Description from owner

Description

The Cafe du Centre used to be a working farm, village shop and cafe. Although many original features remain, we have modernised and reconfigured the space to create a really comfortable holiday home. Downstairs is open plan allowing guests to flow from the bar into the dining/kitchen/lounge and games room. All but one of the bedrooms are upstairs and are comfortable, beamed rooms. The downstairs bedroom has a bathroom adjacent and is opposite one of the toilets.

The courtyard garden is sunny and enclosed by traditional barns. It has a small terrace with table, chairs and parasol and there are is further outdoor furniture for use in the meadow.

There are lovely walks setting of from our house both along the river and in the forests.

Montreuil, Le Touquet and other old towns are within half an hours drive. Large sandy beaches in Berck and Merlimont are also within half and hour's drive. Other local attractions include Agincourt, the Somme Bay and war cemeteries in Etaples and beyond.

Further details

Duvets and pillows are provided and our housekeeper also provides clean bedlinen and towels. Our housekeeper is a phone call away should you have any questions.

Further details indoors

You enter the property into a charming bar/cafe area, with the original bar including traditional bar glasses and the opportunity to stand around the bar for your aperitifs! Off this room is a large playroom which has a table tennis table, board games and children's toys. The bar leads into a large bright dining area and a cosy living area with wood burning stove. As part of the open plan of the ground floor, the modern kitchen is spacious and well equipped - its large island unit lends itself to convivial cooking. Also on the ground floor, we have a double bedroom, particularly suitable for those not liking to go up stairs. This room is very near a modern bathroom and separate toilet. There is an additional modern shower room and second separate toilet also on the ground floor. Up a steep staircase, there is a lovely beamed master bedroom with double bed and own sink unit, a smaller bedroom with 2 single beds and a very large wooden breamed attic room with 2 interlinking spaces each with a double bed. A cot is also available on request.

Further details outdoors

Outside the front of the house, there is off-street parking for at least 3 cars. A door from the open plan dining area leads into a pretty courtyard garden, enclosed by the rustic barns. Leading out from the back of this is our small meadow with a swing set and plenty of opportunity to sunbathe, hold outdoor dinners or even play football! We have an apple and pear tree and you are welcome to pick the fruit when in season. The meadow overlooks a pretty apple orchard.

“Great accommodation. Everything you could want provided.”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2018

We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was very well equipped, internet connection was excellent! Beds very comfy and plenty of room, the family enjoyed the table tennis table and there are plenty of games, books and dvds to use. There are so many places to explore near at hand. We loved the market at Hesdin, the supermarkets there provide everything and we found a couple of super restaurants too. Cottage is a little remote but we did go to the bar in the village a couple of times. It was easy to get to Le Touquet, Amiens and the Somme valley. Altogether excellent accommodation to explore an area not far from home but full of interesting places.

“Family fun in fabulous France”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2014

The size of this house was a real surprise, the photos do not do this great property justice. Large, spacious and comfortable for a relaxing holiday in this quiet rural village. We made very good use of the super kitchen facilities and had a few BBQ's too. Bedrooms large, with comfy beds but could have benefitted from more storage/shelving. We used the cafe area for leisurely breakfasts and enjoyed evening drinks in the bar area. Note, bathrooms are both downstairs but this was not a problem for our party. The ping pong table was used daily and provided lots of laughs and competition! You can use free WIFI across the road at the library if you ask for the code. The surrounding areas however have plenty to offer and we visited many during our two week stay. Hesdin, Arras, Berck, Saint Valery and Le Touquet worth a visit but the pretty walled town of Monteuil Sur Mer was our favourite by far. La Couple is not far if you are interested in history but our teenagers didn't enjoy the museum as much as the planetarium. There is a forest walk nearby and Sylvie's bar is 5 minutes walk from the house. The only reasons we have not rated this lovely property higher is due to the small TV set. We did enjoy sitting watching films together in the evenings after playing board and card games and struggled to see the TV if we are being honest. A guest book would be a nice idea for families to share their tips and experiences, Thanks for some great memories.

“Fabulous, quirky cottage in the middle of the French countryside.”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2014

Beautiful cottage, perfect for a relaxing holiday in the middle of the French countryside. Best of both worlds having supermarkets and lovely restaurants only a 10 min drive away. The owners provide a house book with lots of helpful information to assist with your stay. Also great e-mail communication from the owners. Thank you.

“What a fantastic house for the children they loved it”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2012

There were 4 adults and 4 children in our party and there was plenty of space for us all we never felt on top of each other and three was plenty of equipment for the children to play with and plenty of room for them to run about. The kitchen was very well equiped as was the rest of the house and enough garden furniture for all. We found the area more interesting than expected and the local villages and towns were very pleasant.

“A hidden gem of France”

Reviewed 27 Jan 2012

This cottage has tons of character and charm. Every nook and cranny seems steeped in local history; our children especially enjoyed imagining themselves as cafe owners serving drinks from the bar! The layout of the cottage means that everyone can feel a sense of space, whilst the cosy family room is a great place to relax together in the evenings, when you've finished sipping wine in the courtyard. There is plenty of meadow for children to run around, whilst the adults will enjoy the suntrap courtyard. The area was a real surprise. Being so close to Calais we hadn't expected it to feel quite so French or so pretty! Beautiful, white sandy beaches are a short drive away, and there are some lovely walks straight from the front door. The local rivers are a delight.

“A great place for a country break”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2012

A peaceful farmhouse surrounded by fields and country homes with plenty of indoor space for large families or groups, ideally situated for long walks and bike rides. We very much enjoyed our stay in this property which also has a sunny, well protected courtyard off the kitchen area. Our kids loved watching the sheep in the field backing onto the property and talking to the local farmer. It was a real taste of France !
