Description

Underbow, once a coach house, has been lovingly restored, but is still quirky and full of character. Located down a quiet, private lane it has ample private parking for two cars-some can fit three. The house has its own south facing garden (on the first floor) that is not over looked with views across to Dartmoor. Moretonhampstead is on the door step so you can walk 200metres to its shops, cafés and restaurants and if the sun is out the open air swimming pool. The house has everything you could need, a solid wood kitchen with "Rangemaster" cooker, a wood burning stove, full central heating and every bedroom has its very own en-suite, two of these are shower rooms and one bathroom. All the beds have 100% luxury cotton waffle duvets and white fluffy towels. There are four flat screen televisions in the house (some with integrated DVD players) and it has been filled with masses of DVD's, books and games.

“Pleasant clean cottage near to village amenities.”

The cottage was excellent for a week in May, comfortable, and extremely well equipped. There are few cottages of this standard on Dartmoor. Unlike many rentals it was not oversold and did resemble the description. I always take household essentials with me but did not need them this time. Despite being near the village centre, the cottage is on a quiet side track and has a good parking space. The owner was very helpful, reliable, and very quick to respond to queries, despite being in Ethiopia at the time. The garden, on the first floor, was perhaps a slight disappointment but is a well fenced very practical area of grass and a wooden deck, a suntrap without shade for much of the day, and does have nice views out towards Dartmoor. We went on some pleasant walks within a 15-20 minute drive, of which Lustleigh Cleve was both the most visually pleasing and exhausting. Moretonhampstead centre is in close walking distance (5 mins max), is quite visually pleasing, especially around the church, and has a good sized Co-op supermarket, a good pizzeria (Berto's - book in advance to eat in), and a number of pubs that provide meals. Some cafes and restaurants were closed in mid May as still somewhat out of season. The cottage was about a 4 hours non-stop drive from Central London but in high holiday season it would likely take an hour or more longer than that. Driving in the local area involves quite a bit of single track driving, looking out for oncoming lorries in particular, and can provide some excitement. We could not completely rely on using SatNav on our iphones in the area, as there was often no signal, so you may be advised to take a map with you. Our mobile phone connection (O2 iphones) in the cottage was poor but the wi-fi (Plusnet) was good enough on the laptop - but not the phones - and there is a landline if necessary.

“Perfection”

We had such a wonderful stay. The layout of the house allowed us all space and privacy whilst being cosy at the same time. The house was excellently equipped and Kimberly had thought of everything to make our stay so enjoyable. The house was ideally situated, just mere yards from the centre of Moretonhampstead yet it was quiet and peaceful. There were plenty of walks nearby and we enjoyed the outdoor swimming pool in the village. Thank you for such a blissful time.

“Lovely cottage”

Very well equipped with comfy beds. The garden is a sun trap with views to Dartmoor. The location is perfect as it is very quiet but only a very short walk to the town for pubs, cafes and shops.
