Description from owner

Description

A cozy cottage in the middle of the old village of Bridford. This is a delightful place to take a break, with an open fire in the living room and a woodburner in the kitchen-diner. The main bedroom has an en-suite shower room and there is another larger bathroom too. The kitchen is fully equipped with all modern facilities.

There are wonderful views from the cottage and lovely walks right from the doorstep. The traditional village pub is only a short stroll away, and there are a host of excellent pubs and restaurants in the neighbouring villages.

The local scenery is spectacular! There is fabulous walking in the area and lots of beautiful towns and villages to visit within easy reach.

“Lovely cottage in beautiful Bridford”

“Run down cottage in pretty village”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2020

While this cottage had some redeeming features (2 comfortable sized bedrooms and bathrooms, nice beds, bed linen, a well-equipped kitchen, it’s a really run down cottage and the photos on the website hide this well. I would even go so far as to say it’s a health hazard (a radiator falling off the wall, crumbling walls in the living room and holes in the back door that would let in a significant cold air during winter. We were also dismayed to find that the washing machine had a broken handle and was out of use (not good with 2 little ones). Our biggest disappointment was that it wasn’t clearly stated that there was no WiFi or even phone reception in this cottage. This made it very hard to plan our activities each day (as pre-booking for everything is expected now). The host, Andy however was very attentive to our needs. And sent us someone to collect and do our laundry.

Response from the owner Thanks for this. Sorry you had a couple of issues. At that time, we didn't have WiFi at the cottage at that time although we do now, of course. I was surprised you felt so strongly that this should have been the main thing we pointed out in "great big letters" on the listing as you suggested as it is not usual to talk about things that aren't in a property in the web listing. And, it's a pity you couldn't open the washing machine door when you arrived and had to wait a few days for the repair. Again, I was surprised you were so angry at not being able to do washing on the day of your arrival (it's the first time anyone has ever needed to do wash there clothes on arrival as far as I know) but I was pleased I was able to get the laundry washed and ironed on your behalf from our cleaning team. In fact, it probably helped you, because there was so much laundry for just the three of you , I imagine you would have spent the entire trip doing the ironing if you had done it yourself. Note there are no radiators in the cottage (there are electric storage heaters, none of which hang off the wall dangerously) and there are solid oak doors at front and rear. More importantly, it's good that you enjoyed the cottage and the surrounding area and didn't let these things trouble you in the way you felt they would when we spoke. Thanks. Andy
