“A rural paradise Part 2!”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2016

My first review titled 'A Rural Paradise' related to our first visit here in 2014 although I posted the review after our second visit in 2015 hence the errors in my review changing from two to three children! (Sorry about that). This review for our visit in Aug 2015 is much shorter than the first because I would only be repeating myself in saying what a beaufily location and villa it is. Highly recommended if you dont like being in the middle of it all with all you need close by. We moved house this year so couldn't book again this year until now but cannot get 2 weeks together so hoping someone might cancel!!! Just one last thing, when your 4 year old asks for only one thing on her birthday and that is to go back to the 'house in Portugal' then you know it was a hit!

“A rural paradise!”

Reviewed 11 Aug 2015

Client Service: This was our first time booking through Holiday Lettings so I was concerned that dealing direct with the owners of the property could give rise to risk of losing our money or turning up to a property nothing like the pictures. I can honestly say from start to finish my dealings with Lawrence, the owner, have been nothing short of the ideal client experience. The attention to detail at every step of the way from initial questions to returning home was very impressive. Lawrence shows how all owners should do it and I thank him for making our experience all the more enjoyable by covering off every eventuality that could have caused us stress especially when travelling with children. Lawrence provided us with amazing directions from the airport to the villa along with the supermarkets on route so we could stock up on shopping along the way. A booklet of information detailing all you need to know about the villa along with another booklet on the local area. This is a very comprehensive and amazingly helpful guide. It details all you need to know about the village, the town, restaurants he recommends, places of interest etc etc. Lawrence had done a great job with this and we went to many recommended places and restaurants and I can confirm his recommendations were spot on! Property: This place is beautiful. It is excellent condition and very clean. The layout worked perfectly for us with two of our children in one room, ourselves and the baby in another and then my inlaws in the larger suite. All communual areas are more than large enough for the numbers accomodated and you have a choice of verandas to eat during the day allowing you take advantage of the morning sun and the quite mesmorising sunsets. The villa is located above the nearby village allowing views across the beautiful landscape. There is a local farmer who maintains the property with his wife and children living a short walk away. Although he speaks little English he manages to communicate extremely well and follows Lawrences custome service values in being excellent with anything we asked of it (albeit to only to change a lightbulb and help change the gas bottle!). The property is fenced all the way around allowing us to let the children (8 and 2 yrs old) run freely without any concern. The swimming is very clean and kept that way during your stay. Most importantly it has the option of being securely fenced off so you do not have to worry about the children falling in when you are not watching them. The only downside to the property is the steep hill on entrance to the grounds as this would make it difficult for those not fully able bodied to walk up and down easily if they so wished. Location: The real Portugal and untouched by tourists and all that comes with it...... The villa is located approx 10 mins from the nearest town where all the facilities you need are based. Two local supermarkets plus a Lidl (where we got freshly baked bread most days). That said the tiny village where the village is located has more than sufficient facilities with a small shop, bakers, post office, restaurants and amenities if you do not wish to travel into the town. People here are very friendly and live a simple and classic village life. Everyone seems to know everyone, the older generations are seen outside their houses chatting to their friends or in a bar/cafe having a quiet drink together. It is a simple yet beautiful way of life that I am envious of at times! We spent most of our time at the villa because we all loved it there so much we didnt want to go off visiting other places! We were able to have meals and drinks outside every day all day. We would have breakfast at the front of the villa looking out over the village and fields and then lunch and dinner out the back of the villa. We would have some light music playing in the background in one of the prettiest settings I have had the pleasure of staying at. The kids would be running around playing in a very safe and beautiful environment whilst we relaxed, read and drank gin and tonics or wine in the sunshine! Admittedly with three children we didnt get to sit down for long but relaxing it was none the less. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. The owners superb client service and his fabulous villa in a majestic location make it a place not to be missed. If you are looking for lively holiday with buzzing bars and lots going on then this is probably not the place for you. If you want the real portugal way of life on your doorstep, an amazing villa in fantastic condition with the most amazing location for views and weather then this is the place! We will be coming back next year if we can, the kids and rest of the family absolutely loved it.

“Perfectly quiet”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2014

Our holiday was even better than expected. A comfortable and very spacious house and a perfect garden. We liked the views, to Escoural and over the cork oaks. A windy hilltop that made a three weeks summerstay not to hot. Everyone liked the goats, sheeps, cows, turkeys, chicken and dog: it is nearly a farm! Daily walks to Escourals authentic restaurant; unforgettable! This part of the Alentejo is extremely quiet: just countryside and a few villages. Nearly no tourists; an unknown and pleasant experience.

“Very stylish and well equipped villa in a tranquil location”

Reviewed 26 Aug 2013

A lovely modern villa with a very nice pool and gardens and nice views of the surrounding countryside. The pool is in the sun for almost the whole day. The villa is well equipped, with 3 good sized bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (the master bedroom and en suite are very nice indeed). The driving directions from Lisbon were the most complete we've ever had and the welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch. Only a short walk along a quiet lane into the local village, which has 3 or 4 restaurants offering decent local food at very reasonable prices. The caretaker and his wife are on site if anything is needed and are very friendly and helpful. They don't speak English, but we just mimed to each other until we'd worked things out! It's a fairly short (and straightforward) drive to Evora, which is well worth a day trip. Or you can just relax on one of the shaded terraces while the kids play in the pool...
