Description
Podi Gedara is a beautiful, tropical, unique place. It is perfect for singles or couples. It consists of a luxurious one bedroom apartment located directly adjacent the sea with its own natural, safe swimming pool directly in front of it and beaches wrapping around on both sides. Many sections of the southern coast of Sri Lanka are too rough for safe swimming however the olympic size, natural pool located directly in front of Podi Gedara allows swimmers to swim and lap for most of the year. Snorkelling, beach fishing and surfing can also enjoyed directly in front of the apartment.
There are no residences on either side of the terrace and only one apartment above so it is completely private and undeveloped yet only a short distance to some of the best cafes and restaurants in the south. Two of these cafes and restaurants are within walking distance of Podi Gedara.
Daily Life at Podi Gedara
Podi Gedara is one of kind. It is rare to find a place where you can watch an azure blue kingfisher perched on a bough only two metres from the window, a stilt fisherman plying his bamboo rod or the surfers catching the break directly in front of the house. Podi Gedara's kitchen shutters open directly onto this scene and the large adjoining stone paved terrace provides you with the perfect setting where you can watch these wonderful events from the sunlounges,dining table or, alternatively, take a more active role and swim in the sea itself.
The coast in both directions of Podi Gedara offers exciting destination choices. Within half an hours drive you can head to Weligama
to see the hand painted fishing boats, roadside fish market or the unique stilt fishermen. Explore the many Buddhist temples
including Yatagala which is at least 2,000 years old and lies hidden amongst a granite boulder outcrop above the surrounding rice
paddies. Visit a coastal tea or cinnamon plantation and luxuriate with a decadent lunch overlooking the local winding river or surf
the popular breaks which are 'just down the road' from Podi Gedara.
If you are a 'foodie,' Podi Gedara is a great place to be as it is central to the best cafes and restaurants in the south. You can even walk along the beach from the apartment to several good cafes and restaurants but you will never take longer then 10 minutes by tuk tuk to get to any of the other good food /drinking options available in the region. Podi Gedara is the perfect base to explore the best assets of southern Sri Lanka. Our sister property, EKA is less than 2 kilometres down the road and we offer one of the best breakfast/brunches in town. So if you feel like a luscious breakfast or light lunch, just let us know or pop in.
