Home on the Range is a magnificent retreat in a truly magnificent location: twenty spectacular private acres at the base of Gros Ventre North, aproned by the sweeping grasslands of the historic Walton Ranch. The Tetons rise, high and wild, above the range like giant castles of stone and snow; herds of cattle browse contentedly below.
A long, tree-lined, private drive descends Gros Ventre Butte to the house. A velvety lawn, gardens and stands of aspen and pine surround the home; a wide deck runs along its entire west side, surveying the staggering view. The driveway curves under a porte-cochere and pauses before the home’s front door, a confection of swirling wrought iron and lamp-lit glass that marks the transition from wilderness to domesticity like a gate in a fairy tale.
Inside, all is comfort. Big, open rooms flow into each other, brimming with light: kitchen, dining room, study, great room… massive, tree trunk pillars support peaked, wood ceilings; stone and wood floors feel smooth and cool underfoot, huge picture windows frame the ever-changing panorama outside.
The kitchen is pure pleasure. A six-burner range is set in an arched, tiled alcove; mica pendant lamps shed golden light onto the stone topped island, sink and work space, and a graceful, wood-burning, river rock fireplace, one of many throughout the house, can be seen from the kitchen. The study, with its handsome leather couches, built-in desk, flat screen TV, and substantial fireplace is the place for movies, reading, or work next to the crackling fire.
The great room’s soaring ceiling and sky-high windows make the space seem all light and air, as if one were, in fact, outside. A beautiful, river rock fireplace tethers the big room to the here-and-now, flanked by two different seating areas – while across the space a bar made of the same rounded stones offers a place to pour, taste and converse. A charming, rustic, buck-head chandelier floats above a pair of chocolate, velvet sofas in front of the fire, and big glass doors open to the deck. Steps lead up to a second dining and TV room – the perfect place for family pizza night. A powder room is just off the kitchen.
Home on the Range has five handsome, spacious bedrooms, and spillover sleeping areas as well; it is a Wyoming vacation rental big enough for an extended family to enjoy very comfortably. The master bedroom is unquestionably the grandest of the five, with the Tetons filling every window, and a king size, four-poster bed facing a wood-burning fireplace. An armoire hides a flat screen TV. A roomy private balcony provides a spot to sit, feet up, and breathe in the clean, sage-scented, mountain air; a stairway leads to the hot tub.
The master bath is spacious and serene. A hammered copper soaking tub stands beneath a group of tall, slender windows; there is a separate shower, a water closet, double sinks, and a walk-in closet as well. A wide landing overlooking the Great Room lies between the master bedroom and a smaller guest room – a good spot for children, given its proximity to the master. The landing itself can quickly and easily become another sleeping area with the leather couch unfolded into a queen size bed. With the double doors of both bedrooms open to the landing, the space functions as a large suite of lovely, sunlit rooms.
Another guest room off of the landing has a striking, great camp aesthetic and dark, rich fabrics. It shares a full bath with the “children’s room” next door. Here, a nest-like, twig chandelier hangs above a king bed, and a flat screen TV is mounted upon the wall. On the first floor, a simple, pleasant bedroom with a queen bed and wall-to-wall carpeting waits beside the powder room. It has a closet and a full, private bath.
Home on the Range has a wonderful, light-filled studio apartment, set apart from the rest of the house, with cooking, living and dining areas of its own. There is a king size bed, and a couch in a windowed alcove can be converted to a queen bed. Two closets provide ample storage space. The apartment is a perfect, quiet retreat for grandparents, a nanny, or a couple with a baby - anyone who would appreciate a bit of extra space and privacy.
Home on the Range is a majestic retreat among Wyoming luxury vacation rentals, but, this being Jackson Hole, its broad wood deck is its center of attraction: a walk-out paradise with an infinity of sky above and astonishing mountainscapes all around, an outdoor living space with multiple areas for dining, entertaining, playing, and telling stories. An ingenious table has a fire pit in its center, calling for roasted marshmallows; the hot tub, fitted with speakers, is nearby. A netted trampoline, a wooden playground, and a basketball hoop provide plenty of child-friendly fun.TripAdvisor property ID 1826592...Read more
