouble. We will leave you alone to enjoy your break but are on hand should you need us. We will meet you at the property to hand over the keys and show you round to make sure that everything is as you expected. Our approach is friendly and welcoming coupled with respect for your privacy. There is information in the property which outlines things to do, where to go, including personalised maps, as well as details about the property and its history. We also provide an OS map to your walks to make sure you don't get lost; Celebration extras such as cakes, balloons, flowers etc. available. Details and prices will be provided on confirmation of booking.

“The Perfect Retreat”

“The Granary, English Bicknor”

Not a nice place to stay, hot tub not working, offered another to use which had black scum lines on it, ceiling full of cobwebs, piles of books by the side of the bed that were thick with dust, something running around in the walls and scratching through the night, hosts already know of this, unhelpful hosts that live on site. Spoilt what should have been a pleasurable weekend away, our trip was cut short because of the disappointment with the place. Charge a £35 cleaning fee to stay in a dirty place. Worst place we have ever stayed.

Response from the owner This guest was requested to leave unfortunately. She knew beforehand that storm Eira had destroyed the hottub lid making it impossible to keep warm. She was asked if she wanted to postpone, cancel or come anyway and use the hottub from our other property. She decided to do the latter but was determined to find fault wherever she could. She has sadly grossly exaggerated her dust claims to suit. We did everything we could to help them but they were so rude we had to ask them to go. We have never had to do this before; all our guests have always reviewed on Airbnb, how clean and lovely the place is. We believe these guests were not happy when they arrived and it just got worse as time went on. We really don't like our guests to be unhappy and feel sad that this was the case for them.

“Wet, windy and perfect”
