Description

Set in an acre and a half of lush tropical gardens with a large infinity edge swimming pool, overlooking coloured paddy fields. The Garden House is a haven of hospitality in this little known part of Southern Sri Lanka. It is within easy reach of the walled city of Galle, now listed as a world's heritage site and close to the glorious beaches of the south coast. The 1870s, planter's house has been carefully renovated and restored recently to provide a welcoming retreat which is luxurious yet informal. The house was awarded the 2008 first place for “Personal house in Sri Lanka”
The Garden House's four en suite double rooms and separate garden cottage are designed to combine style with comfort. Balconies and terraces offer extensive views and each room is furnished with a mix of antique and individual pieces including king seize four poster beds and overhead fans. Floors are of cool, polished cement or original Jack wood boards. High vaulted ceilings give a sense of space. Luxurious en suite bathrooms are furnished to a high standard with powerful showers and plentiful hot water.
The emphasis is on relaxation with discrete but attentive service. The whole house can be rented as a private villa or the rooms and the garden cottage can be booked on an individual basis. The garden house is ideal for a family get together, a group of friends or any special events. Everything can be arranged to make your stay perfect, what ever the occasion.
The large, infinity pool sits alongside paddy fields. Swim or laze in the shade of the trees and listen to the birds. Enjoy a drink, have lunch or just do nothing. There are plenty of quiet corners in the garden, in which to hide away.
You can see plenty of birds like parakeets, storks, peacocks, egrets, kingfishers, paradise flycatchers, orioles, woodpeckers, hornbills, cranes, and herons just to mention a few. In the early mornings, and late afternoons, monkeys are roaming around in the tree tops in the nearby jungle and in the garden. Watch the lizards and mongooses forage under the high coconut palms or go for a stroll in the small spice garden.
The Garden House honours the ecological code of 'minimal impact' through sound waste management practices and use of local resources. As part of its social responsibility the Garden House is committed to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community.
The house comes fully staffed with experienced, English speaking housekeeper, cook and outdoor staff. A full laundry service is available. Meals and drinks can be taken in the shade of the large, south facing veranda overlooking the gardens and paddy fields. Locally caught seafood with tropical fruits and vegetables are the ingredients of delicious and imaginative menus that change daily. Special diets can be catered for - just tell us what your requirements are and we will be pleased to adapt menus accordingly.
The Garden House is located in the unspoiled village of Ginigalla approximately ten kilometres outside Galle. The beaches of the Indian Ocean are just a ten minute drive away and the nearby airport of Koggala provides a regular air taxi service to and from Colombo. Transport can be provided from any point of arrival.

“The Garden House”

We were a family of 10 persons and this house was perfect for our vacation. We found the tranquillity we needed after a tour around Sri Lanka in the first week. Also the fantastic beauty both in the house and particularly in the garden breathtaking. There is a lot of wildlife in the garden like reptiles, birds and small mammals. We have nevet tried to wake up to the cries of a peacock in a nearby tree. On top of this there is a staff of helpful, smiling people that take care of everything. The food was excellent too. It's easy to get around. There is a tuk tuk "station" nearby and two local busses pass the house so it is easy to get to Galle or to the beach. We will for certain go back to this place when we return to Sri Lanka.

“The place you don't want to leave.”

A wonderfull place with excellent service. Both house and garden is designed with such a sense of beauty, and we spent surpisingly much time inside the gate, exploring, enjoying the pool, gazing empty minded the rice paddies below from the shadow on the terasse. We also had the oportunity to learn Sri Lankan cooking from the chef.
