Description from owner

Description

Our house in Mons is a private retreat for our family and friends, with our collection of paintings, drawings and sculpture, plus a library of art books and DVD's. Although the house has full modern facilities, all of the original 17th. Century Provencale features have been maintained. Parts of the house are 13th. Century and the village itself has remained untouched for centuries, described by the New York times as 'the last unspoilt village in Provence.'

With five storeys, including the atelier, the house has grown over centuries, but has been lovingly restored to provide all modern amenities. Five individual double or twin bedrooms and a further double bedroom on a private mezzanine floor, complement the spacious living areas and a large fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances.

Further details

The house is available for rent all year round. Provence is just as beautiful in any season. All gas and electricity is included in the price and Lydie, the house keeper, will ensure that a full laundered supply of bedding and towels are waiting for you when you arrive.

Lydie will have prepared and cleaned the house and visitors normally do not request cleaning during their stay, but this can be arranged with advance notice. A supply of logs for the large open fire are also included in the price and stored in the atelier.

On enquiry or booking a contract will be sent with full rental details and when completed the booking will be reserved on the web-site.

Further details indoors

Our house is eccentric, to say the least and new visitors spend time finding their way up and down staircases to find rooms that surprise with their own individual character and spaciousness. Five bedrooms have two single beds that can be made into double beds (one a banquette) and the private mezzanine floor over the lounge area has a double sofa bed.

The focal point of the house is the large kitchen with the original Provencale table, now a little rickety, but which with care will last for more years. But the large roof terrace and its spectacular views across the mountains and valleys of Var to the Mediterranean provide the perfect spot to sit, look, relax and sample fine French wine and food with mesmerising views that stretch almost 100km.

Further details outdoors

Our house is a 'maison village.' A Provence town house that extends five storeys from the atelier - where a supply of logs for the large open fire are kept - up to the roof terrace. The streets are too narrow to allow access for cars, but free parking is available below the walls of the remains of the 13th. Century castle, one minute's walk from the front door.

The tiny streets meander through the village and it is a joy to walk to the boulangerie early in the morning to buy fresh croissants as they come out of the oven. Peace, quiet and relaxation is the order of the day, with a walk around the village through tiny streets that have existed unchanged for many centuries. Yes, places like this do still exist.

“Home away from home or too good to be true”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2013

This house is so good I feel it should almost be kept a secret. We loved this house traveling as group of 3freinds, we were spoiled with the authenticity of the house, the generous facilities, and the… More

“Calm and indulgent New Year in Provence”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2012

Spent a week over New Year at this extraordinary house in remote, peaceful and charming village. Being an old house in the village the layout is complex but fascinating and the amenities from TV projected onto chimney-breast to WiFi and warm luxourious bathrooms are first class. Highligth was New year's day breakfast on the balcony/terrace in the sunshine ovelooking the valley down to Cannes and looking across to Corisca. Nothing much was gong on in the village at this time of year except for the great little bakery but the scope for walking is great. Compared to some places we have rented staying here was effortless and we had a very relaxing enjoyable New year's break
