Description from owner

Description

Trent Cottage is a renovated comfortable, centrally heated Victorian terraced cottage with WIFI and a courtyard garden.

Situated within easy reach of the river & the town centre it offers a good base for both business and pleasure. It's a comfortable alternative place to stay for weddings etc & dogs are welcome!

The fitted kitchen is fully equipped and has a farmhouse type pine table and chairs that makes it a great place to cook and socialise in.

The small sun room can be used as a work station as it is quiet & the WIFI works well there. The French windows overlook the courtyard garden which is a safe space for a four legged friend.

The lounge has a smart TV with free view and an electric log effect fire.

Upstairs there is one double bedroom with a double bed & one single bed in a smaller bedroom, a bathroom with a bath and shower option and next door to it a small utility room with a mirror & a hairdryer, . So we can comfortably provide sleeping accommodation for three.

The kitchen has a washer-dryer, there is a retractable washing line in the garden & an ironing board, iron & airing space in the utility room.

All towels and bed linen are provided so all you have to do is unpack.

Storage for bikes can be arranged.

The cottage is 2 minutes walk from a large dog friendly park with a car park, café, permanent outside gym equipment, woodland trails , river walks and children's adventure playground. It surrounds a civil war earthwork, the Queen's Sconce. The original site is preserved and accessible to all.

Across from the park is the River Trent with a marina and a pub where food is available.

You can get to the river off Millgate & walk along past the lock to the castle & its gardens finding bars & restaurants en route. There are sometimes concerts in the grounds & you can take a boat trip down the river from there.

Both Albert Street & Victoria Street take you into the centre of Newark in ten minutes on foot Here you can find a great variety of individual shops, restaurants and a historic market square with a continental open market 5 days a week and a specialist market day for antiques and bric-a-brac. We also have a good range of supermarkets in town including Waitrose, Morrisons and Asda where you can leave your car for 2 hours while you explore the town centre.

In Albert Street, about 5 mins walk away, there is a Co-op which sells fresh meat & veg as well as tinned and frozen foods and drinks & is open 'till 10 pm. In the same area there is a cash point and a B&M. In both Albert Street & Victoria Street, which runs parallel to it, there are fish and chip shops and take-away outlets.

Just outside Newark is the famous Eden Hall Day Spa and after a lovely spa day, what better than a meal near the river at the Farndon Boat House.

Newark which is a crossroads in terms of both road & rail links is an ideal stop off for explorers of Central England and history buffs. Famous for its castle where King John died, its perpendicular church, its market place and Georgian Town Hall and its Civil War Centre & Trail, Newark also has an Air Museum out near the showground. A variety of fairs & events are held in the showground throughout the year..

Newark has good road & rail links to historic Lincoln, Southwell and Nottingham and to The Peak District with its stately homes, including Chatsworth the home of the Dukes of Devonshire. Just down the A1 is Grantham, Stamford and Rutland Water. So, it offers a great base for sight seeing.

“Excellent property in Newark”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2017

We stayed over pantomime season in this lovely cottage and were blown away. Much better than any of the pictures shown, clean, dog friendly, cosy and very warm! Plus Chris who was just next door if we needed was friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating. Right next to the park and a 10 minute walk away from the theatre. Would stay here again without hesitation!

“A comfortable cottage in a convenient location.”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2016

We arrived in Newark on a cold and wet November afternoon and were delighted to find the cottage to be to both warm and welcoming. We also received a very friendly and helpful welcome from a lovely lady who was the local key holder. The cottage was well appointed throughout and the whole house ,was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well fitted ,and we were able to self -cater with ease. We particularly liked the use of the rear conservatorywhich even on a winters evening was well heated. The cottage also had a great wi-fi connection. The added benefit of being able to take our dogs to stay was a real bonus. The large park opposite was a great place to walk, and our dogs got plenty of exercise there. We had a great stay in Newark, and were able to explore the area with ease from our base at Trent Cottage, and we certainly hope to return.

Response from the owner Thank you for sending such a positive review. We are so happy you were comfortable in the cottage and were able, together with your dogs, to take advantage of the marvellous Sconce & Devon Park which the Council maintains in such a good condition. It was also nice to hear your appreciation of the help & welcome you received from the local representative who is indeed a gem. It is hoped that her presence gives a sense of security to our guests as she is always ready to help out when required. We hope you will be able to return one day & will look forward to giving you a warm welcome.

“Great cosy & comfortable property, perfect for a short break near Newark”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2016

Good communication before we arrived, property was all ready for us with the heating on. Parking was available on the shared spaces in front of the house. Nearby Coop (5 mins walk) for milk and anything we had forgotten. Lots of cooking utensils and pots/pans and also useful information about the local area in the property guide folder provided. (nice chip shop too on Victoria street - very generous portions of chips!!! We could have ordered two and fed a family of four :) ) Had a lovely family time with our daughter who is at Uni nearby. Lots to do in local area, Newark town centre is just 10-15mins walk away, Cinema and shops....and Sherwood Forest is only 30mins drive for Go Ape or cycle rides. Much more cosy than a hotel room. Easy access to the A46. Perfect for us.
