Description from owner

Description

In the beautiful Loire Valley, close to Le Mans, a stylish château with a pool and tennis court, plus acres of lawns and woodland to explore.

Heaven for motorsports enthusiasts: a splendid château close to the racing track and museum at Le Mans. Nostalgic photographic prints of ‘24 Heures du Mans’ in its heyday are displayed alongside tapestries and oil paintings at this elegant retreat in the Loire Valley.

Park beside the ornamental fountain in front of the white limestone façade and enjoy the peace afforded by staying on a 500-acre estate. Charming owner Paul and his wife have decorated their home with style and creativity; sink into velvet sofas beneath a chandelier in the sumptuous living room, eat around a mahogany table in the panelled dining room.

You can chat as you cook up a storm in a big, parquet-floored kitchen with an open fire and low-hanging industrial lamps. Upstairs, nine chic double rooms overlooking the park and surrounding meadows offer plenty of space for groups or large families. Sleep in cosy beds covered with furs and sheepskins; soak in beautiful, claw-footed baths. If you tire of lounging luxuriously inside, why not take a dip in the sparkling new pool, play tennis or go wildlife spotting in the woods?

Only 15 minutes from the centre of le Mans, and 4 hours from London by Eurostar, the house sleeps 15 people comfortably inside an estate of 450 acres of beautiful woodland.

“Escape from the Chateau”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2019

There are many charming features of the chateau, wooden floors, comfy beds, and fluffy towels, but the property needed a thoroughly good clean, lots of thick cobwebs and dust, sticky counters in the kitchen and dirty floors, it was very disappointing, no empty cupboard space in the kitchen to put dry food items, we had to empty and wash out some cupboards to make some space, and wash cooking utensils before we could them. The utility room was a dirty smelly room horrible to go into. There was a cordless vacuum but like the other vacuum it was blocked up with dust, we had to empty it just to use it. Even the filter in the tumble dryer was completely full of fluff, the detergent tray in the washing machine black with mould. Nothing had been cleaned ready for the next guests (us) coming in. Storage in the bedrooms is very limited and in some their wasn’t any hanging space, drawers or shelves, just a suitcase stand. In one of the rooms that we were using because it had its own shower room had no wardrobe or hanging rail, and to put one in meant the window was blocked or one side of the bed was not accessible. We had planned a late evening arrival finally getting there around 8:15pm after a long day driving from the U.K. The owners housekeeper meet us, the lights in the kitchen worked but most of the other lights in the house didn’t, by the time that got sorted out there were no shops, restaurants or cafes locally open, everything closed at 9pm, we had to drive 30 mins to Le Mans to get a takeaway pizza. The next day in the daylight we could see the state the place was in, which was disgraceful for paying guests and contacted the owners later. We went to buy food to cook that night and found their was no gas for cooking, it’s bottle gas which had run out and not been checked before our arrival. The tennis court net had so many holes you could go through it rather than over, with a broken deck area and broken glass left lying there, we don’t smoke but even the outdoor ashtray was full of old cigarette ends. The table tennis table had a broken bat and was covered in dirt. The outdoor kitchen area near the pool had no running water and drinks from previous guests still in the fridge. All the out door seating cushions were stained and dirty. The fridge in the kitchen had mould on the shelf and around the door seal. The glass of the oven had fat stains running down the inside and the handle greasy to touch. The list was extensive. The owners, responded to our messages quickly to get the lady who let us in to hook up the gas and offering to get her back to clean but all she did was exactly the specific examples we highlighted with a photo, and there were many, not to deal with the overall problem of thoroughly cleaning the house as it should have been done between one lot of guests leaving and another arriving to put the property back to the condition and look we bought into from their website. It had been photographed well. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned properly in months, even the fire extinguisher in the kitchen was thick with greasy dust. We booked for a month having seen the lovely presentation of the property on the website, expecting a home from home experience the reality is Les Noës Blanches was in desperate need of a really good clean throughout. The “salvage style” antiques of broken mirrors and rough painted furniture add character, the giant cobwebs, piles of dead flies, black mould and overwhelming smell of dust does not! A little flaking paint is character, large cracks in the walls, holes in the floor boards and crumbling plaster is too far. Having back to back renters without proper upkeep and cleaning between groups has taken its toll. We cancelled our friends who were coming straight over to join us on the first day because the house and rooms were too dirty to use, and we didn’t feel it was our responsibility to do that before we even started our holiday. We asked for a refund and said we would leave as it wasn’t up to a acceptable standard for rent, The owners offered to help us find an alternative place at our own cost as they refused to refund us based on their cancellation policy which we feel is related to cancellation before arrival not on the basis the property wasn’t fit for paying guests. We had to clean the kitchen, 2 bedrooms and bathrooms that we needed just to be able to stay. After the 1st week the owners eventually got a professional cleaning company in to clean the whole house, 2 people came for a day and they couldn’t finish it, they came back for another half day to complete the task, they also had to call out the Electrician to fix some lights that didn’t work, the Industiral dishwasher was blocked and had to be removed completely. This was all happening during the time we had paid to be there and were supposed to be having a relaxing holiday. Relaxing it was not! In the end we left 4 days early and went somewhere else at our own cost.

Response from the owner Dear Sharon Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are so disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay at Noës Blanches. We take cleanliness very seriously and your feedback came as a huge shock to us as we had not received any comments quite like yours in the five years that we have been renting the house. As you are aware, we took immediate note of all your feedback, sending the cleaner back in first thing the next day (and each day thereafter) in order to satisfy your requests. When this was not enough, we contacted an external industrial cleaning company at our own expense to visit over two days in order to go over all the cleaning which had already been done twice. We apologise that one of the lights wasn't working as a lightbulb had blown prior to your arrival, which was duly fixed without delay the following morning. With regards to your dinner requirements, being in rural France unfortunately we did advise you in advance that your 8.30pm arrival time would mean that the local supermarket would be closed. Had you requested, we would have been more than happy to do a preliminary shop on your behalf to ensure you had the necessary essentials! Sadly on occasion the gas bottles for the cooker do run out, which is why we have detailed instructions on how to replace them. However our wonderful housekeeper was happy to return within an hour of your comments to hook the new canister up for you. With regards to the utility room, as you will have seen, it is marked as private and usually used by staff as it contains industrial dishwashers for big events, washing machines, industrial sized freezers etc. However we are more than happy for guests to make use of the facilities should they wish and we are sorry that you found it 'smelly' and 'horrible' - we will continue to do our best to keep it in an acceptable condition, as one would expect. We are sorry again that you found the facilities on the grounds disappointing. The tennis net has since been replaced, and entire area including the outdoor table tennis table (with bats replaced) was cleaned again the day after your arrival. As a note, the fridge by the pool is pre-stocked by us as a gift to our guests with a selection of soft drinks and beers as a courtesy and were not left from previous clients as you have suggested. As you are aware, we took immediate action on all your comments, responding kindly and swiftly to each of your emails, texts and phone calls within the hour which came flooding in each day of your stay. We worked tirelessly to meet all of your requests despite your abusive treatment of our staff and your tone with us which was both rude and offensive. We value our lovely employees and guests very highly and strive to create a safe and comfortable working environment while providing our clients with the 5* service that you would expect from this kind of rental. Unfortunately, on this occasion we feel that we let our staff down. Wishing you the very best of luck with your future rentals. Kind regards Tessa
