Amar is a 3 bedroomed apartment located in a quiet friendly village on the outskirts of Luxor, Egypt. Situated on the more peaceful West Bank of Luxor, the flat is perfectly located for easy access to the historic sites such as the Colossi of Memnon, Hatchepsut's Temple, Valley of the Kings and the Mortuary Temples of Ramsess II, Ramsess III and Seti I. A short walk or local microbus (10p) will get you to shops, local restaurants and the Nile ferry where you can be taken to the East Bank of Luxor which is the busier more touristy part of Luxor with Luxor and Karnak temples, the souk and main shopping area, restaurants and hotels. However everything you need can be found in Gezira close by with small local supermarkets, local hotels with rooftop restaurants and local taxis and Tuk Tuks always on hand.

Amar is the top flat in a newly renovated small traditionally built block. It is decorated in the traditional Arabesque style with mashrabeya windows in all rooms and local made Egyptian settees and furnishings. The apartment is decorated in gentle soft creamy shades throughout and has fans in all rooms as well as air-conditioning in the two main front bedrooms (one twin and one double).' Every room has its own balcony overlooking palm trees and banana plantations, and there is TV, fridge, washing machine and cooker. There is a roof area where you can relax and watch the tens of balloons floating over the Theban valley each morning or watch the beautiful Egyptian sunset accompanied to the Call to Prayer each evening.

Managed by husband and wife team Jane and Mahmoud who have managed flat lettings through their own rental business for many years, and who own the other flats in the block,, there are staff in the area with mobile phones at all times. who look after the flats and can help and assist with any queries or problems.

Getting around

In the cooler months you can easily walk to the village via a short cut avoiding the roads. This lovely walk takes you through the fields and into the back of the village close to the local ferry or motor boats to the East Bank. If it's hot then the local microbus service runs along the road at the back of the block. This will take you to the ferry for 10p. Just stick your hand out and it will stop. Alternatively the Tuk Tuks will take you up and down to the village and ferry for a couple of pounds. The drivers will be keen to give you their mobile numbers and will be happy to come to the flat to collect you at any time. There are always Tuk Tuks near the ferry to take you home. You will near to direct them when nearing the lane end.

Interaction with guest

Jane Akshar is also an experienced Egyptologist and has written books relating to things to see and do in Luxor (Hidden Luxor recently updated and includes guidance for those with mobility problems). She lives just round the corner and is only a call away if you would like her to arrange trips or offer advice on what to see. Meet and greet can be arranged for £15.00 and someone will be at the flat to welcome you and hand over keys.
