Description from owner

Description

Spread over an area of .7 2,964 sq km (12.4% of the Lombardy region and almost 1% of the Italian), includes 190 municipalities and is the third province in Lombardy for number of municipalities. The province belongs to three quarters the Po Valley and the rest to the Apennines; the Po and Ticino rivers are the main rivers and lake basins do not exist. Geometric profile looks different, completely flat to the North and West and more moved south, with hills and mountains and peaks up to 1,460 meters with the mount Penice, 1,498 with Summit and 1,724 collection with Monte Lesima. Varied landscape, which offers fine naturalistic spots; as in other provinces in the region, care for environmental conservation has led to the identification of areas subject to protection, of which the most important is undoubtedly affected by Parco lombardo della Valle del Ticino. The provincial coat of arms, granted by Royal Decree, brings together the arms of Pavia, Voghera and Vigevano, Mortara. Pavia's weapon is represented by a white cross on a red field; the coat of arms of Voghera, divided into two camps, bears a crowned Black Eagle with outstretched wings, to testify that Voghera was imperial city under the Marquis of Monferrato in the 14th century, and dei Marchesi Dal Pozzo in the 17th century. To reign instead on Mortara, also imperial city as evidenced by the Eagle depicted on the top of the emblem, were the Sanseverino and Orosco; at the bottom, according to legend, is depicted a deer drinking at a source located at the edge of a large forest, the SILVA PULCHRA, through which passed the Queen Theodelinda, married Agilulf, when from Lomello went to Monza. Vigevano is finally represented by a crenellated castle on a red field.
