Description
Seabird Key is a ten acre private island available for rental by the week featuring an architecturally stunning home with gracious porches and multi level decks; a private, sandy beach and beautiful, tropical gardens throughout. Only 5 minutes offshore by boat, this is the Island that has it all....towering coconut palms, chickee huts, swinging hammocks, tropical gardens, and breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico. Seabird Key is the place where Swiss Family Robinson meets Ernest Hemingway! The tropical home is built of cypress and has an old Florida elegance that well suits the Island environment. The interior decor is enhanced with nautical antiques, but the amenities and features are quite up to date. The home comfortably sleeps eight.
Sunbathe on your own private sandy beach with towering coconut palms. No, you're not in Tahiti, but you might think you are! The entire ten-acre island has flowering plants, native trees and over 50 varieties of palms. It's so easy to surrender yourself to the unspoiled nature of this beautiful Island; a sanctuary for nesting pelicans, herons, ibises, cormorants, ospreys, and other avian species.
Boating in the Keys has something to offer everyone! Take the 19' Boston Whaler provided for your exclusive use during your stay and explore the deep blue ocean waters and see dolphins swimming in the wild, or witness living coral reefs in tranquil surrounding waters. Sombrero Reef for snorkeling or scuba diving is a 20 minute boat ride away. Explore the amazing marine life with brilliant colors and a diverse marine eco-system. The boat is equipped with an assortment of masks, fins, snorkels, and life vests. At the end of the day, take a late afternoon sunset cruise....ahhhh!
Kayaking is a favorite past time on Seabird. We provide 4 kayaks, and if you need more, they're easily available. As you paddle around the Island, observe the enchanted world of pristine mangrove forest. Paddling is fun; the slower you go, the more you see. The kids enjoy zipping around the bay pulled by the boat on the towing tube. If sailing is more your speed, take the 14' Hobie Cat out in the bay for an adventure sail. No sign-up, no check-out...just push off and get underway. For a ride on the mainland, Seabird provides two classic style bicycles, affectionately referred to as "conch cruisers." A favorite pass-time of the owners of Seabird is to bike down the old seven mile bridge that leads to the historic Pigeon Key.
Have the fishing trip of your dreams! The Florida Keys beckons millions of dedicated anglers every year who thrill to the chase, and anticipate the rush of catching the fish of a lifetime. Whether you desire game fishing, sport fishing, flats fishing, or capturing a treat for a tasty meal, there's no shortage of opportunity. Fishing guides and captains are available.
Enough adventure? There's always a perfect shady spot on the Island with an empty hammock. Get back to that favorite Hemingway novel or just nod off in the gentle Florida breeze. But wake up in time to toast the sunset atop Seabird's 35' widows walk. The 360 degree ocean view is spectacular!

The owners of Seabird Key are dedicated to complete sustainability with little or no impact to the surrounding environment, while offering beautiful accommodations and most mainland "creature comforts." Many say that the home on Seabird is the most technologically advanced home in the United States. But not for the reasons you might think. Of course we have Wi-Fi. You can sit on the beach checking out your Facebook page while listening to your favorite music through the high quality outdoor speakers. And because of Seabird's Direct TV connection, you'll never miss your favorite game or program. The reason the house is studied by many, is because the home is solar powered, and naturally cooled. The water is supplied by a cistern for rainwater collection. A generator waits on stand-by for emergency use. Green practices at Seabird include recycling and eco-efficient technology whenever possible and it is completely and totally "off the grid." The home on Seabird is naturally cooled with open, wooden louvers and ceiling fans throughout to complement the natural breezes. House rules
We also love our pets, but even our own dog Harley, (a 17 lb. Maltipoo) chases every ibis, egret, pelican, or any other bird on the island. He is a calm dog and is not a hunter, but when he's free on Seabird, he does stir up the birds. We really can't allow our birds to be chased. Dog owners, please understand.
