Description

Just 300m easy walk to the sand of Widemouth Bay (just one of 8 Blue Flag beaches in Cornwall and dog free in the summer), Tanglin is a light and airy detached non-estate bungalow, perfect for relaxed holidays or as a base for more strenuous activities such as surfing, walking or cycling. It offers the convenience of nearby beach and facilities whilst offering peaceful evenings.

It has a conventional layout with the benefit of a large hallway separating the lounge / diner and separate kitchen at the front of the house from the bedrooms at the back of the house. This layout is perfect for families with younger children as parents won't have to tiptoe around the house once the children are in bed.

The large garden on three sides of the house gives children plenty of space to run around and offers more privacy than the beach as well as being more sheltered and gives the chance to get out of the sun should you wish. The bungalow sits on a plot of approximately 1/4 acre in size and is set back from the road by about 50'

Widemouth Sands (The North Beach at Widemouth Bay) has something for everyone. There is a large sandy area with rocky reefs either side with fascinating rock formations, perfect for rock pooling. The beach has a "no-dog" by-law during the summer months which has obvious advantages for cleanliness and family enjoyment. Both ends of the beach are patrolled by RNLI lifeguards between 10am and 6pm in the summer season and during school holidays.

The convenience of the short level walk to and from the beach is appreciated by everyone who stays at Tanglin. It's so easy to pop back to the house for whatever reason or you can wander back along to the beach in the evening to see if the surf is worth another go. It is just the right distance away from the beach and coast road to still be close to the sea and yet far enough away from other holiday makers and the traffic on the coastal road.

Our strict 'no smoking' and 'no pets' policy mean that you can be assured that you will find no trace of other people's pets. Unless you want to take your pet on holiday with you, why would you want to stay somewhere that could have pets in it every other week of the year?

Coastal paths provide pleasant walks in both directions. There is also a choice of paths inland through woodland towards the restored Bude canal if you tire of the beach.

A local shop just 400m away combined with an award winning free-house pub just 600m away mean that you might not even use the car until it's time to leave!

WiFi internet is provided - current download speed is approximately 25MBps. This works throughout the house though depending on your device it might be slightly slower in the back bedroom.

The low-ceilinged cellar accessed from the rear garden houses a small portable barbecue and beach wind breaks available for guests use. Please note that we do not provide surf boards, just storage space for guests own boards in the cellar.

"Tanglin" is our family holiday home and we enjoy our own holidays there. We do not use an agent but do employ professional cleaners.

Getting around

Car is obviously first choice for arriving and any journeys over a couple of miles from Widemouth. There is a good choice of local pubs and cafes as well as a shop within easy walking distance. As well as the coast path into Bude, there is a choice of inland paths leading to the restored Bude Canal via the Weir Cafe. The canal tow path leads to the harbour in Bude. Public transport is surprisingly good for a small west country coastal village but we would recommend that guests use Google map or similar to evaluate any potential journeys that they are planning on taking. (At the time of writing, the Number 95 buses from Transport for Cornwall are ideal to support walking the South West Coast path between Bude and Padstow)

We email instructions to guests before the stay, this includes access arrangements. We aim to answer any questions as quickly as possible and are keen to help if required but like to leave our guests to enjoy their holiday.
