“Perfect Family get-away spot!”

Reviewed 6 Mar 2017

Could not have enjoyed our stay at the Farasha House more. I was traveling with my Mom, Dad, Brother and Boyfriend and it had ample space, toilets, showers, and balconies, so we never felt like we were stepping on each other and gave us just the right amount of privacy. It is on the 3rd floor, and is two stories, so if you have mobility issues do keep this is mind (my mom had bad knees, but we managed). Has everything you need in the kitchen to make any meals, a little cafe on site, and the basics are available through the office. The office is super friendly and accommodating. Great pool, and the most stunning views over the Nile. The rooftop is not to be missed. I wish we could have stayed longer, as it is self-catering, we needed a bit of time to get all the things we needed, but Ali, the driver recommended by the host was happy to take us to the shops if we needed. Do keep in mind that it is a bit out of town, so you will need a driver to get around, but you are close to the Valley of the Kings, which made the days a bit shorter when touristing. And the quiet you get from being out of town was just what we needed after a week in the bustling Cairo. Also, the host was excellent. A great "house bible" that gives you all the information you need, from where to eat, to how to tip and more. Super responsive on emails with any questions when they came up too. Very helpful! Cannot wait to come back and stay for longer! Side note of things I wish people told me about Egypt, bring your own alcohol. I know, I know it's a Muslim country, I should have known! The beer is good, but the gin is BAD. You have to find someone that can sell you imported hard liquor, and that is less easy to find. Stock up on duty free at the airport before you go, because you will need it on that roof!

“Super apartment; the perfect self-catering stay in Luxor.”

Reviewed 26 Apr 2014

Our group of four adults stayed for a week in Farasha House, and would have loved to have stayed longer. We had a great holiday and only regretted that we had left the children at home, as they would also have enjoyed use of the large pool, the comfort of the apartment and the wonders of Luxor. We would definitely return. The apartment: Farasha house is really spacious. We were a group of 4 and there was more than enough space for us all. Farasha house overlooks the pool and has lovely views of the incredible Nile from the balconies on both floors (from 2 of the 3 bedrooms and also from the living/dining area) and also from the roof terrace. The roof terrace was my particular favourite spot. There is some lovely shade so I was able to sit up there all day, enjoying the inspirational views and the peace. The apartment is well appointed and tastefully decorated. It is spacious, clean and welcoming. There is an attention to detail that shows that lots of thought and love has been put into each room, creating a homely feel. The kitchen was well equipped. We cooked at home on 5 nights and found everything that we needed. Sarah had arranged for a welcome pack for us, which got us going on the first day. At some point I thought that the apartment would benefit from having an iron and ironing board but then I remembered that I was on holiday; who irons on holiday??!!! I am now very glad that I was saved from myself. There is nothing that any of us could think of that the apartment lacked. There were loads of DVDs and books available for our use (and even some with Dutch and French subtitles for my parents in law, fantastic). The complex: The complex is a series of tasteful, low-rise apartments. The grounds are very well maintained and there is a small café on site, which serves a selection of meals and snacks. Wi-Fi is available from the office, which we loved (you can get on the net if you need to but the temptation to spend the whole holiday just answering that ‘one’ work email is diminished). The office also sells essential supplies, which is really handy. The staff were really friendly. We didn't really need them as everything went smoothly but I am confident that they would have been on hand if we had needed them. There isn’t much in walking distance so guests really need use of a car to get into the centre. This has advantages (more peaceful and relaxed) and disadvantages (less spontaneity). We knew that this was the case before we arrived so didn’t have a problem with this. The area: Despite some media hype proclaiming doom and gloom, we all felt very safe in Luxor. Clearly some tourists had been put off, as fellow travellers were few and far between. We experienced a little ‘encouragement’ from street vendors wanting us to buy their wares, as to be expected, however we never felt intimidated or overwhelmed by this. The hassle factor was mild by any standards, which was particularly surprising (and welcome) given the lack of trade. Ali: We took the recommendation to use the services of Ali, the taxi driver, and were really happy that we did. He was always reliable and full of local knowledge. We felt that his driving was very safe and he was friendly and kind. Given the location of the apartment, Ali helped to make our holiday go smoothly and got us everywhere we needed to go.

“Spacious, well appointed apartment with wonderful Nile views”

Reviewed 10 Mar 2013

We are a retired couple who travelled with an adult son. We spent 12 nights at Farasha House and had a wonderful holiday. The house is large, spacious and well appointed. We spent most evenings on the balcony, drinking wine, whilst the sun went down. The balcony stayed comfortably cool in the day, as it remained shady. The complex itself is immaculately maintained and the staff are very helpful. We spent most of our time sightseeing, with Ali as our driver. He was very accommodating and endlessly cheerful. We know that we paid more than if we had used local taxis, but we felt secure and he had very useful local knowledge and contacts - even in Aswan! Although only 3 of us stayed there, the house would accommodate 6 to 8

“Aesthetically pleasing - inside and out!”

Reviewed 22 Jul 2012

Booking the apartment was straightforward, the owner was easy to contact and always replied to my emails. We received a 'House Bible' prior to our holiday and so felt prepared by the helpful tips and ideas this contained. The pre-arranged pick-up and transfer to the apartment went without a hitch. The apartment itself exceeded our expectations; we are a family of five (three grown-up children aged 17, 20 and 23) and found the apartment to be very spacious, clean, comfortable, air-conditioning was effective, we loved the traditional/local pieces in the apartment and the views across the Nile from the bedrooms/balconies are breathtaking. More panoramic views are availbale from the roof-top area - children used this for circuit walking! The staff at the resort were very friendly and helpful - always lots of them around if needed but left us to approach them and weren't 'pushy'. We felt the environment very relaxing and safe. Only about 15 people at the resort when we were there in July. Rubbish and recycling collection points were discretely available and emptied regularly. The general areas were clean and rubbish-free and staff were preening the garden and maintaining the pool daily. When going out on trips, it was easy to ask the boys at the office to get us a taxi. Ahmed, our driver, spoke good English, pointed out things en route and would always be waiting for us to take us back to the apartment. We found this easy and inexpensive - (approx 100le [£10] return trip to Luxor (approx. 20 mins away by car) for shopping (a necessity for us as not much available on site); 200le (£20) return trip to Valley of the Kings with 3 - 4 hours there. Apparently the white minibuses with black borders can be flagged down and cost a fraction of the price to go in to Luxor but we didn't do this. The office staff were also able to book us onto a hot air balloon trip (£30 each which ncluded pick-up from apartment, a boat trip across the Nile during which we had a cuppa and biscuit/sponge, bus to balloon, approx. 1 hour in air and then return to apartment). We found the heat from the burner quite hot so it was good to have a scarf/throw to protect shoulders! As a base, we found the apartments ideal - close to areas of interest and a quiet haven to return to where we could relax, cool down in the pool and potter around undisturbed. The younger adults in the group were tempted by the snack-type food available and the fresh fruit drinks on offer every afternoon by the poolside were delicious (NOTE: - nothing available on Fridays though). There was a barbeque arranged by staff when we were there and this was great value for money - 60le (£6) per head with plenty of food, soft drinks, tea/coffee etc. There are plans to provide further amenities at the resort eg. shop, eating places, gym as well as develop the next stages of accommodation which will extend the available walking area next to the Nile. Our local walks usually consisted of a visit to the Nubian Craft Village which is government run/funded - everyone happy to see us as we were the first visitors for several weeks we were told! Lovely selection of goods available here - pottery, leather, fabrics, jewellery and all priced. Our family would probably have made use of a table tennis/pool table if either had been available; when they were young a small play area was always appreciated, but no such distractions at the resort yet. Although internet access was available, this was limited and you had to have your own device - no internet cafe facilities. Would strongly recommend the apartment and the amazing local sights nearby (entrance to most attractions worked out at about £8 - £10 per person - student cards can be used to get a 50% discount so worth taking if there are a few!).

“Holiday to remember!”

Reviewed 24 Apr 2012

This apartment is huge - more like a house with everything you need for a comfortable stay and stunning views. The owners are hugely helpful and friendly. It is about a 10 min taxi ride from main part of Luxor which means it's quiet and peaceful. We travelled with our 14 yr old son and he did get a bit bored at the complex but we made up for it with exciting trips like the amazing private felluca on the Nile and hot air ballooning! Food is cheap to eat out and lots of restaurants to choose from. Supermarkets are good too and you need them as the office on site has very limited stock and is expensive. The people who live and own the apartments are so friendly and we enjoyed getting to know them - we even had a communal barbecue on the complex overlooking the nile which was great fun. We cannot recommend enough.
