Description from owner

Description

Downe Cottages provide a rare combination of private luxury cottages with an excellent leisure facility attached (spacious gym and spa plus a reading room available from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. each day) located in the heart of the North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Whatever the weather it is possible to thoroughly enjoy your visit to North Devon with the combination of a warm and spacious cottage and the extensive leisure facilities.

A short break in Vine gives the perfect romantic break. Vine looks east out over the rockery to the lily pond and to the coast beyond across rolling countryside. A beautifully romantic hideaway.

This cottage is within part of a two storey 'L' shaped barn built after the Napoleanonic Wars. It opens out onto a charming inner courtyard area with garden table and chairs which is a beautiful sun trap.

The open plan living, dining and kitchen area is on the ground floor and has two French windows; one looking east that opens onto the rockery with the lily pool beyond and one looking south that opens into the inner courtyard. The living area is very comfortable with a 2-seater sofa, arm chair, log burner digital television and D.V.D player. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer/dryer. The dining area has an antique pine table and four dining chairs.

The first floor open plan bedroom has French windows looking out over a lovely rockery, lily pool and across rolling countryside. It has a 4'6' double bed and single bed, en-suite shower room, two bedside tables, two chests of drawers, fitted wardrobe and a three quarters length mirror.

• Central heating in all rooms

• Communal gardens

• Includes all consumables

• Garage parking

• Bathrobes and slippers provided for adult guests

Gym & Spa Facilities at Done

The Gym

Our gym is available to guests aged over sixteen and is open from 6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. each day during their stay.

The gym is beautifully located in the Atlantic Room and has views across fields out to Hartland Point and Lundy Island beyond. (Lundy Island is where the Atlantic meets the Bristol Channel.)

The gym is spacious, light and airy and equipped with aerobic equipment, free weights, an ab trainer, an exercise bench and exercise mats.

All of the aerobic equipment is either Life Fitness equipment

(including a treadmill, a cross trainer, a stepper, an upright cycle and a recumbent cycle) or Concept 11 equipment (a rower).

The gym is accessed through the Reading Room in the Conservatory. There is a raised area here overlooking the gym equipment with a seating for the less energetic to sit and admire their dynamic partners!

The Atlantic Room also houses a library and dvd collection for our guests to use.

French windows from the Gym lead out to a raised patio area with tables and chairs looking out to Lundy Island - another opportunity to enjoy the wonderful surroundings.

The Spa

The Spa consists of a spa bath (with seats for eight adults), a steam room (with seats for seven adults) and a sauna.

The Spa is open from 6.a.m. to10 p.m. each evening (the spa bath is available from 6 p.m.) .

Gym Sweat Towels and Bath Towels for the Spa are provided and the cost of both Gym and Spa are included in the cottage rental.

Our home from home cottages provides lovely accommodation for a relaxing break throughout the year.

Getting around

A car is highly recommended for visitors to Downe. It makes everything so much easier particularly utilizing the variety of restaurants in the area. Having said that we regularly get visitors who park their car in the garage on arrival and next use their car on the day of departure. We do have visitors stay with us who come without a car and we can arrange for them to be collected from Barnstaple Station if they travel by rail or from Bideford if they travel by coach

Interaction with guest

When we created Downe Cottages our objective was to provide the holiday accommodation that we would have loved to find. We are very demanding visitors when we stay in hotels or cottages and we insisted that our cottages be: Immaculately clean. Warm whatever the weather. Spacious (a cottage cannot be luxurious without being spacious). Well equipped so that our visitors can come bringing only their clothes, their food and themselves. Beautiful to look at both internally and externally. With well maintained, spacious grounds We welcome visitors to the cottage and we are on hand to resolve any problem that might occur. Everything in our cottages works as it is intended to work.
