Description from owner

Description

Casa Aguia is one of two adjoining, self contained houses set in almost 7 hectares of land which is Vale da Cegonha.

There is also a large swimming pool with both a sun terrace and shady pergola beside, which is shared between all guests. There is ample room around the pool area for all guests to enjoy their own space.

The views from the house and all the terraces are truly spectacular.

The house has its own front door and private barbeque terrace. It also has a spacious lounge with comfortable seating for up to 4 adults. There is also a TV/DVD player and satellite TV. The kitchen/diner has a dining table and 4 chairs. 2 further folding dining chairs are also available and a highchair. The kitchen area is fully fitted and has solid wood units with granite worktops. It includes a hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, toaster and electric hand blender.

A further dining table and chairs is outside on the barbeque terrace.

Bedroom 1 has a double bed and a single bed and a full bathroom ensuite which includes a corner bath with shower over plus a washbasin, WC and bidet.

Bedroom 2 has zip and link beds which can be made up as either a large double or 2 singles, whichever you would prefer. A small childs bed or cot can be added to this bedroom.

This bedroom also has a spacious 'wetroom' style shower rooms ensuite, which includes an adjustable height shower, washbasin and WC.

The house comes prepared with all essentials - linen, towels, pool towels, tea towels, washing up liquid, hand soap, toilet rolls, kitchen roll, cling film, aluminium foil.

You will also find tea bags, sugar, coffee (both instant and ground), olive oil, wine vinegar, vegetable oil, a selection of herbs and spices plus salt pepper and a bottle of wine.

PLEASE NOTE: Clothes washing facilities. The washing machine shown in the list of facilities is not located within the house. What we offer here is a complimentary washing service for all guests who stay for 7 nights or more. Guests staying for fewer nights will be charged a small fee just to cover costs.

What makes Casa Aguia special is that when we designed it we wanted to ensure that it was not only spacious and elegant, but that it was also wheelchair friendly. To this end, subtle features were included - wider doors, level thresholds, no steps to negotiate. There is ample space to turn around in the lounge, kitchen/diner and bedroom 2 including the shower room. This also has an open space under the washbasin, 1m space beside the WC and grabrails beside the WC and in the shower area. The kitchen is also wheelchair friendly as it includes an extra lowered work surface and hob both with spaces beneath plus a further space beneath the sink. Most crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are kept in large pull out drawers with space to the side. The oven is set at 50cm from the floor.

We can either provide or hire a number of mobility aids if required. Please ask us for details.

Evenings at Vale da Cegonha are a real treat. As the sun sets behind the hills there is no better place for an alfresco supper washed down with a glass of delicious local wine. Afterwards, you will be treated to a dazzling display of starlight, thanks to our clean clear air. Truly breathtaking!

Vale da Cegonha is the perfect rural retreat where you can just relax and unwind, yet close enough to the nearby town of Ourique (4 miles) which has a good selection of supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants etc to cater for all your needs. Ourique also has excellent road links which also makes Vale da Cegonha an ideal place from which to explore much of southern Portugal.

We want everyone to discover this lovely part of Portugal, regardless of mobility. So our invitation to everyone is to come, relax, explore and enjoy!

Further details

COVID-19

To ensure the safety of our guests extra measures have been put in place.

Cleaning - Apart from regular cleaning, all areas of the house will be sanitised before new guests arrive. This includes all high contact areas such as door handles, light switches, TV remotes, cupboard and drawer handles, as well as microwave and fridge door handles and all chair backs.

Outside - we have introduced strict social distancing between guests from the 2 houses, who all have access to the pool and pool terraces. Both the sun terrace and the shaded terrace have been split into 2 separate areas to ensure that a safe 2 metre space is maintained at all times. There are 2 extra photos showing the divided terraces.

The pool water is continuously filtered and treated with chlorine. This keeps the water clear, but also acts as a disinfectant keeping the water safe for swimming.

It is most important to us to ensure that all our guests feel safe and protected here at Vale da Cegonha.

If further clarification is required we urge everyone to please ask. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns that anyone may have.

Our cottage is also located within the grounds of Vale da Cegonha, so we are on hand should you need us. We will meet you when you arrive and explain everything about the house to you. “Beautiful Setting, Immaculate Accommodation”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2012

We stayed at Vale Cegonha a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back this year. We were driving up from Faro and heading much further into central Portugal. Vale Cegonha made a lovely stop off point on the way. The Location: Close to the small but pretty town of Ourique with a great Pingo Duce supermarket where you can get just about everything you need in the way of provisions. From the town it's just one winding road. In May the storks were nesting on platforms all along the road, we had some great views of them. The house is set back off the road on a dirt track; it has a lovely hilltop position looking over the private land of the home. The House: The building looks traditional, painted blue and white but is quite new. It is split into two halves with two bedrooms in each and an adjoining door if it is one big family or group staying. As we are just a couple we rented half of the house. Each half is beautifully furnished and self - contained. Even with just one half we had two generous double bedrooms one with an en-suite wet room and one with a bathroom. The decoration and fittings throughout are immaculate and tasteful and the kitchen is lovely. We took a peak inside the 'other half' and it was similarly well equipped and fitted out. The Surroundings: Peaceful and beautiful. When we had visited before in October it had been dry and sun-baked (as is the whole area0 but in May it was a riot of wonderful wild flowers, cistus, lavender, mallows and much more. My husband photographs birds and was delighted with what he managed to 'capture' this time. As well as storks, little owls, bee eaters, hoopoe and soaring birds of prey and lots of smaller birds. There is plenty of scope for long walks, a swimming pool and a shady terrace for relaxing. Penny and Greg, who own Vale Cegonha are friendly and helpful at every turn. We had some problems connecting our laptop to the internet and Penny went out of her way to help. A lovely 'welcome pack' awaited us when we arrived (wine, beer, butter, cheese, bread). What a wonderful spot to unwind and a omfortable base for touring! Many thanks!
